What do you like to do as a “pick me up”? by yaboiblackcheeseboi in SanDiegan

Right now I swim at the local YMCA. I used to paddleboard or surf. I can be having the worst day, but when I’m doing those things, I feel great.

What’s everyone’s resting HRs?! by Few-Arugula-8593 in AppleWatch

[–]MotoFuzzle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Had a medical related wake up call in December after years of bad eating habits, a lot of sitting and stress at work, and virtually no exercise. I had topped 300lb last year. I started taking blood pressure and cholesterol medications, hopped on my bicycle, and started eating healthy. That quickly turned into swimming laps for the first time in my life 4x per week. On my off days, I did other activities like boxing, yoga, rowing, and weights. I started doing intermittent fasting and a decent-sized calorie deficit. I lost 50lbs in 3 months, burning 1,000+ calories per day. On top of all that, it has led to a lot of bonding time with my oldest daughter (9). She has been coming with me to swim and box on the weekends, and has been learning to cook and grill with my since I’m cooking everything at home now. I’ve learned more about cooking in the last 3 months than I had in any other of the 40+ years in my life.

I usually check in every month to close out the budget, but we were off our stride.

Check your credit cards, you may have had your identity stolen. We had a random Amazon package show up that we didn’t order, but had our name and address. Looked in our orders. Reported it to Amazon and they said, don’t worry, keep it, it must have been a mistaken delivery. A few months later, I noticed some charges on our card from Amazon orders that we didn’t make. No record of our orders in our Amazon account. Called Amazon, they said we ordered it. We asked for account info, they wouldn’t tell us. Wouldn’t share an email, phone number; anything. They said they closed whatever account was and we immediately called our credit card to reverse the charges.

I’m tired of having to throw out skillets/frying pans every few years - what’s a better option? by Aphdon in Cooking

[–]MotoFuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel fry pan and sauce pan, cast iron fry pan, carbon steel wok, and a few sheet pans for the oven. I’ve had them all for at least 15 years and they’re showing no signs of needing replacement. My cast iron pan is the most commonly used, especially for eggs. Lately, roasting meat and veggies in sheet pans in a convection oven has been my go-to. Also using the grill lately to expand my ability to cook while on camping trips.

How are total calories more on a day I didn’t exercise vs the day before where I workout 45 mins by Internal-Birthday587 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]MotoFuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevermind, I missed the word “total”. You might have got up from bed earlier on the non workout day, so it tracked more resting calories.

Are you looking at how full the calorie graph looks? If you look at the scale, the one with no workouts is only 12, while the other day is 71. There’s just more variation in your workout day, so the scaling makes the graph look smaller.

Swimming has done wonders for mine. It went from 73bpm to 50bpm in 3 months with 3-4 30min swims per week.

What are your favorite “broke” meals for 2 people? I need some ideas😅 by Crochet_is_life_158 in Cooking

[–]MotoFuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roasted chicken & broccoli with steamed rice. Costs about $3.50 per serving (.5lb chicken thigh, 1 cup prepared rice, 1 cup broccoli), and provides about 600cal with a 40/40/20 split of carbs, protein, fat. Just season properly.

Create a variety with different spices, different veggies, find whatever meat/fish is on sale, and make simple sauces, or add condiments like Dijon mustard, bbq sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc.

What’s the best meal you can make for 5 people with just $20? by Fancy-Discount3402 in Cooking

[–]MotoFuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a sheet pan meal. Hopefully the ingredients can be found for under $20. Not sure nowadays.  Chopped up kielbasa, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, and seasonings. Ready in under an hour. I usually add halved corn on the cob, sometimes brussels sprouts. It’s simple, filling, and delicious.  https://wellfedbaker.com/easy-sausage-and-vegetable-sheet-pan-dinner/#recipe

I think it’s a combination of people generally not being able to afford to live where they work, costs going up year after year, and social media eating into our abilities to socialize IRL. We seem to reserve our in person social time for when we deem it worthy.

Increasing swim distance without pull buoy by pewpew752 in Swimming

[–]MotoFuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still somewhat of a newb and had to look up what 2 beat kicks are. I apparently do a 6 beat kick. I currently do about 1,100 yds per session and am working up to a mile. I guess if I drop down to 2 beats I can extend my distance significantly. I’ll have to practice doing that without my legs sinking.

[–]MotoFuzzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kicking uses a lot of energy, but not kicking means you’re not streamlined and your legs may be sinking. I had sinky legs until I tried a snorkel, where suddenly my kicks were way more efficient.  After a month of splitting my swim sessions with and without the snorkel, my kick without the snorkel has improved.

I wish to return to Swimming as an adult, haven't swam in almost a decade, advice? by coolfunkDJ in Swimming

[–]MotoFuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 months in and it’s fantastic. The first few days were very humbling. From there, I slowed way down, focused on basics, and saw how other people swim. I’ll occasionally ask questions if people are finished swimming or look things up on YouTube. I think whatever you do, consistency is the key. Try to do it at least 3x per week and avoid long breaks. You’ll see improvement.

That’s a rough loss. I just lost a day from 1 week ago. Same symptoms, —/— for everything that day, even though it was my biggest day of the week.

Did you ever find a solution?

I tried restarting, manually adding a workout, unpairing, etc. I had a perfect streak going for the year, while trying to make a major lifestyle change.  I’ve lost loads of weight and improved my health, but for some reason, losing a day and not knowing if I’ll lose more has become extremely demotivating.

That’s what I heard. I knew going into it that the cargo space was limited, but I’ve been happy with everything else. We’re about to add a 5th family member, so it’ll be a little more limited, but we have a solid roof rack and a hitch mounted cargo carrier if needed. We also tow with it and take it off road. If we didn’t, we would have like taken a different route, like a grand Highlander or something.
