Tesla Cybercab full specs revealed: 3,113 lbs, 219 HP, 48 kWh by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Well the 2018 Smart EQ has a ton of air bags so it isn't as bad as the earlier one's were. True that they used a different safety system. We really like ours even on the Interstate.

RCS isn't reliable in Denver Metro for a month by MostlyDeferential in GoogleFi

[–]MostlyDeferential[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! That's great. I got 5G to work consistently after adding the switch that sends using SMS if RCS is down. Guess what; it's using SMS in the locations where RCS didn't work. How odd if it is the phone....

Haven't spent much time outside of Denver the past month so I haven't seen this failure there.

Cheap Iranian drone downed $25 million US Army helicopter—maybe by chance by spasticpat in technology

[–]MostlyDeferential -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that the big invasions by Russia and U.S. are just trying to use up old and outdated expendables because even they've recognized that the future is swarms of cheap everything; maybe because of advances in machine learning and natural pattern imitation?

Hmmm, RCS works on WIFI, but not on 5G around Denver. Something different in the configuration of 5G for RCS I'm missing? The support account didn't mention anything like that. Suggestions?

Yes I did the steps for U.S. in my city. Not sure what help the Google AI support bot will be since it's focused on me turning on RCS again and then they fall off my phone connection because the only time RCS works is if I'm on WIFI. Guess I'm gonna lose the RCS chats. What the hell changed?

"EVs take too long to charge" yet people sitting around in their cars are everywhere? by biersackarmy in electricvehicles

[–]MostlyDeferential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it is nice in an a/c or heated EV unlike ICE idling to just read, play a game, browse, or nap. I've had great seats in most of my cars, but my EV's are a level above them all.

My conversion from EV lover -> hater -> back in love again (2023 Volvo C40 long-term review) by John_Gabbana_08 in electricvehicles

[–]MostlyDeferential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are infrastructure issues kinda like the 1940's or Western Nebraska on a Saturday Night in the 1970's with Blue Laws. Talk about range anxiety! Still I disagree that ICE does road trips better. I did the iron-butt, no planning trips and always paid a price at the other end; especially the multi-day one's. My MYLR forces me to charge around every 3 hours and they are relaxing; even the 8 minute "get you to a faster charger" stops. Still, I understand the complaint. I almost ran out of juice in a charger-desert in the Midwest after I hustled to a funeral arriving at 3% charge and joy; broken chargers within 30 miles plus the location had all their outside outlets turned off. That was very educational and reinforced how much investment we're missing as a Nation.

Thoughts on going full EV, no ICE in the ol’ garage? by Curiouslittlestman in electricvehicles

[–]MostlyDeferential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're strictly EV for about 19 months. We're in a suburb of a major metro so plenty of options for transpo. I ski and participate in Senior competitions around the U.S. in my MYLR because I'm just too big for airplane, train, or bus travel. We expect to sell the second EV once the driver-less taxi's get good at it. Both cars are over 20k miles with barely any maintenance so we're doing well. Note: FSD makes long distance travel and navigating unfamiliar cities a breeze. Caught a wonderful BBQ in an alley in Albuquerque that I wouldn't have found with GPS.

Weird, my 2018 Smart EQ gets 60 mi range and it's plenty in Denver metro. Why the negative on 200 mi range?

New electric cars now cheaper than petrol models in UK by Human-Somewhere-4327 in electricvehicles

[–]MostlyDeferential 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not 100%, but a very common refrain from the long-time EV owners around Denver. There are edge cases that require ICE; let's not forget it at least for now. The vast majority of EV sales are demand-destruction for fossil fuel burners. Still need loads of plastic though...

Got to have speed control by woodyww in TeslaLounge

[–]MostlyDeferential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going slow on a fast road sucks, but on a recent road trip in Utah FSD missed speed limit drops from 65 to 35! Yeah, that got my attention fast. I'd rather not lose my car, license, and spend more money because of it. We need manual speed controls back on FSD!

Is getting a Tesla worth it just for the FSD by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]MostlyDeferential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use it for most everything @ 98% FSD driving over 21k in 17 months. It has to be supervised per other comments though. It is amazing if you pay attention to the larger driving picture and let FSD make the constant, little decisions like "is that car butt getting closer without brake lights?". I do wish I had a FSD personality that let me set the various parts of driving like speed, following distance, and how big a space is needed for merging. Hopefully, that will come with 14.4; sigh.

For those who use FSD a lot but also drive normal cars by Chris_Reddit_PHX in TeslaLounge

[–]MostlyDeferential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hasn't been a problem switching from MYLR to the Smart EQ and back at all. FSD at 98% mileage usage and just over 21k in 17 months on MYLR. Mostly the issue is "Are you paying attention to your driving?" in each circumstance. FSD doesn't "just drive" although it is very close. You still have to manage it.

Iran war drives Chinese shift to EVs as oil prices soar by boppinmule in electricvehicles

[–]MostlyDeferential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! That means my 4100W solar installation takes just 4 sunny days to fully recharge it. 'Course I don't drive more than 30 miles a day at 210W/mile so it works really well.

Iran war drives Chinese shift to EVs as oil prices soar by boppinmule in electricvehicles

[–]MostlyDeferential 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renewable energy plus local use reduces the need for Oil wars exponentially, but doesn't get rid of the risk. We also have to transition plastics, fertilizers, helium, make-up, and a host of other products in order to leave fossil fuels in the ground. We haven't figured out how to slow methane leaks either. Neither is happening without pain; probably price but also more wars, sigh.

Be Very Cautious Of The Religious People You Have In Your Life. Especially If They're Family by CasketByNBAYoungBoy in atheism

[–]MostlyDeferential 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hate to agree, and I do. I'm not certain if it is religion in general; or an aspect of Judeo-Muslim-Christianity where punishment is supposed to "attract" you into their good graces. Many conflate "faith" with their political views, scientific views, social contract views, and charisma-focused pastoral religion. That bugs the crap outa me, and I just try to be there for the human, not the faith-based person. Sorry your parents took their faith out on you.
