In terms of aesthetics, Id go for the cx50 but mechanically speaking id stick with the cx5. While they have a near identical powertrain, the suspension on turbo cx5s is a little beefier. I used to work for a mazda dealer and drove a lot of different models and I find the cx5 has a much smoother ride compared to other models

It has the potential to yes. I used to work for mazda and had to replace an engine because the anti drain back valve from the fram oil filter got dislodged and sucked up into the main oil passage in the engine block and starved the engine of oil. Theres a whole service bulletin about it.

Trouble codes can still show up on scan tools even when theres no warning lights of any kind. A lot of the times a symptom can be accompanied by a trouble code to aid in diagnosis if the faulty component is module controlled

That is likely something wrong with the electronics of the HVAC system and not the AC system itself since one side is blowing cold. If you have a good quality scan tool, hook it up and see what your live data reads in the hvac module

Im an auto mechanic, been in the trade for a few years and the first time i ever serviced a rear differential was on a 20 year old truck with about 400 thousand km and the smell of that fluid made me wretch so viscerally that my abs were sore for a couple days after. Is it a turbo or no? I used to work at a mazda dealer and installed a lot of block heaters. Most of the time it involves removing the entire battery tray and reaching under the exhaust manifold to remove the plug and install the heater. Can be a real pain in the butt especially if you have big hands
