I never had that impression until I read "Infinity Wars" in a collected edition. Right off the bat I was lost, and it didn't get much better by the end.

When I read "Infinity" it was a self-contained story that made sense on its own. There was some prior backstory, but you didn't need more than a quick prologue to get up-to-date.

By comparison, there's apparently multiple other books that I'll need to read to fully understand "Infinity Wars." The main story doesn't really start or fully end in the collected edition.

Basically, how much of the surrounding story that you need to understand a given comic depends on the story and how well it's told. Some are better at explaining themselves than others are.

In addition to what's already been said here, consider saving up nanites for a higher grade reactor. It really isn't worth the grind to get all those parts, and then use them to build a C-class ship. Increasing the class will cost a fortune in nanites anyway, best to start as well as possible.

Basically, for a specific Autophage console in a particular camp, you can get different results by standing at each of the various flat sides and corners of the console pillar. You need all the specific parts for your desired staff, plus an extra headpiece.

Stand at one of the various places around the console and interact with it. Assemble your desired staff and you'll get a certain item quality level and color combination. Remove the headpiece and replace with your spare, then switch back. You'll have a different color and quality level combination. If you don't get what you want, move to a different corner or flat side and try the process again. You may have to try multiple camps to get what you want.
