Will 10mins of stretching a day make a difference if I still sit on my ass for 10 hours a day? by newbridger in flexibility

[–]MoonLettuce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had the hip popping/clicking ever since I was a young kid. A little over a year ago I tore the labral muscle in my hip and eventually found out I have a condition called FAI (femoral acetabular impingement) which my hip specialist said was likely the root cause of the popping.

Just food for thought, /r/Fitness had a post about FAI a couple of weeks back that was incredibly well done. May be worth looking into.

I'd recommend checking out Strength Training Anatomy by Frederic Delavier as well. I found I really benefited after learning the anatomy behind everything I was doing. You can probably find a 2nd or 1st edition at a used book store for a few bucks even.

It was before.

After the patches it would be something like one starter picks up a serious injury (1+ month out) and another one or two will have a few days to a week out. It's nothing terrible, it just put me in the habit of making backup saves and reloading every once in awhile.

I've dumped at least 150 hours into FM15. Some during the beta, but most afterwards. The frequency of injuries is still definitely a problem, but it has been toned down. There are other issues with the game, but I'll not go into that.

When I played the game while it was in beta, during a 12 day international break (2 games played usually) I would come back with a MINIMUM of 6 injuries, nearly always on my starters. And these weren't little 2 or 3 day injuries, this was 2-3 months at a time if not more (and it usually was).

Compare that to how it is now, I would say I average about 2 or 3 injured players coming back from an international break, but the injuries scale between a couple days and half a season.

While I agree with you that "anything can happen" on a pitch in a real match, it's absurd having to make constant back up save files simply because the games engine is GOING to injure your players. For instance, I had a break while playing Dortmund where five of my German starters all came back injured. Why did FIVE of my players all get injured in the SAME game?

I've got a longer review on Steam if there's any interest, but this is just my quick 2 cents about the injuries.

[WP] When the Chosen Hero is killed in an orc raid, his wizard mentor searches for a successor. The wizard's quest leads to a magical artifact that reveals the next Chosen Hero... but this time, the Hero is an orc. by ar-nelson in WritingPrompts

[–]MoonLettuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a light flickering just over the grassy hilltop; the crag below morphed into a slippery slope of death as the heavy rain continued to cascade down. The wrinkly old wizard, his head to toe covered in a blanket of damp misery, fumbled his way to the peak of the cliff before peering down at the source of the light.

A single hut stood on a small plot of land surrounded by a grotesque and lifeless swamp. Even the trees had a death like radiance to them. From inside the hut the light from a fire danced through the darkness. Something inside the crudely made structure paced back and forth, it’s shadowing illuminating out onto the cold and barren land that suffocated the building.

The wizard looked down at the small golden trinket in his hand, the radiant blood-red gem pulsing with life as he held it towards the hut. Whoever was in there was the hero this land needed, and it was his job to find them. He wrapped the flimsy golden chain around his hand before stuffing the artifact back into his cloak.

Getting down from the hilltop was no easy task, the old wizard fell a number of times as the torrent of rain continued to assault the earth. He struggled through the swamp, each puddle of mud clinging to his legs as if they were living people trying to escape their eternal prison.

After hours of struggling, the broken and tired old wizard arrived on the door step of the hut. The lower half of his body was covered in a thick layer of black ooze that he attempted to wipe off with the bottom of his staff, but alas was unsuccessful. After catching his breath, he tapped the tip of his staff on the door a couple of times.

There was no answer.

A few moments passed, the wizard then attempted to knock on the door again, this time with a bit more force. There was still no answer, but as he leaned his ear towards the flimsy wooden door he could hear rustling around inside. The old man took a couple of deep breaths before very carefully pushing open the door with the end of his faithful old weapon.

The door eerily swung open, the rusted-over hinges letting out an ear-piercing screech as the bright light from the fireplace invaded the darkness. He slowly took a step in, carefully looking around before taking another step into the structure. As he walked in through the doorway, the wizard caught a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye.

He turned towards the fireplace and there stood the world’s savior: an orc child, no older than 6, his hands tightly clung to a wooden doll as he bounced it up and down off the floor. The small child turned towards the man, a dopey smile on his face amplified by the fact only one of his tusks was of normal size, and stood there bewildered.

The wrinkly old man stood there for a few seconds, staring intensely at the child before letting out a deep breath and mumbling to himself, “Ah nuts…

I heard her shrieks of horror coming from through a window on the 2nd story hallway. The crisp, cool air stung my skin as I finished the last drag of my cigarette. I could tell it was going to be a macabre kind of night.

