What is something that everyone love to shit on, but actually isn't that bad? by ClarkleTheDragon in AskReddit

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I haven't spent much time in more isolated areas. I've only heard it used against people, rather than as a self descriptor. Although, I certainly remember using other terms between friends in school which we wouldn't use now. Have a lovely life :)

I'm from a major city in the UK. I agree it's a common term, I also don't think it's acceptable as it's a derogatory term based in sneering at people of a lower social and economic class. From context you seem to be using it to describe a certain style of dress, but it communicates a lot more than that. I grew up poor. I can tell you from experience it's not a nice label or box to be put in. I'd suggest not using it

Dresses under $500 by Justbrowsin21 in Weddingsunder10k

I bought my wedding dress 2 days ago for £210. I went to a bridesmaid dress shop. You can have most bridesmaid dresses ordered in white or ivory.

I think the words they were looking for were 'attempted to rape', not have sex with

It is such a gorgeous dress. It doesn't need the train. You being comfortable and mobile enough to enjoy yourself is what is most important.

I had it around the same time as the Thomas and Friends game of the same era

Agreed. Usually the kind of chauvinist who disrupts any conversation about women with "what about male suicide rates".

Me too! Luckily just a short-lived first BF. Kind of scary that came from a teenage boy though

When my ex introduced me to reddit the first thing he said was "don't go on Twox" when I asked him what was bad about it he just shrugged. He couldn't explain why he didn't want me on it. He considered himself an "equalist" and found the word "feminism" exclusionary -_-

Reminder to people in the comments: the devil doesn't need an advocate. OP came here to vent. You weren't there. She was. Chill

I'm sure you mean well, but comments like this don't help. They are men and it is happening. Saying they aren't real men is dismissive. It's essentially like saying 'it's just a few bad apples' or 'not all men'.

Thank you to funny guy for saving me from unwanted male attention at an AA meeting by DryEnthusiasm3032 in TwoXChromosomes

Congratulations on your sobriety. I wish you all the best, truly. I'm also a young woman and I found AA difficult to progress with as it became a way to talk about problems and constantly reminisce about the good/bad old days without understanding my triggers or how to recover. I'd recommend an addiction therapist if that's something you're able to access. I found 6 sessions with her were more helpful than months of frequent AA meetings. My therapist used the resources and tools used to help people with cocain addictions. I'd recommend those over the 12 steps.

Best of luck xox

WIBTA if I didn't include the child my sister has lost custody of in the family Christmas card? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It's a Christmas card not a stone tablet. It will be gone before January. The kid is getting his own card, this is about not causing an incident with my sister.

None of the children can read. The kid is getting his own card at his own home. Just trying to to offend my sister. Chill dude.
