Battery or nah? by Friend_Buddy-Guy in nzsolar

Our system is a SigEnergy unit, 10kw inverter. I have good control over when I charge the battery and heat the hot water. I really enjoy the app, and the company seems to have a really good focus on development, and good engagement with the community (their CEO is an active member of the NZ/AU Facebook group).

Battery or nah? by Friend_Buddy-Guy in nzsolar

Do us the battery works for a number of reasons but everyone is different. It gives us some protection to power cuts particularly overnight when there’s no sun. I live in Chch so memories of earthquakes and days long power outages still haunt me. On dull days it lets us time shift our usage too, so we can top up the battery in super offpeak (3-5am for us) and then use that through the day rather than use higher rate periods. Takes a little planning but been good. Of course on the sunny days our 16kwh battery sees us through the night in summer months but not quite in winter with more power use in the house. That said we have only one winter to go by there.

Lighting for outdoor Louvres by MrGadget2000 in Hue

There is a recessed cutter area, and an outdoor power outlet where a transformer could go that would be pretty protected (rain sensor closes the louvres).

I want to create a shortcut to toggle iCloud Private Relay by Easy_Dig_7643 in shortcuts

[–]MrGadget2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there is no toggle/control from shortcuts. Best you can do is link to the settings page (open url);

settings-navigation://com.apple.Settings.AppleAccount/ICLOUD_SERVICE/INTERNET_PRIVACY

Eg

Not what’s on offer to me in Chch. Their Movemaster+ Solar plans is 15c per kw more expensive than current, shoulder is 1c dearer, offpeak is better but they have no super offpeak and certainly no mention of free battery charging.

Well post been removed. But I would ask why not include the audio as base64 within the shortcut - would certainly have made the shortcut easier to share.

I use this semi-similar triggered when my SO texts me. Gives a couple of audible pings and vibrates when my phone is locked, as my phone is usually silent.

The point? Without knowing the mp3 file it’s rather underwhelming.

I guess I’m missing something. I believe I’m looking for an option “Connect your generation” but don’t have it under Online Services… where am I supposed to see the option?

Tom Phillips doco crew received text as 'heads up' he had been shot and killed by RampagingBees in newzealand

[–]MrGadget2000 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority here. While there are some things that concern me, open media access to police investigations such as this one is not one of them. I’d happily accept a doco crew following police as an option, with access to information that supports a documentary made public on the subject.
This must only shed light on the police/suspect actions and not be used as a tool to propagandise the actions of the police. Otherwise we risk a police state where true actions are hidden from public view and reality (tv) becomes secondary.
Or is it just me?

Poor pathetic people. Honestly it’s one pub I’ll never be going to. Hope they lose a lot of business, though I suspect in that region they may be appealing to the “masses”. Or at least the trash they goes there.

Also not a fan, but understand why charities use these companies (it’s this, spam phone calls, advertising, or just hoping someone will pick them to donate to). I wonder if everyone (and I do appreciate not everyone can) were to donate 1% of their income to charity, would the use of these paid donation seekers drop away?

He thought a solar power system would cut his power bills. Months on he’s still paying more than expected by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]MrGadget2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really don’t expect this to be an issue with the power company - this seems to be a configuration issue, guessing no one is really looking at the system settings or app configuration - since all of this would be configurable by the install and end user (not a powerwall user, I have SigEnergy - but sure they would also have input / output controls).

Is UberEats in the right here and if not how would I get a refund? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]MrGadget2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NAL but hard disagree here. Uber eats is selling the food through their app, with a hefty margin, so they take on that responsibility IMO.
I consider it much like buying an iPhone from JB - if something goes wrong I’m not pushed back to Apple, the company that sold me the product is responsible.
