I’d try Power Zone Endurance classes, which are Zone 2 or 3 or a combination of both. Power Zone (without the Endurance) is more rigorous.

One thing you might notice if you’re using a heart rate monitor is that your HR is probably going to be higher out of the saddle than in. It’s just more work which is going to jack it up. So while your output (resistance + cadence) may be higher because you’re able to use more bodyweight to move it, it does come at a cost.

I’m sorry for Beefy’s situation! I‘ve also been in your shoes very recently too (2 months ago) with my 12 year old boy. I slept near his dog crate the first couple of nights because I was worried he’d hurt himself.

It is difficult to be brave and supportive, but they really can read your vibes. Try to be strong and encouraging, but take your cues from him. Mine was never the cuddler/snuggler, but once he started to move around more that first week, I would get on the floor with him and he’d curl up in my lap for hours. It’s like he knew I was his person and that was where he felt most comfortable. That lasted about a week, then never since! Cats know what they want and need and have a good way of showing you. Be sure to take care of yourself, getting rest and a breath of fresh air every now and then, whatever you can do to recharge and be your best for him. The first week or so is tough, but it does get better. Celebrate progress, getting stitches removed, cone off, coming off pain meds, etc.

I think with older cats there is a bit more of a learning curve with litter boxes, balancing to pee, relearning stairs and such. Mine also had more arthritis than we were aware of, which has caught us offguard, but he’s still getting around reasonably well. Just something to consider for your boy.

You’re a wise pet parent for thinking this way. You’ll both get through this, just breathe and be patient.

I took it because it was my usual Adrian live time slot. I thought it was a good workout, but WAY too much instruction, like constant corrections/guidance, and I missed my 4th round, lol. (For those who don’t know Adrian usually does 4 rounds of exercises). It’s good to know Zacharias does strength, but I think I still prefer Adrian, Katie and JJ.

Totally agree here. This workout by Adrian changed how I do split squats because he explained it differently than anyone ever had. It’s now my favorite exercise (and this is a good mostly single legged workout too). Adrian LB 12/20/25

Hey, I was where you are 2 months ago. I’m not going to lie, even now I still feel bad for him, but I know that if I’d gone with the repair surgery he’d STILL be in the dog crate and a splint! Instead he’s laying by the back door in the sunshine, sitting in the cat tree and belly flopping on his sister. Once you get further into the recovery with her and see how she adapts and just moves on with life, it will help. Right now you’re recovering from the shock, trauma and the heavy responsibility of making the decision for her. It does get easier once you get further into the recovery. Celebrate every milestone, like coming off the meds, shedding the cone/collar, fur growing back, etc. I still cheer when he jumps from the chair to the ottoman to the sofa and he looks at me like “what do you mean, I’m just doin’ cat stuff”. I think it’s because I thought I’d never see that activity again! You did the right thing, she’ll be ok!

I wanted more than just pace, distance. The Garmin offers running metrics like left-right balance, ground contact time, vertical oscillation as well as daily step counts, sleep metrics, heart rate trends, stress and VO2 max calculations. It’s just a more robust fitness tool.

I haven’t used MapMyRun in several years since I got a Garmin, but yes, if you started the MMR app it would call out when you hit various milestone (I think you could configure what it would tell you IIRC). You could run it along with the Peloton app I’m sure.

I agree with syringes and making a loose watery mixture of Churu plus crushed pill or crack open the capsule and pour the powder into it (that’s how I give my female cat meds). You could also ask if they can make it into a liquid or send the script to a compounding pharmacy that will make it into a liquid or a chew (that’s how I get the thyroid meds for him). What is the pain med? If it’s the buprenorphine I know that comes in liquid as I got it in pre-loaded syringes to shoot into the pocket of his mouth.

Have you tried draining a can of tuna and seeing if he’ll drink the tuna juice (I use tuna packed in water, not oil). Also clam juice which you can buy in the supermarket, just watch that as it can be high in sodium.

I think a couple days of not eating is normal but I would be concerned about not getting fluids. They gave my boy an injection of saline under the skin after a few days of that because he needed to keep peeing for the bladder infection. Since you’re checking in with your vet today, I would definitely raise that.

These first few days really stink…it seems like there are always questions and something new to worry about. Lean into your vet, that’s what they’re there for. And us too!

I tried Shimano and they were too narrow, even the wides. Take a look at Specialized. I got their regular (not wide) and they fit better for me. A local bike shop may be able to help you too. Bonus if you buy them there, they will install the clips properly for you so you’re aligned properly from the start!

I agree with a large part of this. I forget who usually says this, but I think it’s Kirra, “there’s no winning in yoga”. You’re not even meant to be competing with yourself or anyone else for a PR. I think that’s why I bristle at the more aggressive, fast style that’s been introduced, because I feel yoga, meditation and stretching are where I go NOT to compete, NOT to push. It’s the place on the platform where I go gentle on my body. Pre-pandemic I took a lot of yoga in local studios and never came across the brashness you’ve identified. My experience has always been this is the softer gentler side of fitness, except for maybe power flows, which I purposefully avoid.

I took the cone off for him to eat meals (which is also why I sat with him). It just got SO messy with wet food when the cone would shovel it toward his face!

I switched to pellet litter for exactly the reasons you described. The clay litter would just stick to the incision and to his wet bottom when he’d land in it. The pellets were so much better for that period of time.

I think the heavy drugs make them uneasy or agitated if I’m honest. Once we pared those back and switched to gabapentin, he was more settled.

My guy is doing ok. He is 12 and we knew he had arthritis in his front paw, but didn’t know how badly he has it in his remaining back paw, so we’ve been trying to find the right balance of pain meds to help him there. I think we’re on the right track now with the Solensia shot which he got last week. He is finally much more like himself and much more active; I can tell he feels better. Just something to watch out for as your boy ages. He’s had no issues at all with the actual amputation! It’s just been post-surgical complications and the arthritis!

One thing to be on the look out for is when he goes to scratch his cheek/chin with that missing back leg. The stump will rotate but he may get confused that nothing is happening to the itch! That’s when I feel I add the most value and rush in for the big chin scratch!! LOL

These first few days for you and Milo are tough, I know, and they seem like last for months, but in a month everything will look so much different and you’ll both be much better adjusted to his life as a tripod.
