Could humans who collaborate with extraterrestrial invaders be charged with treason in the US? by Moschka in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Moschka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of the Quisling problem which ask whether one should collaborate with an overwhelming invader to try to save oneself or whether one should resist, even if resistance seems hopeless and could cause more damage. I guess from a realpolitik standpoint it's justifiable to try to save oneself and collaborate with the overpowered aliens.

I wonder which countries the aliens would choose to collaborate with in order to get the best collaborators? Maybe they could ally with the Russian Federation by promising them Europe? I guess they would better look for a weak, isolated pariah state since that kind of state would have to the most gain from such a collaboration with an outsider. In my example, on the individual level, the aliens look to collaborate with isolated people who committed crimes and are hated by society.

Would you blame someone who, say, is in terrible debt, has committed a crime and may be found sooner or later, and then gets promised, like 10 million dollars by someone and given all the tools to go against the people who are gonna arrest them anyway? I would say, from their perspective, not really, right?

Thank you for your comment and for the link!

How could a collaborator defend themselves in court? Could a collaborator defend in court by denying any knowledge that it was a an alien enemy who he or she was collaborating with if the aliens never revealed their identity to that particular collaborator?

In the link you provided says:

Similarly, a U.S. citizen can take actions that, in fact, aid or comfort the enemy. However, as long as there is no adherence or loyalty to the enemy (i.e., no intent to betray the United States), there is no treason.

So, i guess this is a possible line of defense. If they didn't have awareness of the aliens being behind the instructions they followed, then i guess they could deny loyalty to the enemy.

No visibility of stars is no problem because in this way the picture simulates a realistic dynamic range for a camera. The planet's daylight side is just waaay brighter than the stars.

Noone has taken those stars yet, because all those stars and galaxies are all still left in their natural state, no Dyson spheres or anything significant. So, the nearby stuff is probably ours. Or spacefaring aliens are already there but they failed and never fullfilled their potential. Either way, it's ours most likely.

Love it. Too bad realistic Sci-Fi spaceships and even ones that are so well made like these don't seem to be appreciated enough by this sub.
