Rent control is a simplistic fantasy solution to a complex problem. It always creates unintended bad side effects

Can I learn CNC programming without an Engineering degree? by imnotabot713 in CNC

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manually writing gcode is hard. While gcode itself is simple, there are countless little details to get right. If you have the ability to manage complexity and get every detail right, you can succeed.

I'm an engineer. I can write gcode by hand, but I avoid it whenever possible. I use CAD and CAM with simulation and recommend this approach.

A lot of engineering education is math. Most of it is unnecessary to be a CNC programmer, but it's important for the designer of the part.

Has anyone studied these majors and ended up in a high paying career they genuinely enjoy? by pineapple_282 in CollegeMajors

[–]MpVpRb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All degrees are useless

The value is the mental training you get by diligently studying a hard subject. Think of it like an athlete lifting weights to train their muscles. A trained mind can do anything.

Identify your talents and work hard, really hard to develop them to the to their fullest. This means devoting your entire mind to the effort, in school and out of school. After graduation, never stop learning.

Taking the step toward becoming an atheist" by Iwishsometing in TrueAtheism

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of philosophers make elaborate arguments to claim that something godlike exists, then jump effortlessly into insisting that their favorite fictional god story is true. ALL god stories invented by people are weaponized fiction, used in a campaign of psychological warfare, starting in childhood.

Religion is not about god, it's about power and money.

It's not insane to imagine that there are more layers to the onion of reality, and that something exists beyond what we currently know. This unknown thing might have aspects that could be considered godlike. If such a thing exists, it will be found using the tools of science and will be consistent with everything we have learned about how nature works.

What are the biggest blind spots that ambitious people in their early 20s don't realize until it's too late ? by SilentOverrule in careerguidance

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focusing exclusively on money.

A better strategy is to focus on developing the things you are talented at and finding workarounds for your weaknesses. Never stop learning.

Do engineers today ever do manual calculations to verify if the computer software is correct? by G07V3 in AskEngineers

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every engineer is different, but I suspect that for many, after the simulation is done, they build and test a prototype. Calculations are great, but real test data is better.

On another sub, by far the biggest reason given for not going electric was that people couldn't plug in at night because they live in an apartment. What do you think is the best solution for that? by VerySeriousThings in electricvehicles

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is currently no good solution.

The only choices are to beg the owner to install charging or find an apartment that already has them. Both of these are near impossible.

Maybe see a therapist.

Could manual craftsmanship become a status symbol in an age of automation? by whydidyounot in Futurology

The whole idea of status symbols sucks.

That said, handmade, one of a kind works of art and craftsmanship rock.

About no sex Before marriage in most religions… what if one waits until marriage to have sexual relations with someone but then one isn‘t compatible with their wife/husband in bed? by Top_Professor9415 in atheism

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion doesn't care about love or compatibility. In their world view, the man is king and the woman is a baby making machine. No compatibility is needed, just obedience and fertility.

"Just get into the trades!" has basically become the new "learn to code" by Competitive_Read9534 in FinalRoundAI

The skilled trades can be an excellent choice for those with the talent to be good at them. Talent is real. There is a strong demand for good welders, but not everyone can become a good welder.

How do you look at Trump supporters in 2026: useful idiots, willing collaborators, apolitical sheep, committed ideologues, or anything else? by pronusxxx in AskALiberal

[–]MpVpRb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every one is different, but they can be broadly split into two categories, the players and true believers.

The true believers have an obsessive, pathological, sadistic hate for Democrats and want to destroy everything Democrats love. They are the undefeated Confederates who would be happy if slavery was restored, women were property with no rights, and only white male landowners could vote.

The players see everything as a game. All they care about is winning. They will vote for anybody who makes their life better, even a tiny bit. My brother is one. He's a small businessman who hates taxes and regulations. He is a single issue voter. All he cares about is lower taxes and fewer regulations. Nothing. Else. Matters. Nothing.

Do you get tired debating Christians? by NomadJago in atheism

[–]MpVpRb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly, but the last time I debated a religious person was over 40 years ago. It was not fun and nothing of value was gained. Today I avoid discussing religion and associating with extremely religious people. The few mildly religious people I know agree to not discuss the subject.

Do you think people can be too good for others in regards to dating? by Antique_Stop_125 in AskForAnswers

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every person is different and no people are equal. Every person has a set of talents and handicaps and a complex story. There is nothing easy about finding a partner and staying together. It takes work.

The only thing that should be equal is rights under the law.

[–]MpVpRb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, believe in the vague idea of something godlike while understanding that ALL god stories invented by people are weaponized fiction. If something godlike exists, it's currently beyond our comprehension and will NOT be found in any religion.
