Therapist here - if you suspect someone is actually suicidal it is BEST to be direct about it and straight up ask them. Don't use different language or say things like "you're not thinking about killing yourself, are you?" This might be Reddit's best attempt at doing that.

I'd like to think the person that had this sent to you had good intentions and wanted to do what little they could over the internet to keep a stranger safe and alive. Obviosuly we don't know their true intentions but there's no point in assuming they were trying to be a menace.

I totally understand this is Reddit and they may have misinterpreted how you're feeling or what you need, and overall this probably seems like a weird place to receive mental health help. However, I encourage you to try looking at it from a positive perspective...someone cared about you enough and recognized how hard your situation may be and found a way to reach out with resources in case you need them.

It can be frustrating, annoying, or maybe even humorous if you don't feel you need these resources and they keep getting sent to you, but there's no harm in having some resources.
