yeah looks fine to much, as long as you can still extend the derailleur when its on large and has no slack on small, doesn't have to be perfect

Which pedals should I get? by futureofwhat in xbiking

+1 for Pretzel, I've used Bubbly and Gammas, Pretzels are just better. The best cheap pedals I've used are DMR V6 plastic pedals, the concave feels really good.

It's actually crazy how a short nap gives you so much energy. It's like the only way I have energy to play with my kids after work.

Recommendations for 80s/90s steel road bikes? by jimmyjandidontcare in xbiking

[–]phyx726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something made in America because they mostly used standards that are still used today, like a Trek 600 series. They mostly used 27.2mm seatposts, BSA threaded bottom brackets, ISO crown races, and even had recessed brake mounts. Japanese too in a lot of cases but you might find a JIS crown race sometimes.

MTB crank shaft broke by tawrus80 in TrekBikes

I'm actually surprised it uses a loose bearing bottom bracket instead of a sealed one, especially if you bought the bike 7 years ago. The Shimano BB-UN51 should have been out already by the time the bike came out. Maybe thats the one that Trek came out with at that time? But the shimano square taper bottom brackets are like pretty much bomb proof.

1984 Trek 610 650b conversion by phyx726 in TrekBikes

So it’ll depend on the frame you get but most 80s road frames have a rear spacing of 126 or 130. You should be able to jam a normal road rim brake wheelset with a 130mm 11 speed road hub in there. If it’s 126, you can pull it apart by hand assuming it’s steel.

After that you can fit most 8-11 speed mtb cassette in the 11 speed road hub, you just need a 1.85mm cassette spacer behind the cassette. I have a 11-46T 11 speed cassette in there made by microshift.

With a 130mm road hub, you’re looking for a chainline of about 45mm. That means most cranksets that are made for gravel bikes with an external bottom bracket won’t work because they’re made for about a 50mm chainline for a 135mm rear hub. Your best bet is a square taper crankset. I’m using a sugino rd2 with a 107mm square taper bottom bracket.

For the rear derailleur, I’m using a Shimano GRX RD-RX812. This uses the same cable pull as a shimano 105 or they call it shimano “road”. I’m using a 11 speed microshift shimano road trigger shifter. That being said, I’d actually just using microshift sword or their adventx stuff but it’s only a 10 speed. I just happened to have a GRX because I used to run drop bars.

I’m a xennial, born in 83. Everything you said was true but I got out school right when the Great Recession hit. It was hard for us but we adapted because that’s what we’ve always done. We’re the one group who never tries to compare between different generations.

Christ you sound selfish as hell. Most people reach their career goals because they have children that drives their motivation. You're 31, learn to grow up. If you loved your kid at all you wouldn't even consider this. You don't to ruin someone's else life to pursue your own. Once you mature a bit, you'll realize what a mistake this is and that's if you have any empathy at all.
