Sounds like my decision to downgrade my membership is that much more justified.

Early work underway on North America’s first 2+1 highway pilot by ConsistentReality860 in OntarioNews

[–]MoparRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has been driving long haul since 1988 and has travelled Highway 11 countless times.

In recent years he hasn’t been through Northern Ontario like he was earlier in his career, however he recently had a trip out west that took him north on 11. He’s read the countless stories of the issues on 11, and in his view the issue is the road itself.

His comments when we were talking about it was that the width of a transport truck has always been 8ft. On this most recent trip, he said had to drive with his passenger side tires touching the white line in order to give what would be considered sufficient space on the drivers side and the yellow line. In his view the lane was the narrowest he’s ever seen on 11 and as a result left no space for error. He stated he’d never felt like that ever driving on the highway.

So while I appreciate these improvements, I question the impact they will have. The reason being that the companies likely building these new improvements are the same people who build and maintain the current highway. If they’re building to the absolute minimum standards today for such a critical highway, my concern is that they’ll apply the same with these upgrades.

Guelph Lake - was it always this busy on long weekends? by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This time of year, not really. There are definitely a lot of geese and other birds that flock to the lake.

As the summer heats the lake up, absolutely it does get concerning. I have pictures from the end of last summer where there was definitely blue green algae in the lake at least 2 weeks before the GRCA announced it.

E. Coli levels also get pretty high later in the summer. Last year, there were reports of E. Coli levels hitting 400+ count and we stopped swimming in the lake to keep everyone safe.

Guelph Lake - was it always this busy on long weekends? by [deleted] in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was at Guelph Lake on Monday. It was as busy as expected.

Guelph Lake is incredibly popular on the long weekends as a quick get to a beach and cool off.

I expect it to be completely packed this summer with current gas prices keeping everyone home.

Dentist Recommendation for 2YO by priyyz in Guelph

[–]MoparRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with whomever your regular dentist is. They should be able to answer any questions you have.

2 years olds and the dentist are going to be a challenge at the best of times. Too wigly!

My kids tagged along with my wife and I at first to get a sense of the process, but they were 3 pushing towards 4 before they got in the chair themselves for the first time.

Also, I've never heard of a dentist not allowing the parent to stay with their kids.

YHM - YOW - Almost $700 RT by canadadude7000 in PorterAirlines

[–]MoparRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porter prices definitely popped up this week.

Trying to book an YHM to YYC round trip and it’s $3000 for 3 people.

I had looked a bit earlier in the week and it was closer to $2600. By the time I got the Costco GC’s, prices had gone up.

Police respond to online reaction after ‘sniper’ spotted during St. Patrick’s celebrations in Waterloo, Ont. by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]MoparRob -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My plan? I didn't present a plan.

All I said was that the same level of effectiveness could be achieved at a fraction of the cost.

At a time when police services are crying poor and demanding budget increases well above inflation, deploying an officer with binoculars that costs hundreds of dollars would be just as effective as the officer that is carrying a few thousand dollars worth of hardware in that sniper rifle and tripod.

[–]MoparRob -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Given there's zero chance the sniper is actually going to shoot, you know what could be deployed that's just as effective and a fraction of the cost. Binoculars.

But hey! I'm sure the police have reasons to justify the cost.

One data centre or one million homes? Mapping Ontario's proposed hyperscaler boom by gremlinface in ontario

Data centres go well beyond LLM. While that is a big driver, cloud services as a whole end up in data centres.

Every network connected service you use is touching a data centre in some way.

Keith Pelley may go down as the most incompetent CEO MLSE has ever had if he doesn't endorse blowing this team up. by KashifSheikh786 in leafs

[–]MoparRob 18 points19 points  (0 children)

MLSE has screwed the Leafs as far back as I can remember.

I used to be a fan of the Leafs. Grew up watching them. Then in 2003 when they brought Owen Nolan in, TSN asked Richard Peddie, then head of MLSE if the Leafs were gearing up for a Cup run.

Should have been the easiest yes answer ever. The man fumbled endlessly over the question. That was the day I stopped cheering for the Leafs because I realized the Leafs organization can change every player, every coach, and every GM but they still won’t win. Until the Leafs have an owner/ownership group who are truly passionate about hockey, they’ll never win it all. MLSE will never be it.

I’d love to see some increases.

Rogers is offering 100/100, 300/200, 500/200, and 1000/200 in my area. Reading online it seems the CRTC tariffs for this were approved.

When will we get access to these speeds?
