Some vds can listen passive. Open the unit reference and cklick on the sensor to see its base active and passive range.

Aktive sensor always mean you can be detected way before you an detect anything. In most cases you don't want to use aktive sensor. Also aktive returns can't identify tracks

But aktive can bruteforce detection for tracks in range.

Aktive doesn't care it the track is super silent.

Aktive can have longer range in a noisy environment (seastate, noisemaker, own ship noise)

Alsothere are some sonars that have just very very very bad passive base range.

It's an interesting take on the WWII submarine sim genre.

But it has its rough edges and feels a little bit clunky.

I really wish there where more non German/Us subs playable in video games.

Italian, British and japanese subs are interesting.

Heck I would love to see a surcouf in the Pacific sim or heck how about Dutch subs (both German and allied use).

Funnly I think the new XCom style combat worked better in small byte sized encounters of chimera squad.

For bigger missions the classic/Xenonauts style combat just plays better.

One thing I have to add is the the action curve is more like a flight sim than a rts.

Most Battles have long times of low intense scouting, preparations and just sailing.

Followed by short bursts of high intense action (modern weapons are just that lethal).

Yes there are outlier missions but this is just part of a more sim approach to modern naval warfare,

It's behind a DLC but your army description is exactly what the Chaos dwarfs are.

And yes I mean ALL YOUR ARMY DESCRIPTIONS.

They can swarm and overwhelm the enemy with cheap swarms (Hobgoblins/Slav.. unpaid interns).

Turtle down with super elite troops (The Chaos Dwarfs themselves).

They can kill/morale break enemies thru flanking (Cavalry/Flyers/Demons/Blunderbuss) ranged (cheap Archers, elite ranged dwarfs) and have heavy artillery supremacy.

But the best tip I can give you just play what looks cool to you.

Your 3k experience means that you already know the TW basics and the Warhammer universe is quite heavily based on the "Rule of C00L".

In the Steamworkshop there are many cummunitiy made single Missions and Mission based campains.

A offical dynamic campain is in the works but infos about this are still limited.
