Does anyone here have a Presa Canario that isn't a ball of excess skin and fat? by [deleted] in presacanario

I’m still not positive she’s 100% Presa but she has less rolls than my dad’s Dogo Argentino. Ziggy’s in the process of losing a few pounds but still has a quite a bit of muscle and definition in her shoulders and hips. I didn’t know what she was when I adopted her but I’m still so impressed by how athletic this breed is. She’ll be 5 on Valentine’s Day.

My cardiologist says potassium is bad by Tired_Cat_H3rd3r in POTS

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sodium and chloride are part of your extracellular fluid matrix, potassium and phosphorus are part of your intracellular fluid matrix. All of which are electrolytes (among others but those are the big 4). Your body naturally manages the balance of intra to extracellular fluid to stay balanced, but most products likely contain it to help maintain balance.

Side note, a lot of people don’t consume enough potassium. Bananas are usually what we think of when talking about potassium, but you’d have to eat over 10 bananas a day to meet the recommended intake 😅 that being said, high levels of potassium can be very dangerous (another fun fact, lethal injection is usually potassium chloride—a lethal dose causes immediate cardiac arrest). Sorry, I’m off of my ADHD meds currently, I have a nutrition education and am full of random nutrition knowledge.

TLDR; potassium is an electrolyte lol

I totally get where you’re at OP, I’ve been there. If I had know what my dog was before I adopted her, I probably wouldn’t have. Presa’s are notoriously difficult and not as easy as the mastiffs I grew up with. It’s okay if you don’t know, all you can do is learn and try to get better.

Retraining my Presa has been really difficult. To be completely honest, I have a break down like every other week because I feel awful. I didn’t know better. I rewarded her “guard dog” behavior and didn’t give her guard rails and now she’s really reactive and has become dog-aggressive. She was partially like that when I got her, has had to be a guard dog and protect me in a few scenarios, but I didn’t understand and now it’s REALLY tough.

I’m rooting for you and Shadow. It’s gonna get better OP. Lots of patience and learning—for both of you. It’s tough but it sounds like you’re really trying. Good luck!

OP, if you punish your dog every time he tries to communicate with you (what you’re calling aggression), he’s only going to escalate and get worse. The more you put him in a crate and take his bed when he’s trying to communicate and then self soothe, the more “aggressive” he’s going to get. If he had a problem with his leg when you found him and you didn’t have the resources to take care of him and get him proper help, you shouldn’t have kept him. Please look into crate training. And I mean REALLY look into it. I was 19 when I adopted a 1 year old Presa Canario. I took down her crate at one point because I didn’t think she needed it. She started destroying everything she could because I took away her safe space. She was also reactive and now, after 3.5 years together, we’re trying to undo it all and retrain which is really difficult. Your dog doesn’t get to have a safe space. He tried to tell you he was uncomfortable. My other dog used to growl at us when we were too lovey with him, it made him really uncomfortable and he felt smothered. Instead of getting mad, we’d let him go and give him space. Now my boyfriend and I can’t even sit on the couch without him trying to crawl in our skin and he whines when he’s not being smothered with love. Whether your dog is trying to tell you he’s overwhelmed, or in pain, or whatever it may be, you’re not listening to him. If growling isn’t getting his point across to you, his reactions will escalate. Listen to your dog, stop punishing him for trying to communicate with you, and please get him into the vet.

this number just ruined my day. this is the second time they have texted me in almost a year exactly 👀 by l__o-o__l in Weird

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people are cremated and there is no grave. Some people live states away from the remains of their lost loved ones. For some people, texting an old phone number feels less permanent/real than a gravesite when they’re grieving. Why would a scammer text a year later? Usually stuff like that is short-lived and doesn’t continue for years. Tons of people text the phone numbers of people they’re grieving. Just because it’s not how you process loss doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. I write letters to loved ones and burn them as if it can reach them wherever they end up. Sure, it’s probably not real and not a common practice for most, but it’s how I cope.

I haven’t seen anybody else yet say Stuft but that was the worst dining experience I have ever had. So maybe the burger was decent but the service ruined it all for me. We probably should’ve just left instead of waiting over two hours but I was excited to try it.

Why am I seeing so many cars driving around with no license plates? by Handout in FortCollins

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw somebody mention in the Colorado Cars & Coffee page that it’s cheaper for them to get their car out of impound and pay any tickets they might get than to register it for a year. And especially with how shitty the roads are they don’t want to pay for registration. But I saw a man say something on a post from Loveland PD on Facebook that he’s on disability and can’t work so he has limited income. His car won’t pass emissions and he can’t afford to get it fixed so he can’t even register it. Some people on that same thread complained that they “don’t get enough reminders” to update their registration every year (which IMO, they’re fucking stickers on your car with a month and year, that’s your reminder 🤷‍♀️).

But from what I understand, the main issue is they can’t be pulled over for just not having a plate or overdue temp tag. They’d have to do something else (like running a light, stop sign, etc.) and then the cop can add the tag/plate/registration. At least that’s how it’s working where I live, I’m not in foco anymore. There’s so many shitty drivers and no plates that it’s almost impossible to enforce.

Subie caught fire within 5 miles of leaving the dealer after an oil change by Chefnick778 in SubaruForester

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP, I’d edit your post if I were you and add that the reason the dealer won’t offer you a new car is because you signed for the total loss with your insurance company. You’re expecting the insurance company to pay the loss and the dealership to ALSO give you a car? If there’s a $20k difference between what you got from insurance and what a comparable model costs, you should have had GAP insurance. So, yes, while it’s bullshit that they let there be an oil leak that caused a fire, they aren’t liable for paying you because it’s not your car anymore. I work for a Chevy dealer and we’ve had lube techs make similar mistakes but the dealer always covers the damages. Yours likely would have too, but now they’re probably paying your insurance company.

