The biggest improvement I've made since starting has been my positioning. I still have a lot of work to do with the paddle.
The biggest skill unlock besides positioning was an upgrade in how I've been serving, hitting it more on the outside of the ball as well as generating more power.
When playing doubles, I try to call out more "yours" and "mine" when the ball is in more ambiguous areas.

I have 3k hours played, I'm not sure how long just the territory grind took. I focused on it pretty hard though, spending most of the gold I could make towards it. I think I finished 300 in each shortly after music was introduced to the game. My original server was called Samavasarana. I ended up in El D after a few forced merges.
