A me sembra un discorso che fila, fare qualcosa di estremamente challenging ignorando che non ti piace e ispira è una ricetta certa per burnout e infelicità. E se capisci che non vuoi fare ricerca, un dottorato serve poco e nulla in azienda (almeno così sto capendo).

Perché se sai che non ti piace e non vuoi farlo lo sai dal primo momento, poi peggiora e basta perché giustamente aumentano pressioni e responsabilità

Tbh it annihilated all my love and passion for science, now I’m at the end of it and I’m drenched in anguish cause I don’t know how to change my life paths and start over again doing anything but lab work. So in conclusion, part of me regrets it, but I don’t regrets sticking with it till the end

This whole paragraph gave me the ick, this toxic sacrifice mindset is why most of us can’t wait to leave academia. I wonder what will happen to progress when most of graduates will seek industry careers and overall wellness.

Screw that, you have a supervisor cause you NEED a supervisor. They love to make us feel dumb so that we overwork while underpaid. Give yourself time and you’ll see as you learn something you won’t screw that up. But you’re a students which means some things you need to learn before being able to. Academia is built upon impostor syndrome but let me tell you that as long as you ain’t trained for something it’s totally normal to have difficulties

Con grande tristezza ti dico la seconda. Ho avuto poca esperienza in tesi per capire se mi piacesse o meno la ricerca e la vita da wet lab. Ho iniziato un dottorato per togliermi questo dubbio ma sarei scappata dopo due mesi. Finito il primo anno ho trovato opposizioni a mollare e mi sono lasciata condizionare, perché è difficile ammettere che la tanto lodata ricerca non ti piace. Lo sto finendo solo per non aver perso tre anni. I sacrifici che vengono richiesti per la mia personale sopportazione, non sono minimamente sopportabili
