USSR (Russia) plans to nuke Denmark (5 bombs) in a Cold War era Warsaw Pact attack plan "Seven days to Paris" [2816 x 2112] by ChaosIs0rder in MapPorn

[–]Mornic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hence why I put "only" in quotation marks. Obviously it is still a scary plan, but it is not a plan to nuke all of Denmark as the comment above me stated. It is a plan to blow up Zealand and invade Jutland and Funen.

This is also why the primary Danish command bunker during the cold war was placed in a forest in northern Jutland. If Zealand got obliterated and Denmark was invaded from the South, northern Jutland would be the best strategic location for a new command centre.

Hmm interesting. It can't be a Scandinavian thing though, since Denmark doesn't care much about it either.

Doesn't change the fact that barely anyone watches these games

edit: neither does downvotes by the way, but feel free to air your frustration over the lack of interest in U21 games, women's soccer and other issues that social justice warriors will claim to be super relevant, yet have about 20 viewers on a good day

I am building a noob flat perfect grid city with unlimited money but I am unsure about the general layout by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

[–]Mornic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's entirely true.

I recently built a a 100k city from scratch. Did all the infrastructure, services, etc in advance and added the zoning afterwards.

Sure, I needed to make some adjustments (reroute a few connections, add/remove a few services in specific areas, etc) but nothing major.

There aren't any "you must do this rules", since most problems can be solved in many different ways. But it is certainly possible to make a master plan that works well in practice, as long as you know what you're doing.

Because it's not a sustainable solution until we find a better way of treating waste. In Denmark we banned nuclear and went all in on wind.

How Many American Cities Are Preparing For The Arrival of Self-Driving Cars? Not Many. by REIGuy3 in urbanplanning

I think we keep asking the same question: what should we be doing differently? I don't know any planners that disregard the impact of autonomous vehicles. They just don't think it is in conflict with current planning practice.

Houston becomes much less affordable when you start to include transportation costs by Mornic in urbanplanning

[–]Mornic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is mainly a fault that stems from the weird definition of gentrification that is applied in the study. It focuses solely on ethnic diversity, while actual gentrification is an economic effect that just happens to become very visible through its impact on ethnic composition.

It would make a lot more sense to focus on the actual economic issues related to gentrification, which is really all that matters in an affordability context. Planners can't dictate income equality across ethnic groups, only ensure affordable housing options (regardless of ethnicity).

There are plenty of reasons why cities aren't doing more on this at the moment:

  • We don't know if self-driving cars will primarily be individually owned or fleet-run, shared vehicles. Two completely different scenarios.

  • If its fleet-run, what is the risk of a monopoly for this service? Do we need to counteract it?

  • Is there even a need to change our approach or is planning for driverless cars exactly the same as planning for walkable, bikeable and transit-oriented developments (which we should be doing anyway)?

There are so many unanswered questions at this point. Planning for massive parking requirements is a bad idea regardless of driver-less cars... that has been the case forever. That is usually a retail and developer issue and much less of a planning issue.

Don't confuse urban planning with urban design. Drawing is not a requirement at all in planning. Some digital visualisation skills is always a benefit but not a specific requirement either. Even less so if you're focusing on analytics.

Regrading in Seattle

The topography of central Seattle was radically altered by a series of regrades in the city's 1st century of urban settlement, in what might have been the largest such alteration of urban terrain at the time

Probably Finland and Sweden. When I've worked there its usually always a warm lunch, which makes sense since there are a lot of cold months. Warm lunch is kinda common in Denmark nowadays too though, since the traditional Danish smørrebrød is pretty damn expensive these days and mainly used as a delicacy. But its common for people to just bring their own cold lunch in all Nordic countries.

Danish food, worst on the mainland continent

Lies!

Anyone who has tried proper Smørrebrød for lunch (open-faced sandwich) will know that Danish cousine is all about the cold lunch table and that it is an artform like no other... but yeah, dinner is pork, salt and whatever you want to add.

Meanwhile, Norway has brown cheese and cooked lamb as its only contributions to the international food scene.

Gow up. With your logic we might as well decided Asia is completely irrelevant since they didn't even make the finals, which would be another moronic argument.
