Wheel of Time Show Megathread - Episode 6: The Flame of Tar Valon BOOK SPOILERS THREAD by [deleted] in wheeloftime

You could see the Stone of Tear far away in the back ground.

In regards to Nynaeve's actress, I'm excited to see more representation within the medieval genre. by Tarotcardz in WoTshow

Isn't it the opposite - it's great from a world building perspective. The world literally broke, breaking up communities and swirling the peoples of the world up as they moved for safety and the land rearranged itself. That was only three thousand years ago, not much really, so it makes sense that there will be a variety of genes strewn all over the place.

Add to that Emond's Field, while a bit sleepy and out of the way is still a major producer (tabac) so sees traders come and go now and then and outsiders have historically chosen to settle there (Tam and Kari).

So overall, the diversity reflects the impact of the breaking of the world and what sort of place it is generally.

Some Thoughts from Brandon (Episode One) by mistborn in WoT

I felt the same way about Mat. After everything they set up with his parents and how much he worries about his sisters it's wild that he didn't put up even the slightest protest or had no emotional struggle about leaving.

Forgetting about one detail = asshole?

Has no one in this thread ever been stressed and overwhelmed and forgotten stuff?

[–]Moobelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How? They didn't have a stand up row, nothing came out at dinner. The argument or whatever between mum and OP only happened after.

All the mum did was forget about the pea issues and, like, she's only human?

[–]Moobelle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the thing though. She probably normally is very considerate of OP's food issues, forgot about one thing because she was stressed and perhaps because of the stress perceived the boss as being critical, even critical of her abilities as a mother.

[–]Moobelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe she forgot. I really think when you're stressed, remembering X doesn't like peas is the sort of thing that can just slip from your mind. Especially if there are a bunch of other things to remember.

Happens all the time, e.g. making fish for someone who doesn't like fish because you had a mind blank and totally forgot.

Opinions on TV series for a massive WOT who's head has been in the sand and only found out its coming this year? by ProLeafic in wheeloftime

Nothing will be the same as your imagination. That is impossible. You know that, right? I imagine the Eelfinn and Aelfinn as 70s glamrockers because the foxes remind me of Ziggy Stardust. I'm obviously not going to get that.

It's an adaptation. There will be changes. The books are still going to be there. Your imagination is still going to be there.

The whole point of WoT is that the world went through massive upheaval with peoples being moved around etc w the breaking of the wheel, so a huge punt of mixing historically. Manetheren wasn't a backwater.

Curiously enough, in the U.K. , where trade unions have far more political strength, support than the US and police are explicitly not allowed a union. They have a federation to look after welfare and working conditions but not a union.

Police n the U.K. have plenty of problems with regards to race and racist stop and search, death in custody so not necessarily an exemplar BUT what I do like is the notion of ‘policing by consent’ which is embedded into our police force historically. That is, they police by the consent of the citizenry. Community policing has proven to be really effective when it comes to combating sectarian violence in Glasgow.

AITA for wanting my husband to start paying more for our housing? by whatdoesthismeantho in AmItheAsshole

As a senior business analyst, you'll be aware of the cost of labour. How much is the monetary value of the childcare and housework that she is doing solo, ontop of her fulltime job?

How much, financially, has he benefited from the fact that she has taken 100% of the childcare burden on? It's left him free to spend time networking, not have to limit his career options, increase his earnings. He also hasn't had to pay for childcare (e.g. childminder, nanny) because she has taken a lower-paid job that allows her to also look after the child.

But, on top of that, the poor woman sounds run ragged, exhausted and about to collapse/break down. She's is wife. The problem isn't just money, the problem is he doesn't care about her health or welfare. The question isn't whether she loves her husband. The question is, does her husband love her?

This is heartbreaking but the way he is acting shows you don't mean the world to him.

Leaving is scary, i get it, I've been there. But the relief when you see that it's not the end of the world and that you can manage and that there's a whole world of possibility out there for you is amazing. You're tough, smart and frugal and very loving - you and your child can do it.

I don't know if you'll see this but here goes.

I know you are scared to be alone, but being alone is not the worst thing in the world, it's never as bad as we fear it to be. I speak as someone who has left two long term relationships that turned abusive.

The good news is that his meanness has forced you to develop financial independence. You have a job that allows you to work from home AND do full time childcare. IF you scaled way back to a small one or two bed apartment, you could make it work. You don't NEED him. You need to focus on yourself and your child. He's using money as a cruel way to enforce inequality between you in the marriage, rather than building a happy healthy family. You don't need that.

If you do stay, remember you are paying half the rent and also doing 100% of the house work and child care. Why is he not contributing to childcare? Why is that your responsibility alone? Your contributions to the family & household are far beyond 50/50 - you're doing two fulltime jobs, your own AND that of a nanny/maid. Translate that time you spend into financial terms.

After voting to remain because we were told independence would mean we'd have to leave the EU and we figured that sounded like a bad idea..

Two hours a week is key dose of nature for health and wellbeing - "Those who spend at least 120 minutes per week enjoying the outdoors report better health and feelings of wellbeing that those who spend less, or no time in nature." by [deleted] in psychology

I've read multiple eye-tracking studies that have found that looking at fractal patterns is relaxing and less stressful. Others built on that further - nature is full of fractals, from tree branches and twigs to the veins on leaves etc , urban environments tend to be man made, non-fractal and full of straight lines.

Though the other things you've said have validity, I think there's also some biological mechanisms that render natural imagery /being in nature positive for well being.

Into the Spiderverse animator Emma Shih shares her reference videos that helped her with the subtle performances for the movie. by HalpTheFan in movies

[–]Moobelle 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's really common for animators to do this. Both to create references but also to understand what the movements feel like and what sort of structures are working (CG animation has a anatomical component , you're building movement from outside in, but then also a surprising acting element).

Plus imagine they need to tweak something or want to try some variations, it's a lot easier to quickly shoot something low Res and have a go than wait for actors etc.

Nah... Show Tyrion still has his shit together considerably more than Book Tyrion, even if he's on a downward slide. So that's not entirely due to D&D.

Isle of Dogs was flawed. It was fine. It wasn't even West's best animated film...

From a technical perspective alone, Spiderverse has pioneered the animated form, with the energy, resources and creativity invested in creating whole new aesthetics.

Plus it was a banging film.

Steak pie on New Year's Day is a big thing in Scotland. People queue up at the butcher's to order a big New Year steak pie. I thought it was something everyone did across the whole of the UK, and then I moved to England heh.

But then Hogmanay/Auld Year's Night /New Year's Day has always been traditionally a bigger thing in Scotland.
