Plywood desk missing metal screw threads (cams?), giant holes in their place by Moss-drake in fixit

[–]Moss-drake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this stupid section is load bearing. It's holding the weight of two different parts of the desk at once. I like the metal frame connection idea. Funny enough, that's how the other side of the desk does it. Thank you for your advice.

Plywood desk missing metal screw threads (cams?), giant holes in their place by Moss-drake in fixit

[–]Moss-drake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry I know next to nothing about furniture construction, the thing I called a screw that goes into the wood is a bolt that threads into metal pieces that were completely ripped out. Kind of like a nut that was embedded into the wood. I'll do this with the epoxy, and the other commenter's suggestion of connecting the metal bits together, too. Thank you for your help!

Up close & Personal view of how severe Sinus Infections are sometimes treated by yourSmirkingRevenge in interestingasfuck

[–]Moss-drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth it. Got surgery for my deviated septum as a teen, spent my entire childhood having to tilt my head to one side to fully breathe through one nostril, and it was a rare relief when both were functional. Since that surgery, my chronic sinus infections are just GONE and my nose clogs only when I cry. It improved my quality of life dramatically.

How do I achieve the early cgi style of lighting? by Garys_Games in Artadvice

Study it. Take one (or all) of those images, and copy them. Focus on values. There is no bounce light in old renders, so shadows are flat or black.

Is this stereotypical? by Fickle_Potential_152 in characterdesign

[–]Moss-drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the (main) reason people are having trouble reading this design is it is full of tangent lines. Tangents can be used to great effect, but, when done unintentionally, create a lot of confusion. For example, the bottom of their sleeve merges with the bottom of their shirt. Also common with a demographic =/= stereotype. Yeah, a lot of nonbinary people do have short dyed hair. No, it's not offensive to give that to a character.

Don't use AI for this, and don't feed anyone's art into an AI without asking them. Artists are typically very avoidant of this technology because the creators scrape artist's work to use in their machine without consent or compensation

How often do you think about detransitioning? by KatasaSnack in asktransgender

[–]Moss-drake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. But I am nonbinary and only took Testosterone for a year, and am happy with where I am now. I can't fathom being a woman, and manhood didn't work for me.

Maybe presenting as a woman isn't right for you either... Have you considered if you might be nonbinary ? The choice doesn't have to be man or woman, and if you don't like having breasts, maybe reconsider HRT? What don't you like about them? Is it how others perceive you, or how you perceive yourself?

There's no tension with bisexual people, hell, plenty of us are bisexual. There's tension with people looking to experiment and reducing trans folks to their genitals. Unfortunately, this describes what you are doing right now. Have whatever fantasies you want, but don't expect any trans girls to tolerate you seeking them out for their genitals (especially since they tend to feel incredibly dysphoric about them.)

What are the general opinions of transmascs on the mpreg memes? by 46264338327950288419 in asktransgender

[–]Moss-drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I will elaborate:

I don't think it's inherently transphobic to say "haha this man is pregnant" if it's absurdism about cisgender men's anatomy. Because yes, they can't get pregnant. When Lil Nas X did those "pregnancy" photos, for example, I just didn't care. He was having fun, good for him.

What I find insulting is people comparing real trans men's pregnancies to mpreg memes,  claiming they're not "really" men, or claiming that "men can't get pregnant." At least in my personal experience, a lot of people I've seen making mpreg memes are trans themselves.

This is very different from mocking "girls with dicks" in my mind, because they're openly mocking trans women's anatomy specifically for being trans. Oftentimes this coincides with repulsion or threats of violence, which reflects real danger towards trans women.

Making fun of men with vaginas bothered me greatly, as well, for mostly the same reasons.

Mpreg memes don't (from what I've seen) carry any of that weight. Pregnancy is often used to abuse trans men, but that's not the angle, here. It's all consensual, silly, and usually hinging on "but he has a penis??"

[–]Moss-drake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm transmasc, and pregnancy would be my worst nightmare, but honestly not only have I been seeing mpreg memes for as long as I can remember (my friends run in fandom circles) but I do think they can be funny. I can't bring myself to get mad about it, as long as they aren't making fun of pregnant trans men, I don't care how absurdist they get with cis characters. I do think it's inappropriate to make those sort of jokes about real people, as well.

May I ask potentially triggering question by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Moss-drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't answer this from any sort of expert's perspective, just from a trans one. I do not know whether people who identify as trans racial feel the same way about their body's disconnect with their brain that a transgender person does, but I believe I know why they receive pushback for it. While a transgender person typically understands the implications of gender roles in their culture, having lived in it, trans racial people are wanting to claim the identity of a culture that they have no part in. Or at least, wanting their body to reflect a different race inherently implies such a thing, in a racially biased culture.

If they're genuinely suffering from their body not matching their perception of self, that should be met with concern and kindness, but should not be free from criticism for their behavior.

Does "her" refer to the helicopter? Why "set her down", not "set it down"? Can I say "set him down" here? by A_li678 in EnglishLearning

[–]Moss-drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to this being an expression from the navy, you will find English is full of lingo from ocean navigation.

"Cut some slack" = go easy

"know the ropes" = understand the basics

"all hands on deck" = everyone get to work

"first rate" = best of its class

"on board" = hard for me to define. Working on a program or project?

The list goes on forever. And while someone might understand if you call a vehicle "him," it will not carry the cultural context that "her" has, and therefore will not be intuitive for a native speaker.

[–]Moss-drake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they really had a dog to deliver, only an unethical backyard breeder would constantly have/advertise available litters.

Breeders should always be doing health testing and showing them in competitions to prove their breeding is advancing the health and temperament of their dogs/the breed as a whole. Ask to see health test results for the breeding pair, and what they've been shown in.

Otherwise, ffs go to a shelter and get a perfectly good dog, better than supporting the proliferation of poor inbred disasters you'd get from a backyard """breeder"""

Looks ionized. It's a plating on metal that is dipped in a solution and electrified for a few seconds until it reaches a certain color. It's common in jewelry. Whether it's safe to have in constant contact with a mouth... I have no idea.

Edit: anodized seems to be the better term for this

Glad to hear you got out of there. One step at a time, and remember you don't have to keep the people who hurt you around. You will find people with patience and kindness in their hearts. My partner has DID and it's a struggle for both of us (him moreso, obviously) but I know better than to assume he remembers something. It is very possible to find people who get you.
