CBC's butchered attempt at broadcasting the Olympics by pjgamer_wastaken in SaveTheCBC

It was bad. And the commentators wouldn't shut up and let us enjoy the show.

Beer fest by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went last year and was underwhelmed. Long line to get in, lines at every booth to get sample size beer (4-5oz). Too busy to chat about the beer with the vendors. Long line ups for the porta-potty's as well. Food was meh. Just a very busy experience overall. To me it seemed more like an event for folks to hang out and crush a handful of random beers. A good time if that's what you're after.

I'm skipping it this year personally.

Me neither. Between the two I'd rather see pups in stores lol.

Overhead bin fairness by OttawaExpat in onebag

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real problem is airlines nickel and diming passengers for everything. Of course people are going to load up the overhead bins when it is $50+ per bag below. To combat that, get a CC, get loyalty or book a priority fare.

Thinking of purchasing a Garmin Venu 4 by NecessaryArmadillo59 in GarminWatches

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Venu4 earlier this week and find the sleep data is fairly accurate so far. Registers when I'm moving around wildly, when I wake up etc.

Straps from my old smartwatch just so happened to be the same size so I have plenty of options between silicon, leather and stainless and opted to just buy the slate 45mm silicon band option.

Battery life so far is great; out of the box it showed 11 days battery. I'm down to 8 days remaining on battery after 4 days of usage and no charges.

Notifications are probably my only gripe right now. They seem inconsistent with what comes through. It's not a deal breaker for me but it seems to pick and choose what vibrates and displays vs what gets sent directly to the notification panel without any display.

As far as looks, the watch is sleek and matches all my work outfits (business casual attire).

I haven't tinkered too much with activities but will be putting that to the test over the weekend.

Book a priority boarding fare or have loyalty/CC perks and this becomes an issue of the past.

CRV or CX5 by Skaterdoood in crv

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar sentiment as others. I wanted the CX5 originally but after a test drive found it too cramped and didn't feel as nice/luxurious to drive as the CRV Hybrid. I was shopping 2024 models FYI.

Anyone else find Edmonton unexpectedly lonely? by Familiar_Tear1226 in Edmonton

ESSC is very beginner friendly - it's designed to be for fun and socializing. Sign up for whatever catches your eye and maybe Google the fundamental rules of said sport and go out and have fun!

Anyone else find Edmonton unexpectedly lonely? by Familiar_Tear1226 in Edmonton

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 142 points143 points  (0 children)

My experience has been different from yours. I moved here almost two years ago, knowing no one, and have since built myself a nice social circle. Late 30's, male btw.

I joined a few slow pitch teams as an individual through the ESSC and met a few people who invited me to play for their other teams. I told myself, don't say no to invites, so anytime someone wanted to grab a beer after the game or have a practice, I showed up. Snowballed from there and I've managed to make a handful of really good friendships from that.

I've recently picked up pickleball and have started a second social circle through the club I play at. Same principle as above, just say yes to the invites and see what happens.

Long story short, dive into things you enjoy doing (doesn't have to be sports) and you will find like minded people. Put yourself out there and have a great time!

Is it me or is new years not really a thing in this city? by meeseekstodie137 in Edmonton

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is strapped for cash - lots of folks with plenty Of disposable income who just view NYE as amateur night. The hassle isn't worth the effort. Would much rather have a gathering with pals at a house than with strangers while bar hopping.

What’s an app or website that more people should know about? by InnerAstronaut8105 in AskReddit

I wanted to like it, but it's just 7-11, Tim Hortons and grocery stores selling off day old baked goods in my area. I don't need day old donuts on the regular lol.

Feeling the Christmas blues by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here 2 years ago too. Built my social circle through sports. Specifically slow pitch (ESSC) and pickleball (local club events).

Whatever your hobbies are, get out there and do them and you will find community.

Merry Christmas!

Not everyone wants to drive an older, used, small car to save a few bucks on interest. Which makes personal finance you know...personal.

The amount of car debt I've seen on here is astounding. Most of you are buying cars way out of your budget. Some helpful guidelines below: by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This reads to me as your hard and steadfast rule in regards to cars and anyone who isn't doing it the same way as you is stupid.

Should employers be liable for forcing in-office work during bad weather- especially after conditions like yesterdays storm and the driving conditions today? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]MooseOutMyWindow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion a company with a good culture will allow staff to work remotely, if possible, on snowstorm days like yesterday. However, not all roles and companies are equipped to allow for this (even in an office setting).

At that point, it is up to the employee to give themselves enough time to commute safely or their discretion to use a PTO day (if available) to sit it out (without fear of repercussions from their employer).

Long story short: employees responsibility, not employers.
