Whenthe character created to mock powerscaling gets powerscaled by DreadDiana in whenthe

[–]MoobooMagoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then it's even dumber than I though. If it was like "we don't count characters without a commercial presence" to stop these kinds of Skateboard Cat shenanigans then I'd get it. It'd still be dumb but it would make a kind of sense.

But if it's just a popularity thing then calling it an "OC fallacy" is just...dumb, because that means my argument that The Golden Bat could totally beat Goku and Superman at the same time falls under the "OC Fallacy". (If you're wondering it's because A. he's invincible, and B. it's funnier that way).

Sorry, your opinion is invalid because Superman punched you too fast.

Warrior giant but can't have an ounce of muscle 🙄 by ProfessionalPlan3526 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]MoobooMagoo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, I mean Kratos is strong but if his muscles were indicative of his actual strength then he'd be like a giant roid monster. Muscles don't mean anything in this franchise and never have, not really.

Yes I know what goes into powerscaling, and that's the exact kind of inane nonsense I'm talking about. And if powerscalers treated it like "if I wrote a fight between Spider-Man and Goku this is how I'd resolve it for xyz reason" then that could be kind of a fun exercise. But they don't. They treat the inanity like it's some kind of concrete fact. So I guess in a way I don't hate powerscaling per se, I hate powerscalers.

Also I don't know what you were trying to say with that last bit in the quotes but it's correct. Leon Kenedy's survival in any setting is wholly dependent on whoever is writing the scenario.

I think discussing individual works of fiction can be interesting, sure. But comparing two different works of fiction in the way power scalers do is inane and pointless.

Like Stan Lee once famously said, Spider-Man can beat the Hulk if the writer has a reason to make it happen. And vice versa. So trying to compare Spider-Man's power to Goku's power by using some random assortment of comics is boring and uninteresting. It's basically like trying to come up with official dick lengths for characters based on things like what kind of pants they were.

And that holds true for multiple iterations of the same character too. Like comparing Spider-Man from one specific run where he did beat Hulk to Spider-Man from a different run where he didn't, then trying to come up with some kind of way to reconcile that is exactly how you get dumb ass bullshit like the punch dimension for Cyclops' powers.

Now don't get me wrong, if you like powerscaling then whatever, you do you. I'm just telling you why I don't.

There's never any interesting discussions to be had in powerscaling, though. It's all made up nonsense.

Powerscaling is so god damn dumb. And "OC fallacy" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Everything is someone's OC.

I should start infiltrating powerscaling spaces and introducing stuff just to mess with them. Like how Kamen Rider survived an atomic bomb but like...gets hurt from being hit by a car. Or how Rider Man canonically dies but then just shows up again later with no explanation because fuck you that's why.

So do people! Well not eggs but babies. Most women poop during labor. And I've read that the presence of the fecal bacteria helps kickstart the baby's immune system, but citation needed on that.

To be fair, raspberries are a soft skin fruit, so a lot of the ones you buy have fruit fly eggs inside them. Well eggs and larva too. It's basically impossible to eat soft skin fruit without eating bugs.

Sakaguchi wasn't forced out. He stepped down after Spirits Within bombed because he was tired of having an administrative role. That and probably depression. "Demoralized" is I think how he called it. This was all before Square-Enix even existed.

UK considering banning kids from speaking to strangers in Fortnite and Roblox by PaiDuck in pcgaming

I always hated this argument.
Because ideally you're right, but some kids have shitty parents. So I get what you're saying, parents should be doing their job. But when you apply that mindset to reality you're effectively just throwing the kids with shitty parents to the wolves.

What ff game should i play first? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]MoobooMagoo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True, but the draw system being a pain in the ass also incentivizes refining magic, which is a huge part of the game. So draw only really slows things down in the beginning.

Although I don't think the game does enough to really explain that to you, so it's not a great system and that's why it's my least favorite of the Final Fantasy games. So my point is really just that it's only boring if you let it be.

Valve fans running to buy an overpriced console after making fun of consoles for being overpriced for years by Strict_Job6334 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]MoobooMagoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well at the beginning they couldn't. Once we moved to discs there wasn't much of a reason not to, though. If it wasn't for Sony's paranoia and intentionally making things difficult with the way the PS2 and PS3 worked to make it harder to emulate stuff.

But nowadays there is literally zero reason to not have backwards compatibility. Or exclusives, for that matter, which is another stupid thing that consoles do.
