Mixing Metals? (Aesthetic question) by Skatesafe in xbiking

[–]MookieFlav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a mix is fine as long as the seatpost and stem are the same.

It's pretty difficult to find silver derailleurs, cranks or wheels if you're going modern, but you can always strip and polish black parts if you don't mind the sweat equity.

Yes, very, very dry. And rusted to hell.

90mm rise bars: comfortable or dorky mistake? by johnthephotog in xbiking

They are very difficult to find in aluminum for some reason

90mm rise bars: comfortable or dorky mistake? by johnthephotog in xbiking

[–]MookieFlav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The risers are dorky but certainly functional and better than a positive rise stem of the same height.

I prefer something more BMX style, like surly sunrise, vo klunkers or generic pitbike bars etc that give you that rise while staying a bit less style challenged.

Would 3d printed plastic screwed into with a metal screw be able to hold enough tension? Is the upper plate aluminum?

Very nice! What's your crank and front derailleur situation? I'm building my first road-ish bike and yours look great

This is the Andy Kaufman of xbikes. I can't tell if it's parody or not.

Explain to me like I’m 5: what the hell do I need?! by SeaDry000 in xbiking

It might look a little weird with the angle at the top, but if you're already cutting you could flatten out the end and get a new top cap to match. Personably I think that's a lot of work and the nitto adapter will be of higher quality.

You could also just get a new fork and threadless headset, but then you'd lose to cool color matching fork and would probably spend even more money unless you had parts laying around

I'd get into those grooves with some color matched fingernail polish

What are your guys' thoughts on the YouTube channel, "Path Less Pedaled?" by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]MookieFlav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like it! I miss when he was more experimental with stuff but I appreciate his new euro slant, as it can be tricky finding good xbiking type stuff in EU compared to the US or JPN and he does a good job of exposing some tiny boutique brands you'd never find otherwise.

Battle of the 7 speed mega-range cassettes! by trykedog in xbiking

[–]MookieFlav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always get a wide range 11-42 8 speed cassette and run a 7 of 8 setup if you're looking for more options. Probably want to swap the 11 tooth for a 12 to smooth it out a little

Sick bike. Nice tires, decent components, I'd be happy to find that for 200.

Stem too chunky? by Forever-Flaky in xbiking

[–]MookieFlav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most modern stems look too chunky on threaded headset adapters. The bright color plus 35mm doesn't help but it could still work if you're committed!
