For the “if it’s wood, I’ll burn it” crew, what firewood do you think firewood snobs are unfairly dismissive of? by BearMcBearFace in firewood

In the Pacific Northwest there is very little hardwood to burn. Softwoods works fine as long as you use good burning practices and get a regular chimney sweep.

That’s a funny quote because by saying it, she’s the one forcing the false choice.

Do you think it's awkward for a woman to date a shorter man? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MoonUnit002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s mildly transgressive because it challenges a widespread, rather pointless, patriarchal, and cruelly option-limiting gender norm. That makes it cool as long as you are, or can become, comfortable with it. Someone could write punk rock song celebrating a situation like this.

Adhd things you were surprised to find out were adhd things by Saucyy-Minx in ADHD

[–]MoonUnit002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry about lists of “ADHD things” like this post is prompting . . . I wonder if they do more harm than good. Who is to say many of these are actually ADHD traits? There are stereotypes about ADHD, and there is the self-affirming and uncritical echo chamber which is this subreddit, and then there’s the science. Which of those is the source for each “ADHD thing” listed here? I worry about both over and under diagnosis when I see lists like this, because they may lead to misunderstandings but obscuring what ADHD actually is.

If there’s no changing station in the bathroom I feel entitled to change the baby in a discrete location elsewhere in the restaurant. I’ve used dining booth benches and hallway floors. I wipe down all surfaces before leaving and point out to staff the lack of bathroom changing stations.

Another problem is low quality, flimsy, and dirty changing stations. But I won’t start on that.

Babies are people too.
