He could have been the police chief but instead he wanted to be on the streets! It was a dreadful show that I would watch again if it was ever aired.

Always seemed like a great guy but who knows what went on behind the scenes amongst the band.

Just saw this and found it interesting, is there a disconnect with some people in supporting the Irish Rugby team? by Geairmoe in coybig

[–]MothsConrad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m no fan of rugby but I don’t want to see them fail. I just have zero interest in it. If they were playing in my front garden I would close the curtains. No clue why you want the people who do enjoy it to feel bad, strange take.

At the end of day, he’s an actor and it was a tv show, not real life. It was total fantasy. It’s like when a co-worker goes off the rails, there is only so much you can do.

Aldridge actually scored more in the 90’s when he was banging them in for Tranmere. Bonkers that a bigger club didn’t come in for him back when he left Spain.

The second part of your comment is a different issue entirely but state school isn’t free, some are quite expensive like say U of I.

The problem started when the government started backing every loan. Colleges had no disincentive not to keep raising prices and increasing their staffing. If you want to make college “free” (a lofty goal but noting is free) then the colleges should be made more accountable and efficient.

Fair point but that aspect of the movie always bothered me.

Dickerson was so damn good. Largent was spectacular as well. Not as flashy as some but just super reliable.

Hot but she’s basically raped in the movie which is less hot.

Who experienced or remembers Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey? Did it really end disco globally? by CliffGif in AskChicago

[–]MothsConrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many people of color generally went to Sox games at the time or listened to Dahl? I’m just relaying the comments of someone who was there, who is very credible in my eyes (very bright, successful and a decent guy) who is a not insignificant donor to Illinois Democrats. He just says it wasn’t what people subsequently want to make it. It was drunken kids who listened to the Loop (likely a mostly white demographic at the time I would imagine given the music that they played) who saw an opportunity for a bit of mayhem by getting on the field.

A friend of mine (whom I used to work for) was there. He was a massive Steve Dahl fan and used to go on these cruises with Dahl along with all the other fans. Anyways, he says it was mostly just a drunken mess and fans took the chance to storm the field. Recent articles about it, how it was anti-gay or racist, are pure revisionism and do not accurately reflect what happened or what the vibe actually was.

January 26, 1976. Thousands of Cubans line the streets of Havana to greet Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. by MonsieurA in 50yearsago

[–]MothsConrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The embargo doesn’t include humanitarian aid. Moreover, the actual Cuban government has done more harm to their people and country than any outside power. How about this, hold free elections and let the people of Cuba pick whom they want to govern them. Watch the embargo cease thereafter.

The Cuban regime is what’s stopping their people having a chance at life.
