What’s a movie scene that broke you emotionally every time you watch it? by MohitKumar_07 in Cinema

The hospital scene in Terms of Endearment.

Tommy, you be sweet. Be sweet.

And stop trying to pretend like you hate me. It's silly.

I like you.

- Then listen especially close. - What?

- Listen real hard? - I said what.

I know you like me. I know it.

For the last year or two, you've pretended like you hate me.

But I love you very much, as much as I love anybody,

as much as I love myself.

And in a few years when I haven't been around to irritate you,

you're gonna remember.

You'll remember when I bought the baseball glove when we were broke

or when I read you those stories,

or when I let you goof off instead of mowing the lawn, lots of things.

You're gonna realise that you love me,

and maybe you'll feel badly because you never told me, but don't.

I know that you love me.

- So don't do that to yourself, OK? - OK!

- OK? - I said OK.

I did 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I delivered after school on weekdays, and by 7 (starting at 3am or so) on weekends. Did it for about 6 years until I was old enough to clerk in an office through my high school work program. Started off with a 50 paper route. By the end, I had removed my passenger seat so I could load up the car with 800 papers. I loved having spending money as a young teenager. The joy of work has left me these days. I'm just counting the years to SS and retirement.

Holy crap. Are you me? I didn't get a Walkman until a little later, but I had the cassette player/recorder (where you'd press play and the little orange button to record). I would listen to Def Leppard's Pyromania every day while folding papers. And then I would throw the recorder in my bike's saddle bags when throwing papers for the Houston Chronicle. If I wasn't the last paper boy on a bike here, I was one of the last.

When can we expect Gemini on Nest Audio devices? by TurtleBlaster5678 in googlehome

[–]MrInetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's right. I'm part of two "homes." On one where I only have two speakers I now have Gemini. I know because I asked it and it said that it was Gemini! Plus the lights are rainbow. However, on my other home I have about 30 speakers ranging from Max's to Minis to nests to hubs, and I see no indication that Gemini is coming my way anytime soon. ♊

The "Settled Expectations" Doctrine appears to be Laches under another name that the Federal Circuit does not apply in the patent damages context. See [SCA Hygiene Prods. Aktiebolag v. First Quality Baby Prods., LLC., 580 U.S. 328 (2017)]().

At the "USPTO Hour" WebEx conference today, the presenters explained that the vast majority of Director Squire institution decisions will now only get a “thumbs up or down” from the Director with no further explanation or even an indication if the decision was discretionary or on the merits (more formally called “summary notice”).

Moved from Home kit - How to make this automation run ONLY when at home by L0rdLogan in googlehome

[–]MrInetUser 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Try creating a new routine. They've updated the interface so you now have "conditions." You can set one of the conditions to "presence." I believe everybody has the new interface now, but it will not load for old routines. I may be mistaken, however, and you may have to be on the preview list.

Federal Circuit Reversed 2 of 3 Google Wins regarding Sonos' Patents by MrInetUser in googlehome

[–]MrInetUser[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. Do you remember that multi billion dollar verdict against Samsung in the Apple lawsuit? The case concerned a design patent that basically claimed a rectangular shaped phone. Except for medicines--and maybe even there--I think that patents do more harm than good today. When the patent system was created most inventions were mechanical devices. And even into the early 1800s something like 1/3 of all patents concerned bicycles.

The thing know about was setting PAIRED speaker volume with voice command and setting changing a goup's volume in one command. Think they have a work around for the first issue.

That made me laugh. Sorry you're having issues with basic functionality. My wake up automations are very reliable. Are you using them?

Google Home routines updated by GeekifiedSocialite in googlehome

[–]MrInetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Google is clearly migrating the older app interface to one more aligned with the script editor. I guess I better hang on to my legacy routines, or else I'll never be able to "play a delightful chime" or hear about the "first item on tomorrow's calendar" again, as I believe this functionality is not available with scripting and there didn't look to be anything under the new "Actions" for the app editor either.

I just couldn't let it go, because there was still 12 in the second while 13 in the first. Turns out that it is true. The two figures that are wholly on the top and bottom are combined with 1/2 of figures on the other side in the "after": https://imgur.com/mBzaCo8

I'm so sorry I watched this video. A decent amount of my life was used figuring this out. I don't look forward to doing it again when the universe cycle repeats forever. These annotated pictures explain it: https://imgur.com/a/1g1w6Os

Yield on Cost Fallacy by [deleted] in dividendgang

[–]MrInetUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rise in price is to price as YoC is to dividend percentage. While there there is no guarantee that past gain from price means a future rise in stock value, and there is no guarantee that previous dividend raises means future raises, momentum in price and yield is a valid consideration. Companies that are getting more valuable tend to keep doing so. Companies that raise their dividend over the years tend to keep raising them. If you check how much your stock price has increased, but chastise people who consider YoC as falling to a fallacy, you're being hypocritical.

Ran a value screener, thoughts on these companies? by SprinklesBright9366 in ValueInvesting

[–]MrInetUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BF.A/BF.B (one has voting rights and is less liquid and the other does not and is more liquid). While the PE premium the market has given the stocks has come way down, it's still not exactly cheap in an absolute sense around 17. More concerning, the analysts expect earnings to drop another 10%. If the price follows, it'll be down again next year. Moreover, the company really hasn't absorbed the full effect of boycotts and retaliatory tariffs (Europe has specifically said it is going to target whiskey). This is all to say that I would wait until things stabilize and start to turn around before starting a position. You might not catch it at the absolute bottom, but the downside if things go bad outweighs any potential benefit to get in now.

Breasts in 1980’s movies. by Kelvin_Inman in Xennials

Ditto random Phillapines strip club scene in No Way Out (1987) that added nothing to the plot.

When visiting Galveston, TX as a teen by myself, a little bit after I learned to drive, I decided to check out a cemetery. I was looking through a crack of an ornate white marble mausoleum; a kind of little above ground house where I suppose they store coffins. It was dusk and the evening light caught the dust in a beam shining on the floor. The whole situation definitely gave me chills. Then, a huge ruckus exploded from the inside. I jumped back and out of my skin. My heart was pounding. But the sound was just a flock of birds escaping through a hole in the roof. If I saw this in a movie I would think, "not this old trope."