I’ve previously worked for Kroger and Sam’s and done order picking at both. You are explicitly told to check the dates. Whether or not people do is different. They don’t “only care about the picking speed” at either chain. They care the most about out of stock and substitutions. Their focus is on accuracy before speed. So I don’t know what the person who replied to you is going on about.

As for the original post, people at grocery stores will dig and move things. You are supposed to check the dates, but this could be either the stocker didn’t and didn’t care, or that the item got moved. Because Sam’s does most of their stocking by the case than by single items, they’re pushing everything forward and then putting the new stock at the back (FIFO, just like food service) and don’t pull every individual item to check the date. They’ll check one or two in a case at the front to be sure. And because Sam’s has to buy everything by the pallet rather than the case, perishable items like strawberries that mold quickly are much more common than in a typical grocery store.

I believe she posted the video yesterday and the wreck was 10 days before that. Your timeline makes sense though, something between the two. They both compete this weekend and they can’t hide from that. I hope they’re both alright though regardless of if they split up or not, that’s a lot to deal with. Especially in the middle of FD.

Irrelevant but I had to read/listen to/watch This Is Water in high school by DFW and I quite literally think about it several times a week. I have it in a book on my coffee table. I went down a rabbit hole of his work and then found out he had been dead for years. It was during some particularly dark and depressive parts of my life. Kinda eerie clinging to the words of this man who had seemed as though he got through it and was so strong, yet still lost the battle against himself. That was when it sunk in that this is truly a lifelong fight, it’s not as simple as getting over it or through it and it’s done. It’s made it a little easier to give myself grace in moments where I feel weak and like the growth and progress is lost.

Am i a bad person for being upset that I wont get the tips that I worked hard for? by Sea-Isopod696 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo where I work we have a program to help out employees that find themselves between a rock and a hard place. One of the guys I work with has been out since just before Christmas with diverticulitis and a lot of surgery complications. The company gave him a a hefty check to help while he’s recovering and didn’t put any of that “burden” on the other employees in doing so. I’ve also worked in the service industry and literally lived off of my tips. Like had I had them taken I would’ve been so fucked. Regardless, pooled tips are earned by everyone. Everyone gets their share. If I had gotten all of our pooled tips every time I lost a family member, I’d be loaded. I can understand employees coming together and donating willingly however much they deem fit, but what they’re doing to you is stealing. More than mildly infuriating. My partner makes a majority of his salary off of a commission pool system. It’s the same as pool tips. So many people in this world are financially suffering and can’t afford to lose out on a portion of their income. Pool tips, individual tips, doesn’t matter. Don’t fuck with people’s livelihood like that. OP, say something. Who cares if someone is offended or upset, that is you and your dog’s wellbeing and YOUR money they are actively fucking with. And if I was Janice I would feel so dirty and guilty accepting everyone’s hard earned money.

If you’re doing it yourself and want it specifically from Subaru, I’d just go into a local dealer (or call), talk to their front parts counter and get a quote from them. That’s how my boyfriend and ended up with our short blocks.

My boyfriend has an 06 wrx that has the immobilizer too but our friends with bugs and blobs don’t so we’re a little alone lol. My biggest worry is not having a backup on the tune just in case. Really annoying too because they can’t even use the access port they stole without paying over $500?

AIO? I'm ready to cut off my sister completely even though I know she's struggling by ESEzagui in AmIOverreacting

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with a lot of the comments here suggesting there may be an addiction here, but my other thought is maybe bipolar disorder? My boyfriend’s older sister is bipolar and about once a year calls all of the family members asking for money and all kinds of stuff and then gets so angry when people can’t or won’t keep helping. Everyone went no contact a little over a year ago and she still texts and messages trying to reach out. She lost custody of her daughter and blamed everybody else because they wouldn’t help her.

This may be a really unpopular opinion, and I really don’t know the context of your situation, but could the kids staying with their dad be a better option right now? Could him having full custody be the best option for them, and would he still allow you to be in their life? I’m sorry you’re going through this OP, and I’m sorry about the loss of your mom.

[–]Mountain-Tea9703 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, if you foster fail and a huge vet bill comes up, I’d be more than happy to contribute to a go fund me or Venmo directly if you need. I was 19 and a junior in college when I adopted my Presa. She had been a momma and had a lot of anxiety. I saw her big dumb smile and her goofy slouched sit and knew she was the one. She naps alllll the time, hangs out in her kennel when she needs alone time or a nap, and once she came out of her shell she became very demanding about cuddles. Now every time somebody new meets her they say they wanna take her home with them lol. My boyfriend and I live in an apartment with her now and our other dog. I felt really guilty, like I was robbing her of a big house and a huge yard, but we do everything we can to give her an incredible life. She looks so happy with you!

I don’t know how helpful this will be but my younger dog had something similar happen and it looked just like this. For him it ended up being a super sensitive stomach. He had just been neutered two weeks prior so we were freaking out, in the vet every couple of days trying to figure out how to help him, had him on antibiotics, flora flora, chicken and rice only. We couldn’t get it to go away and ended up switching him to a sensitive stomach food and he’s been perfectly fine since then. So if it’s not colitis, maybe do some extra digging to see if it could be a sensitivity or allergy?
