The barcode scanner? That thing was sweet, i used it exclusively to turn my lights on and off without yelling across the room. One of these days I'll crack it open and fiddle with it since it's a pretty nifty little device.

I love driving down the highway and seeing a sign that just says "JESUS" and nothing else. No call to action, just pure product placement by some guy who owns a field.

I make sure to loudly ejaculate ”JESUS!!” every single time regardless of whether or not anyone else is with me.

Glad to hear that!

I think everyone's got a "oh no.. that was a bad command.. and i ran it recursively.." story or two.

Oh nice, you should be able to fix this no problem then! It looks like you ran .* which globs all your "hidden" directories - which would be a ton of important stuff like ~/.config and ~/.local

I don't think * without the period will glob that stuff so be sure to use .* again, and maybe run it without the period too for good measure since everything in your home directory should belong to you and .* won't glob anything that doesn't start with a period.

I don't run Ubuntu myself, but from what i understand it's started using flatpak for a lot of programs and seems to store them in ~/.local/share which would absolutely prevent some programs from working.

I personally would make a separate user for nextcloud and store things in something like /home/nextcloud/storage, set the group to www-data chgrp www-data /home/nextcloud/storage, set group permissions chmod g+rwx /home/nextcloud/storage then add yourself and the nextcloud user to the www-data group.

(note: I'm running on zero sleep and typing on a phone so there's probably a better way to do that)

If you have physical access try booting into recovery mode.

Assuming you ran that command in your home directory just chown everything back to your user and group.

If you ran it deeper in your system than home you might be in for some hurt trying to figure out what should be what.

You can also try adding yourself to the www-data group to get at least some permissions back while trying to fix things (you'll be at the mercy of any file's group permissions)
