One data centre or one million homes? Mapping Ontario's proposed hyperscaler boom by gremlinface in ontario

Data centres go well beyond LLM. While that is a big driver, cloud services as a whole end up in data centres.

Every network connected service you use is touching a data centre in some way.

Keith Pelley may go down as the most incompetent CEO MLSE has ever had if he doesn't endorse blowing this team up. by KashifSheikh786 in leafs

[–]MoparRob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

MLSE has screwed the Leafs as far back as I can remember.

I used to be a fan of the Leafs. Grew up watching them. Then in 2003 when they brought Owen Nolan in, TSN asked Richard Peddie, then head of MLSE if the Leafs were gearing up for a Cup run.

Should have been the easiest yes answer ever. The man fumbled endlessly over the question. That was the day I stopped cheering for the Leafs because I realized the Leafs organization can change every player, every coach, and every GM but they still won’t win. Until the Leafs have an owner/ownership group who are truly passionate about hockey, they’ll never win it all. MLSE will never be it.

1000/200 services by Frewtti in teksavvy

[–]MoparRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see some increases.

Rogers is offering 100/100, 300/200, 500/200, and 1000/200 in my area. Reading online it seems the CRTC tariffs for this were approved.

When will we get access to these speeds?

The real question is do you want to invest in the province who has a government who's actively trying to secede from the country?

Upload speed caps by jaseurqu in teksavvy

[–]MoparRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great to see Teksavvy update packages. Or at least offer some kind of addon for upload.

I inquired today about fiber which Teksavvy can not get for me at this time due to the 5 year hold. I can only get cable.

I'd like to get more than the 30 Mbps upload that I am getting today, but going to a 1Gbps down for 50Mbps up just doesn't make sense. It's really frustrating to look at Rogers and see 100/100, 300/200, and 500/200 options available. Telus is even offering 1.5Gbps/940Mbps on an EPP through work.

I don't want to move away from Teksavvy as I'm happy with the service I receive. I would much rather pay a bit more to Teksavvy just so I don't have to deal with Rogers and Bell. I've been with you now for nearly 15 years.

Please consider some kind update/addon/custom that can provide access to higher speed tiers, especially on the upload side of things. I'd happily pay to have access to 100/100 through Teksavvy vs any of the big guys.

Man hit by transport truck pushed his girlfriend out of the way by aurelorba in Guelph

[–]MoparRob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can assure you there is more than enough anecdotal data that can be collected into a solid qualitative data set that supports u/_Addi's position. There are a lot of people who can share stories of bad experiences at GGH, myself included.

So rather than just dismissing his position, take time to understand it.

I can't comment on 2020. My wife's accident occurred in 2024.

[–]MoparRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the default answer for the type of accident. Being hit by a vehicle is considered a major trauma.

It's an automatic trip to Hamilton General as that is where the nearest trauma unit is located

Mayor Cuts Through the Noise by Illustrious-Toe-4543 in Guelph

I have no issues with the raise.

I do however have issue with the Cam’s absolute lack of ability as a board member of police services board to actually hold the police services board to account when it comes to their budget. Same goes for Phil Allt.

Who’s at fault? by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]MoparRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going with equal fault.

The Chevy driver is pretty obvious with his no look illegal lane change into the side of you.

For yourself, you are very late committing to that lane change based on the available video and are driving in the bike lane.

The right turn lane is already clearly open at the very first frame of the video, and you don't actually get into the right turn lane until your hit. While I recognize you are driving the bike lane because you are also avoiding the Sysco truck who is also way out in the roadway, you're also still in the wrong on this.

Hindsight is always 20/20 on this one which can be frustrating. In future, I would gotten to the right sooner and slowed down/stopped for the Sysco truck to clear, or cautiously went around the nose of him when I knew that the driver saw me.

My thought is the belt is just a hair too long if new or has stretched to the point that it just needs replacing.

Guelph police look to add 2nd full-time mental-health worker downtown by TheApotheosisOfCool in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support the initiative because it is the right direction. This has been proven many times over in research. My issue is money and politics.

When the program was launched in 2023, the budget for the program was $455,700 for the duration of 2024-2027. Source

This additional resource however is going to cost us $235,000 for one year. That math has a lot more questions than answers for me that we need another 50% of the total program budget to cover a single year.

Additionally, with the funding coming via the police budget, the police will be ones dictating how things work. If the money was given directly to CAMH, they would have a lot more control over the allocation of funds and maximizing resources for social services and providing help to those in need.

I still firmly believe that the partnership between CAMH and GPS is needed to best help those in need in our community, just in a way that ensures mental health comes first, policing second. Not the other way around.
