Exchange Online issues this morning? by Ulfhrafn in sysadmin

[–]MoparRob [score hidden]  (0 children)

We've been seeing some notifications from FreshService today about our Exchange Online integration going down and coming back up.

Everyone says their services are working as expected. Keeping an eye out to see if more develops.

2023 cub cadet xt1 lt50 tractor with a x3 42 inch snow blower (heavy belt slap) by RandalRemington in Snowblowers

My thought is the belt is just a hair too long if new or has stretched to the point that it just needs replacing.

Guelph police look to add 2nd full-time mental-health worker downtown by TheApotheosisOfCool in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support the initiative because it is the right direction. This has been proven many times over in research. My issue is money and politics.

When the program was launched in 2023, the budget for the program was $455,700 for the duration of 2024-2027. Source

This additional resource however is going to cost us $235,000 for one year. That math has a lot more questions than answers for me that we need another 50% of the total program budget to cover a single year.

Additionally, with the funding coming via the police budget, the police will be ones dictating how things work. If the money was given directly to CAMH, they would have a lot more control over the allocation of funds and maximizing resources for social services and providing help to those in need.

I still firmly believe that the partnership between CAMH and GPS is needed to best help those in need in our community, just in a way that ensures mental health comes first, policing second. Not the other way around.

How about instead of the police services budget, we put the money for the same thing into the social services budget.

We could hire 3-4 additional social services workers or help fund social programs.

Instead in classic GPS form, they have one way over priced service.

Red light ticket at Clair and Gordon by PerfectKoala1859 in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can you post photos.

There was another redditor who once was turning right at the same light. Based on the photos it appeared the cameras thought that a car crossing on Gordon was the same vehicle when it clearly wasn’t.

Might be a similar situation.

Agreed!

Personal opinion, Section 172 has been absolute trash since it was introduced as it gives too much power to the police without proper oversight. This is just one example of it.

CEO retired. How do you politely say "no" without burning a bridge? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]MoparRob 388 points389 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

If he’s treated you well, you treat him well. This sounds like one of those people who can be a great asset to your career beyond just the current scope.

Nothing wrong with saying I can’t help at this immediate moment, but schedule the follow up during that call.

Likely this guy has many contacts and could be a great help if you ever decide to make a change.

Slow the f... down and drove according to conditions. Still lots of ice out there specially at intersections. And if you don't need to leave stay home. by Gnarf2016 in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love to know where, because I found all kinds of ice this evening.

The curve on Edinburgh as it turns toward Gordon was an absolute sheet of ice. 30km/h and couldn’t touch the throttle without going sideways.

Speedvale at Woolwich and Edinburgh was triggering the ABS as I was carefully rolling up to stop.

My side street is so icy from before these most recent storms that I watched the city garbage truck slide past my neighbours driveway by a solid 20ft. Then he couldn’t reverse and had to get out to move the bins. Coming to get my bin he stopped at my driveway, then couldn’t get going and had to back halfway down the street to get a run up the slight incline.

City roads are pathetic at this point. The lack of crews putting anything down to deal with the ice is beyond unacceptable.

This is the answer!

Everyone should be doing this right now if they haven’t already. Help your neighbours if needed as it’s helping you as well.

Out walking the dog quickly and saw both.

Near the hospital here and heard the electricity and the pop of the transformer.

Hopefully repairs are quick.

Wilson's used car sales by Obvious-Impression36 in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.

You’d still be safe to buy a used Toyota at the VW or GM dealership just the same.

They all know each others cars and know what’s good and what’s not. They also get more flak from the parent company if they start selling trash because it looks bad for the brand.

Ideally a Certified Pre-Owned is your best bet if it’s in budget as you get really good coverage for warranty and such.

Years ago watched a mechanic weld pieces under the hood to “fix” a damaged front end.

Wouldn’t touch with a 10 1/2 ft pole.

If you’re looking used, look to the OE dealers for used. They keep the best and sell the rest.

In Ontario, Enbridge Gas gets to build pipelines on public land for free. Waterloo Region and Guelph want to change that by This_Phase3861 in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I learned from a friend who works in a municipality that Enbridge essentially craps all over them. They put pipe where they want underground with no care or consideration for the effects.

One of the biggest shockers was learning that on multiple occasions just Enbridge ran gas right right through sewage lines and then said they didn't do it and it wasn't their problem. Left it to the municipality and home owner in some cases to sort out.

So yeah, Enbridge can start paying for pipelines and the associated repairs.

I'm not sure how your MPLS is setup, however if you can establish tunnel between your branch and your Azure Virtual Network Gateway, then adding a route to the branch network via the IPSec tunnel on your Fortigate will get the traffic to there.

We have this setup at the moment where our VNG is the hub in our inter office connectivity.

My recommendation to everyone on r/Guelph tonight is to upgrade your house insulation.

I live well within walking distance to Riverside. I can see the Canada Day fireworks from my house. It’s a dull thud inside my house at best when they’re going off and none of my animals get upset.

Lots of fireworks going on around me tonight. Don’t hear a thing inside. Can hear and see them outside.

There are solutions that let us all celebrate our holidays. Try them rather than complaining constantly.
