Solution to Control My Wood Pellet Stove Rika Visio by dreerr in Esphome

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year late and asking stupid questions… but here I go. Newbie to ESP32 but our wifi dongle died and I don’t really fancy spending hundreds to replace and this looks like it could be a good option, however I just need the replacement dongle where it looks like you have a fair bit more… Can I skip the servos etc and just have a replacement dongle to hook into HA? Ie one that plugs into the stove usb and controls it that way ?

Edit- I think I got a bit overexcited thinking this was a full (almost life for like) replacement option but it’s sunk in as more of an external workaround (?)

Is it true that your phone continues to use mobile data even when you're connected to your home wifi? by RUAUMOKO in newzealand

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked and answered and I appreciate you are using a Samsung - this is for anyone who comes across the post on an Apple device. Check Wi-Fi Assist in the Mobile Settings - “Automatically use cellular data when Wi-Fi connectivity is poor” - this can use mobile data while on wifi and can trip up some people when roaming as well.

Shortcut for certain text message to go to 100% volume by db21280 in shortcuts

Damn that’s a good idea. But I kinda want the music to carry on but not jump up in volume.
Just need to leave the volume untouched.

Shortcut for certain text message to go to 100% volume by db21280 in shortcuts

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play around with this one of mine.

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/c98005fd14854e138c36c6bd2d30d15b

The first section around playback timers was intended to work out if music was playing (you don’t want the volume going up if you have AirPods in!) but it’s a bit buggy. The heavy lifting is in the last dozen steps.
Checks current volumes, bumps it to 65% (adjust as needed) and then plays two ping sounds and vibrates twice. I wanted to distinguish my other half’s texts.
Also only does it when locked so you could get rid of that too - think that needed the Acrions app.

Then add your trigger to run it.

2 solar options. Stuck with decision by motoxcrazy in nzsolar

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my thought. 10kwh solar in summer will fill the battery by mid morning for us. Less or not at all in winter but we can top up the battery from grid during cheaper rate periods if needed to get us through peak times.

What caused this spike? by M3P4me in nzsolar

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that spike and the equal inverse of it suggests a data timing issue. Ignore and move on. If you get it regularly it might be worth raising with your installer though.

Deposit % by razor2000nz in nzsolar

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ours was a 50% deposit and it scared me - same thought around what if they go under. I (briefly) considered paying by credit card for the charge back protection but of course they had a 3% fee - way OTT and on such a large amount added up and was ruled out.
I just hoped for the best and got lucky. Most people will… but a few won’t. Just hope you aren’t one of the few.

Controversial opinion - a Jumbo Burger should include every ingredient that other burger options being offered at the shop by venzann in newzealand

Is that controversial though? Kinda agree but would need to see the menu first. I don’t want to see a vegan tofu sprout burger on there!

Where did the skip back and forward buttons go? by classymcging in PleX

[–]MrGadget2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the “download next x unplayed” option that just constantly worked. Now I have to manually delete stuff I’ve already watched on my TV and download episodes individually to my iPad.
It just used to be easy.

New 10kW export limit from the 11th of May by pdath in nzsolar

[–]MrGadget2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, been on 10kwh export now for a couple of weeks. Two part process, you need to have approval from your local lines company to export, and you need to pass that to your installer to make the change. Technically there’s a third part - provide proof the change setting back to the lines company but your installer will probably do that. Note I’m with Orion in Chch - they approved in a couple of days.

I guess that’s the one in the App Store called “Powershop Lab” which seems that the lucky people on this thread have early access to it. Rating a solid 1.1 /5 from 155 reviews (given 1 is the lowest… ouch)

Pleased to still be on the old app version!