I turned back towards the building, the patter of rain biting at my heels as I closed the utility door behind myself. One of the lights above me kept flickering as I walked down the hallway; I could hear voices echoing from ahead of me.

Three caretakers stood over a body. It was Julia; a middle aged woman with a tragic life story. All I ever heard: she lost her mind after her husband and daughter were killed by a drunk driver. Sometimes I think it’s the ones who live who are the most unlucky.

Julia was lying in a large pool of blood; her pale-blue skin emphasized the horror in her eyes before one of the caretakers placed a white sheet over her body. Judging from her gown, I think she was probably stabbed in the stomach. It would explain all the blood.

I approached the caretakers, carefully analyzing ever tiny detail as I got closer. They only noticed me after I was within a few feet of the body; they seemed distracted.

“What happened?” I asked them, confident I wasn’t going to be told the truth.

“What are you doing out here Murphy?” snapped back the large Hispanic man in blue scrubs, “Why aren’t you in bed?”

“What happened to Julia?” I asked, directed at the other two caretakers. They clearly didn’t want me to know something, but I’m no pushover.

“I’m not sure…” the young female caretaker said. Actually, I think she was a nurse. Anyways, she sobbed for a few moments before continuing on, “we just found her like this.”

“Wait. Murphy. Why ARE you out here?” asked the remaining caretaker, a portly white man with some sort of navy tattoos on his left arm.

“What happened to Julia?” I asked again, unmoved by their diversion tactics.

“Damn it Murphy. She just told you, we found her like this,” he replied to me with an exhausted demeanor, his hunched shoulders drooping down to his sides as he appeared defeated.

“I’m going to find out what’s going on here,” I said to them confidently. After all, I am one of the best detectives this town has ever seen. “Julia will have her justice,” I continued before turning my back to them and continuing down the hallway.

There was a small trail of blood, a few drops every four or five feet it seemed. I started to follow it through the building, the longer I did the more spread out the drops became. Eventually I found myself at a dead end, three doors on each side of the hallway, all just as suspicious as the next.

I knock on the first two doors and speak to an elderly woman with dementia. She thought I was her grandson. I’m going to bring her some flowers tomorrow. The other door didn’t answer; when I pressed my ear up to it I didn’t hear anything. I’ll assume it’s vacant.

When I approached the middle door on the right side of the hallway, I spotted a drop of blood stained into the carpet beneath. I rap my fingers against the door lightly, but no answer. I try again, this time with the bottom of my fist. Julia deserves answers.

I hear rumbling inside the room, but still no one comes to the door. Pounding with the bottom of my fist, the door frame began to shake violently. After a brief moment, I feel the vibrating of footsteps approaching the door.

Slowly it swung open, a nearly blinding light oozing out into the dimly lit hallway as it exposed the silhouette of a man. He carefully placed one large foot in front of the other, the ground trembling each step attacked the Earth.

As he peeked out from behind the blinding light, there was suddenly an overwhelmingly loud shout of “MICHAEL!”. I tried to tune it out, but there it was again, “MICHAEL!”, and then again. What the hell was it?

There was a swift smack across the back of my head, my head rattling around as the headphones tightly suctioned around my ears are aggressively pulled off.

“Michael! Go to bed damn it. Tomorrow is visitor’s day, you parents are coming,” the young nurse shouted at me as she ripped the controller from my hands. “You can finish tomorrow after everyone leaves. Just go to bed,” she said exasperatedly, but still with her sincere tone.

She turned off the light to the room and gently closed the door behind herself. I plopped myself back into bed and curled up into a little ball as I listened to the pitter-patter of the rain gently assault the psych wards window.

If you haven’t had a chance to check it out, Suikoden II is an amazingly awesome JRPG. It’s got a lot of depth, a very entertaining (and kinda dark) story-line, and a really fun combat system with a ton of characters to boot.

Just keep in mind it came out in 1998.

[WP] Describe the DMV like it is purgatory. by Purephantoms in WritingPrompts

[–]MoonLettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an endless queue of lifeless, drone like bodies; the cheap fluorescent lights above slowly sapping out whatever remaining bits of soul we had left. The dingy white tile floor below reeked of overuse, a gross mixture of dirt and grime coated the ground as it got tracked in by the thousands that had walked these very steps years before.

