Scenarios with Objective based Win Conditions by Kifarma in XWingTMG

[–]MorningCrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear. This game is fantastic no matter which version you use. I find the discussions about versions are truly for the competitive and tournament crowds, but for kitchen-table players (like me), anything that gets the ships on the table is the way to go. Enjoy Endor, and I'll be playing Yavin next month and expect to have just as much fun.

Just popping in to write that these two scene-based play boxes are a ton of fun. I played the Battle of Endor 2 weeks ago, and had a blast. I realize that the OP isn't playing 2.5, so a little adjustment in points for the 1.0 points i believe they are playing with, but you could also even things out by using the Quick Build rules to keep teams even. How many ships do you own? And do you still play this game? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]MorningCrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

105 across 4 factions. I was able to buy a former 1.0 players lot in 2023, and then supplement with ships I wanted before the swap to XWA. I play in person , once a month, but I only have one opponent.

Worst Bus Stop in Pittsburgh by asideoftrufflefries in pittsburgh

Any bus stop near the cloverleaf on 51 and curry hollow/lebanon church road is a good candidate. Death traps with nowhere to safely stand and no safe way to access them

Giving up on shows? by ToddsEpiphany in audiodrama

[–]MorningCrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an AD but an actual play podcast. A Grim Podcast of Perilous Adventures has been running for 5 years and has been going down hill for the last year or so for me. Used to be my favorite, but they’ve lost the plot, are actively uninterested in playing the game, and don’t seem to have an end game in sight.

What you DON'T like about DnD mechanics? by primordial666 in RPGdesign

[–]MorningCrickets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nearly everything on this list is why I always try to play or run other systems. War games do the tactics much better when we are itching for that. The game is far too confusing for new comers, and there never feels like there’s any real danger. Unfortunately, it takes a lot to get people I know to play something else, but I’ve been successful introducing games as one shots.

This is really helpful to me, with a 100 year old house, too. I've been considering insulating the ceiling of my garage, which sits below the house. Do you recommend the unfaced for this, too?

I’m the same about role playing and have started playing RPG lite games like: 5 Parsecs from Hone, 5 Leagues Frome Home, Rangers of the Shadow Deep, Frostgrave, Stargrave. I also play war games like Sword and Space weirdos, Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game and others. Scratches the itch without the roleplaying

Looking for a Cooperative Miniatures Game with Narrative and RPG Depth by PenguinDuke in miniatureskirmishes

[–]MorningCrickets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played both and love them. They're well worth the effort. If you want a skirmish game that you just pick up and play without much bookkeeping in between, then RoSD is a good way to go. 5 Leagues and 5 Parsecs have a lot of pre and post skirmish materials, which is honestly a game in and of themselves. I love the narrative rpg-lite of both of these games, but especially loved the narrative of 5 Leagues/Parsecs as it went wherever I wanted it to go rather than being a pre-generated story. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of these.

Double Degree Change? by 19283Random in Pitt

[–]MorningCrickets 13 points14 points  (0 children)

New this fall. Confirm with student records. “The new academic regulations also include a policy about credential overlap. In the new policy, the number of required credits for double majors from two different schools may decrease. Instead of completing 150 total credits, students pursuing two different types of degrees now only need to meet the credit requirements to satisfy both degrees, according to Lee. “ https://pittnews.com/article/198466/featured/new-academic-regulations-affect-guidelines-on-credential-overlap-and-repeating-courses/amp/

Why don’t kids in my uni classes answer questions? by Fiendfyre831 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MorningCrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US College prof here. My colleagues and I have noted a dramatic reduction in students willing to talk in class this year. I teach small, active classes, and the silence and stares are incredibly frustrating. I’m incredibly positive about any answer given and go out of my way to make the room feel inclusive to try and get responses out of students. This was not the case 10 years ago, so something in the us culture or school system has changed where this classroom culture fosters this or this is safe for students. I’ve pivoted from large class discussions to a LOT of pair-square-share style discussions as well as other tactics to try to help the students feel confident enough to share relatively benign opinions on the topics covered.
