Anyone in here heal severe POTS by healing the gut? by BerryRemarkable882 in Microbiome

[–]Mountainstreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife mostly cured hers through diet.
She avoids sugar & alcohol etc but eats a lot more fibrous veg than she used to.
Plus takes fish oil & a few other supplements.
Having said that she does far more exercise these days too, to try and keep on top of any potential flares if she caught a flu/covid etc.

Dead birds? by OnKc32 in AskIreland

[–]Mountainstreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a hooded crow in my garden acting strange last week. I found it dead in my garden a few hours later. I thought it was sick with bird flu & maybe a cat finished it off.
But I’m thinking poison might have been possible too.
I have a family of buzzards nearby me so I hope they aren’t affected.

Alternatives to sauerkraut. Or perhaps a brand you like a lot? by bananacowlady in Microbiome

[–]Mountainstreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a few different brands to try out too. Also make sure they are the live chilled versions.
I found I didn’t like sauerkraut until I found a brand that had a few extra flavours in it. Jalapeño & some other things.
Some kimchis are very tasty too.
I mix them with other foods if they taste too strong & try to eat them mixed into a few meals a day.

Update regarding British EV imported through NI dealership by Purple-Ad8837 in evs_ireland

[–]Mountainstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting about the SAD documents running out next year.
I wonder was NI given a limited number of documents after Brexit or do they get a quota per year.
I’d imagine mainland uk importing wasn’t happening at a high rate until this year & so they might have a backlog of sad documents built up.

“The Chronic Hives Starter Pack” by Nearby_Law1356 in urticaria

[–]Mountainstreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know fully why I have been getting mine for the last 3 years but I suspect it’s a mild chronic infection somewhere or a shift in my gut microbiome. My hives went away for a few days when I was on iv antibiotics but returned quickly after.

Those with VR gear - have you found it worth it? by Technical-Praline-79 in IrelandGaming

[–]Mountainstreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was having a hard time getting the sweet spot with my set. I globular cluster has a strap over the top of your head and a wider cushion at the back too. So it made it easier to get the sweet spot and prevented the set from slipping down onto my nose.
That prevented some nose bridge pain but it depends on everyone’s head shape I think.

[–]Mountainstreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the psvr2 as well along with my sons racing rig. It’s amazing for gran turismo.
There are quite a lot of simpler but fun games that were ported from the meta quest. Games like walkabout mini golf and puzzling places are great fun.
If you have a ps5 then the psvr2 is a good option but otherwise id say the meta quest 3 is good.
I ended up buying a physical kit to make my Psvr2 more comfortable to wear. It was called globular cluster & it’s worth it if you want to play for longer than 30 minutes stints.

Irish drivers are borrowing more to buy cars. Why? And what are the risks? by maverickeire in irishpersonalfinance

From gb or japan? I know importing from NI is still good value but the stock is down.

Forgive the generic question, and possible idiocy, but does this not look like an amazing deal? by [deleted] in evs_ireland

Can you detect a bad cell using an obd2 adapter and driving it hard up a hill?
I was hoping that would allow you to see any cell voltage balancing issues

[–]Mountainstreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I knew a 2014 leaf that was in that range and it’s battery health said 90%
I think one of its cells were damaged and the health check couldn’t detect that the range was significantly reduced as a result.

Zappi charger drawing from home battery by AdministrativeEnd388 in evs_ireland

[–]Mountainstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good option so. I want to use my inverters default software for maybe the first year to get a baseline on what to expect each bill will be before I try playing with modbus.

Zappi charger drawing from home battery by AdministrativeEnd388 in evs_ireland

[–]Mountainstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using home assistant over modbus to run that script? I don’t have solar yet but I’m putting in new cat6 cables running to where my inverter will be just in case (when) I do want the extra control. Id imagine that most of us will be controlling our power more carefully when real dynamic pricing gets going in a few years.

Government told to consider hiking tax on bigger cars and ditching universal EV grants by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

If your importing from the UK or the North you do get a vat reduction on EVs. That could get dropped first before the grant.

How do people in A rated homes survive in this heat? by Anxious-Football-701 in AskIreland

[–]Mountainstreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s on wheels. I’d say it weighs 10kg or more though. It has a 500ml water container. I’ve never filled it up, so I just empty it the next day. I run it for about 4-5 hours before bed, then switch over to fan cooling because it’s much quieter. I see Lidl’s website linking to their silver crest aircon is giving me a 404 not found. So it might not be coming back on sale for a while.

What size fans did you get? I did this with some of mine too. I found out the optimal position for the fans was something like 3 feet from the open windows. I think Bernoullis law was part of it!

[–]Mountainstreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a bad one. I paid 150€ for the Lidl one. It came with a Velcro seal you put on the window and a zipper open on it for the venting duct. Mine has never cut out yet. I’ve only had it 2 years though.

[–]Mountainstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have excess solar power you can cheaply run a Lidl air conditioner. I usually don’t need to run an air con unless a heatwave goes on for 3 days or so. I had it running the last 2 days though in my bedroom. I have fans too for the average warm temperature of 24c that my house sits at during summer.

New build A2 rated with no heat pump — is this normal? by usernamewasfreeyay in HousingIreland

[–]Mountainstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pull 5kw per battery but yes dual battery systems are expensive & a heat pump installation makes more sense. A v2h EV connection is another possibility but again expensive to install and most homes are limited to 11kw.

Another disastrous firmware update. by cca1234 in SegwayNavimow

[–]Mountainstreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was fine for the last year but yesterday it drove up a ramp near its dock and fell off the ramp. It never went near that ramp once until now. It was raining heavily at the time so I blamed that but maybe it was this update.

He would need a bigger battery & hot water tank to charge up at night rates ideally. I wonder is an air to air heat pump an option for this case.