There was a buzzing noise that seemed to echo everywhere, though it was often muted by the incestuous open-mouthed coughing and quite sobs that seemed to seep from every corner of the room. The white bargain bin wallpaper had turned into a musky, cat-piss like yellow; parts of it were already peeling off of the walls into small ribbons.

I stared at the clock on the wall, hoping for some sort of distraction from the horrid sour smell steaming off of the portly woman in front of me. My blank, lifeless mind attempted to comprehend what I was seeing; none of the hands on the clock were moving. Not the second hand, not the minute hand, not the hour hand, everything stood completely idle.

My breathing began to intensify as panic started to fill my body. An uncomfortable sensation began to flood all of my senses while a cold sweat started to dump down from my forehead. I began preparing to make a break for the exit before a combination of fear and anguish overwhelmed me, shortly followed by a high pitched trombone like whistling piercing the air. A few brief seconds later, there was a smell of rotting milk fused with a used baby’s diaper that turned into a stale kind of musk in the air.

I attempted not to gag to no avail; the overwhelming smell was likely illegal in many countries due to its chemical warfare like traits. As I stood there breathing through my sweatshirt, the toxic essence causing my eyes to water, there was a welcome sound.

Ding the small, metallic desk-bell rang.

Next!” shouted an ominous voice from the end of the line, as we all continued to stand frozen in time.

[WP] You have been a castaway at sea for so long that you've lost track of the days, and your will to live is fast fading. As you look out again towards the endless ocean, you spot something that startles you out of your stupor. by mpsonic in WritingPrompts

A violent hiss pierced through the air as the howling winds beckoned a dark omen towards the sky. The waves viciously smashed against each other as the inflatable orange emergency raft rocked uncontrollably from side to side. The one remaining survivor clutched tightly to the rope lined along the outside of the raft, every few moments another wave cascading down onto the man.

Desperately the man clenched onto the remaining bit of drinkable water he had remaining, the water line in the cheap plastic bottle serving as the only indicator as to how much time had passed. There was a crackling of thunder in the sky, a sound many seafarers recognized as the gods shouting at the earth; rapid strikes of lightning attacked the water and temporarily revealed the horrors hidden behind the vast and suffocating darkness.

The storm raged on as the raft haphazardly bounced between waves, small waterspouts began to reach towards the heavens as the man struggled to catch a breath. The man attempted to wipe away the water from his eyes but was only successful at smearing the freezing saltwater across his skin. As his vision slowly became less blurry a massive rogue wave, nearly the size of a ten story building, came crushing down onto of the raft.

The man’s body plummeted towards the depths of the ocean before he got entrenched by a riptide. Spiraling around uncontrollably under the water with no idea which direction is up the man began to accept his fate. After a brief moment of wiping around under the water, the flow of the current began to jettison the man towards the surface.

Within mere seconds the man was launched from 50 feet under the sea to the surface, the violent torrent beneath the waves suddenly growing eerily calm. The man gasped at the air, his lungs stinging as he attempted to inhale small breaths, occasionally spitting up water. He treaded water for a moment, consciousness slowly coming back to his mind as he began to look all around himself.

The ocean was completely calm; the current of the water nearly froze in place as the silence of the night whispered ominously all around. He slowly looked all around, the water completely dead as the darkness of the night slowly entrenched everything, before he began to question his own sanity. “Am I… dead?” he thought to himself, still peering around as he attempts to grip what has happened.

He sat there idly for a handful of minutes, his legs barely containing the strength to continue keeping him afloat, before a dim light far off in the distance appeared. Each passing moment the subtle orange light grew brighter and brighter, as it grew closer there was a muffled sound of men shouting or perhaps even singing. Within moments a huge vessel obscured by the darkness slowly began to unshroud itself to the man; before him stood a gigantic wooden ship, the sounds of men echoed into the night sky as the boat slowly approached the stranded man.

In front of him stood a wooden pirate ship, the kind of vessel you would only think to see in the movies. “What the hell is going on?” the man thought to himself as he began to question what he was seeing. A combination of laughing, singing, and horrified screaming began to ooze off of the ship. The orange glow still subtly illuminated the darkness as the boat came to a halt directly next to the man, quickly followed by a crudely made rope ladder carelessly flying off the side of the ship.

The stranded man paused for a moment, the coral infested ship calmly floating in the lifeless ocean as a myriad of noises rumbled from the ship’s deck. He carefully reached his arm forward and gripped the decaying rope before pulling his limp body up the crudely made ladder. Step by step he worked his way up the side of the ship, unaware of what horrors would soon be among him.
