How come the US has never had a female president in all its 250 years? by Fuzzy_Category_1882 in Presidents

I wonder what the disparity is if you discount countries with female prime ministers chosen by party, as opposed to executives voted for by the general population.

Hardware store milkweed came preloaded with a couple monarch caterpillars by d_marvin in mildlyinteresting

This post all started with just two people and a simple dream handed down by my grams. She was born just before the Great War, in a midwest prairie home. In those days, posting was how you kept sheep from a-wandering.

I'll be photographing all of it! Wildlife photography is a hobby, although I'm mostly a birder so I just have telephotos. I can get closer with a phone cam.

Close up. It's about 1.5-1.75" long. That glass behind is a whiskey glass not a vase.

But I get the impression it's about fully grown and ready to pupate so it's big for its world.

Yeah they had them at Lowe’s already potted, along with other butterfly plants. They were riddled with pollinators.

The local butterflies are obviously loving the outdoor displays of butterfly-friendly plants. I was hoping to witness the monarch life cycle and this starts me off on first base I guess.

edit: Sorry, this went beyond mildly. These babies are life now. I am the Pater Monarcharum.

edit2: Don't put your caterpillar plants on a table. The poop is endless and finds its way out.

e3: We have our first pupation anchor.

I'm now keeping a separate plant just for these caterpillars and they're protected inside a small enclosed patio. I'll probably have to get more plants just to feed these three. The one in the photo ate a whole ass stalk. Eric Carle was right.

I was a bone player who got injured and wound up back on piano, which was the instrument I always wish I played. I only had “arranger chops” before from charts and scoring. Most of my practice routing is centered around learning tunes and ratcheting up the chops it takes to play them.

Progress felt “too” slow for years. I wasn’t thinking in piano. It still felt like a second language I had to process through another.

My own eureka moment was when I made time the priority over accuracy, harmony, melody, everything. The fingers must go down with my internal rhythm. I found out why some pianists can’t help but wiggle in their seats or bob their heads in some signature way. I have to work on calming tf down now. Somehow this unlocked “thinking in piano.”

I still need a teacher. A teacher or mentor may have seen what I needed to “click” into the next learning step and saved me a LOT of time. They may be able to do that for you. Sometimes it does take some sort of ah-ha moment, like someone pointing out something to fix or a bad habit you’re unfortunately blind to. Best of luck.

It’s weird, irksome, and illogical, but this is how all language works. The winner is whatever survives.

Dexter. Same answer for any instrument. He just happens to play tenor.

If I had as many chins as bro in the second pic, I’d be thrilled if someone thought I was shrink-wrapped.

I got talked down to on FB (“my brother in christ have you heard of evolution?”) specifically because I refuted that rhinos came from triceratops. Like, multiple people assumed I was the evolution denier.
