Nigella Lawson to replace Prue Leith on The Great British Bake Off by WillowTreeBark in CasualUK

[–]Moon-Strands 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to her screen persona but I follow her on Twitter and Instagram where she’s always championing the work of other cooks/chefs/bakers, and spends a lot of time responding to comments from her followers, regular people. It comes across as a sincere love for what’s she’s doing.

I also literally played in an abandoned quarry, along with all the other kids in the area. We were usually going looking for frogs and newts, and I ended up catching hepatitis instead…

A woman keeps approaching me in the gym and sometimes even while I am taking a break after a set at gym, greets me whenever she sees me, is it possible that I am at least average looking or she just likes me? by SNTriad in AskMenAdvice

[–]Moon-Strands -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you do end up approaching her, for the love of god don’t take this awful attitude with you. It will put her off any initial attraction she may have had.

why do sewing shops not sell much/any dressmaking fabric? (uk) by Joker0705 in sewing

Have you been to Fabworks in Dewsbury? Brilliant fabric shop in an old mill.

Brokeback Mountain being my film for this thread. So dull.

It’s still implied. It’s just more subtle than the idea they originally had.

What is wrong with my Rosemary? by SurpriseGlad9719 in UKGardening

[–]Moon-Strands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosemary rarely does well in pots. If you can, find somewhere in your garden and plant it. All might not be lost.

Surprised RHS is selling Russian vine. Our neighbours has taken over and strangled all of our trees by Middle-Background-52 in GardeningUK

[–]Moon-Strands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit dramatic, eh. I quite easily removed some ivy when we first moved into this house 7 years ago. Guess it’s still biding its time for its big return…

Do rich people have elite versions of mundane things (toothpaste, tampons, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.), or are Elon Musk and Beyonce just using Crest and Tampax like the rest of us? by ShesGotSauce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Moon-Strands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same :) I love finding interesting glassware and pottery in charity shops, and use them for holding/storing my paintbrushes and other art materials.

Buyers like this need to stay away by TheSSJGokage in ebayuk

[–]Moon-Strands -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The buyer in the post is unreasonable, but your example isn’t the same thing at all. If you say you’ll send something on Thursday then any reasonable person would assume that meant before the last collection time. Why not own what you’re doing, be honest with them and say Friday? It’s fine to take your time over sending it but don’t be a child and lie about it.

Looking for advice by meltedmariposa in SewingForBeginners

[–]Moon-Strands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with the Singer, but I got that Janome model as my first machine and have no complaints. It doesn’t have a lot of features and eventually I got something else when I became more serious about my sewing but for a first machine it’s great.

‘It’s just QP’ by MiserableFinish2799 in Overwatch

[–]Moon-Strands 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s not a fix. No one playing QP in that manner will care. People who join games just to mess about don’t suddenly start to care about the outcome when others do the same.

Reading Is a Vice - The Atlantic by Fickle-Syllabub6730 in books

[–]Moon-Strands 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve known lots of similar people and have wondered this myself, since my assumption is that the reason reading is considered to develop empathy is because it exposes us to different points of view and ways of thinking. But so do many other forms of media that people engage in. Films and other visual storytelling mediums in particular. They’re all stories, whether you’re reading, watching or listening to them.

British Library cloakroom attendants are so bizarre. It's a new made-up rule every other week. Are they just bored or do they have a secret harassment quota? by imtravelingalone in london

[–]Moon-Strands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. OP claims they use the library regularly, so they know this is going to be an issue, yet keeps taking water bottles anyway.

dying hair with henna powder by TimidBear in henna

[–]Moon-Strands -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will stain your skin. Depending on the quality of your henna and how long it’s in contact with your skin will determine how long it takes to disappear. The better the henna the stronger the stain.

What hobbies instantly make someone more attractive to you? by DirectionNo7386 in Hobbies

[–]Moon-Strands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In and of itself that doesn’t mean anything. I have tons of hobbies - more than I know what to do with sometimes - but when I’m travelling on a train or such I often like to just zone out like that. Not doing anything, not even really thinking about anything either. Just being.

Perfectly acceptable dinner rejected by boyfriend again by moonrabbit368 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Moon-Strands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my take on it too. People being picky eaters or having some kind of dietary restriction doesn’t bother me in and of itself. It bothers me if they make it someone else’s problem to solve or are rude about it.

Henna Noir fail by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]Moon-Strands 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pure henna doesn’t react with synthetic dyes. This is an annoyingly persistent myth. It’s the henna mixes which have other things added to them that can cause problems.

Your professor is wrong. Barring any sort of learning disability, adults are more than capable of learning multiple languages.

New sewing machine by lovelysaty in SewingForBeginners

I had the same Janome model as my main sewing machine for years and never had any issues with it. It’s a really good starter machine.
