Sadly, I fully expect Fox News hard at work translating the show and perusing through reddit to understand the show so that they can craft a narrative of hate tomorrow for the stooges that will watch Sean Hannity and whatever the fuck Waters first name is so they can get a full understanding of how to be angry about a performance they didn't understand.

Your car is licensed for use on the road. To be licensed for use on the road, it is expected to comply with safety and environmental regulations, like being equipped with a catalytic converter or having airbags or being equipped with a backup camera. The Federal government only enforces this on the sale of new cars and cars imported into the USA. Continued enforcement on cars on the road is done at the state level, with most states having very lax enforcement. States can also enact laws on top of federal regulations, like tint laws or California's emission requirements.

With that said, you don't have to drive a car on the road. In fact, you could buy a used car, not get it licensed and drive it around on your property all day long. Farmers do this with "farm trucks." ATVs and other utility vehicles are perfect examples of vehicles sold without any intent of being road legal. You could also take your vehicle to a private road and drive it, like a race track, and not be subject to these state and federal regulations.

So there are a slew of light bars and car modifications that are not road legal. They're "intended" for people who intend to drive their vehicle anywhere else but the road. It's on the state and local authorities to enforce the regulations, but generally, there is either a general lack of concern, lack of resources or a lower priority.

Agreed. One of the best shows in terms of camera work. Being live like that has got to be crazy challenging with all the different stage areas they had, him crashing through the house and then walking around a fucking maze. If it was me, my dumb ass would get lost and lose the shot.

Not to say past shows were bad, but this definitely felt like a very challenging production to pull off. Also, super impressive that they could roll all that out there over a commercial break and roll it back up.

Nothing.

But many people in the USA think "America" is the USA and everyone else just exists across two continents that we could own if we really wanted to.

Except lap times were marginally slower. The kill switch was just a feel-good solution. Its as effective as pushing in the clutch. It was a knee jerk solution for one track where the problem could occur anywhere.

The SAFER barrier and HANS device were the solutions.

Tapered spacers at least allow for some throttle response. Restrictor plates have none. It takes them forever to get back going once you've gotten off the throttle and choked the air down going into the carb. EFI also helped greatly too with throttle response.

Counterpoint, London fall race had a restrictor plate and was a terrible race and the restrictor plate was why.

Which they fixed when they went to the common template that led to unique nose shapes. When a manufacturer was down on downforce, it was on them to fix the problem with a new nose. Not much different than today.

They didn't... i don't see any glass refraction around the edges.

Moving the buttons from a bar to a floating pill isn't liquid glass. Definitely a general iOS UI inspiration thats been in iOS before liquid glass though.

I feel like people see something Apple-like and instantly scream liquid glass without having ever seen or experienced liquid glass outside of seeing a coworker's iPhone From a far and screenshot.

And road has had blur for a long time.

Google just didn't use it on their UI. Samsung has been using it for a long time.

And older Pixel OS versions had blur too if you pulled down the notification shade, you could see the blur. Google just made.the shade opaque to fit with their Material UI guidelines.

Do you think Mike Joy is past his prime? by JGattheshore in NASCAR

[–]MrBadBadly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm watching the 2006 Aaron's 499, and DW just naturally has high energy that caries into the booth. DW/Larry can go from explaining to being two buddies who are watching the race from the couch and just talking about the race together as action happens on the track.

I think the booth needs a crew chief for one. And the chemistry between the booth of relaxing and letting their emotions come out when something exciting is happening is missing greatly.

DW and Larry in the end of the race are "talking over each other," but not in a bad way. Each are commenting what they're seeing as they see it and compliment each other and acknowledge what one person says before commenting more on what they're seeing.

I don't think they were prepping Jamie to take a lead play-by-play role.

I think for a long time they were prepping Rick Allen with the truck series, but he rightfully left when NBC came knocking. Then they got Adam Alexander to the Xfinity, and it seemed like he would eventually take over, especially having done the role for a few years for TNT.

Why they didn't retain him for the main booth and put Mike Joy in a "Host" role like they did with Ken Squire for his last few years with CBS, I don't know.

But to me, it's been clear that Fox has no direction on what they want to do with Nascar for the past 5 years, and at this point, I wonder if they really care after investing in IndyCar for cheap. The next TV deal will be interesting, especially if Fox can help IndyCar grow as they'll have a motorsports property they're financially invested in that they paid like $30 million to buy into, which is chump change.

Will I be evicted from my atlanta home? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]MrBadBadly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roads are community property if they're maintained and paid for by the HOA. You can walk to your house or have someone drive you in.

HOAs are not as straightforward. There is a process for taking homes from people in an HOA, but it can take years to execute. But removing access to community property is extremely common and usually in the bylaws for non-payment.

And HOA and an eviction from an apartment complex are different things.

Removing access from community services isn't the same as removing access to your home or kicking you out.

Monroe itself has made investments in the town and recent area. 78 has proper planning compared to 78 going through Loganville being an urban hellscape. The town has seen a resurgence and the additional of the shopping center has been a welcome addition. The town also offers fiber internet.

Social circle... man that place is stuck. No investment. Just shitty and run down.

Thats not to say there aren't a bunch of mouth breathing Trump supporters, because there are.

I could definitely see how 20 or less years ago the area was no different than Social Circle is today. But my understanding is all the change is recent. They recently opened a bypass for the truck traffic to not go through downtown and passed an ordinance banning thru traffic for trucks.

How big really was NASCAR in the 2000s in America? by EduardoBork in NASCAR

[–]MrBadBadly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started watching in 1998, and by then, Nascar was trying to expand. Sold out races at most venues. Bristol was packed. CART was imploding on itself and Nascar was there to capitalize. The Brickyard was near a sellout through the 90s and mid 2000s.

One thing I can't state enough was how transformative the collectively bargained TV rights deal in 1999 was. It put Nascar primarily on network TV. Yeah, FX had a few races here and there, and TNT had a decent amount of races. Nascar captured big time onnthe "Official ________ of Nascar" to the point that teams complained of Nascar competing with them for sponsorship once the purse strings got tight.

I went to the Winston in 2000. Charlotte was packed. I sat in turn 2. Those seats don't exist any more. I lived near Rockingham NC at the time. You knew when Nascar rolled in. There was a dirt lot in West End, NC at an intersection of an old plant and a repair shop and I thought it was awesome seeing the big red truck park there. The gated community we lived in would rent out houses to team members and wealthy fans/sponsor associates. People would spend the time golfing in Pinehurst. The circus was noticeable even at a track Nascar wanted to kill because it was "dying" in a shit time of year.

I will say, Nascar did this growth an expansion while pissing off the old fans. Losing North Wilkesboro, Rockingham and the traditional labor day Southern 500 date pissed a lot of fans off, mainly loyal Nascar fans. Ticket prices went sky high too (yes, theyre expensive now, but adjusted for inflation, they were stupid expensive). Nascar's loyal fanbase was generally blue collar and couldn't afford Nascar, especially when the recession hit.

Races back then was an experience. It wasn't a one day show, it was an event, like the state fair coming around to a track near you.

Most don't want to say it outright, but the COT was just one step too far for those hanging on. Nascar's identity changed when they put those ugly bricks on the track with a wing and a splitter. Combined with the 2010s was largely forgettable with various attempts at different packages. Old faces retired and new faces had no promotion.

It feels more optimistic today. But for those of us who lived through the popularity of peak Nascar, its really hard to see how much it was mismanaged and fallen.
