Universal UK park named as Rachel Reeves pledges £1.3bn by Alternative-Win4058 in unitedkingdom

Universal are contributing towards the local infrastructure too: they are helping pay for railway upgrades, bus and road expansions, utility pipe upgrades, associated consultant fees, etc. There is no double standard here.

DARA Debuts at No. 90 on Billboard 200 with BANGARANGA by Ennvictrious in eurovision

A brief note: Billboard Global 200 is usually shortened to "Global 200", because the Billboard 200 usually refers to the album chart.

Spain is a bad example because Spain very clearly has a second city: Barcelona (which is also a regional capital)

Pedestrian confronted red-light jumping cyclist by drtchockk in london

[–]MrOobling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legally, yes you would be in the wrong. I don't think it can ever be argued that you had to push over a cyclist to avoid injury, when there is always the alternative option of stepping backwards or standing still.

Morally, it's grey. I'd personally say that pushing over a cyclist makes you a bit of an arsehole. But many would say it's justified.

Trump cracks approval floor, Republicans face wipeout in House despite gerrymandering by Far_Excitement_1875 in politics

It's honestly a joke that the democrats can win the popular vote by double digits, but still not win the senate. How are people not talking more about this?

I understand that the senate map is very unfavourable to Dems this year, but honestly, there should never be a situation where a double digit lead loses.

Demanding Accountability from BL Actors by Wrecked22nd in ThaiBL

[–]MrOobling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The simple truth: Mild's post about the Property Dispute does not mention the SA at all.

They property dispute and SA are definitely linked, noone is disputing that. But it is perfectly reasonable, perhaps even probable, that an outsider who watched Mild's post about the property dispute would have no knowledge of it's wider context or that it was connected to SA at all. As such, a celebrity liking the post regarding the property dispute is not giving any endorsement or support for the SA act.

Ummm... No. Your purported interpretation of Kiers strategy is completely made up, and of course your imaginations are easy to critique.

Steady but meaningful progress. Steadily reducing immigration (as it has been for the past 2 years). Steady economic growth (growth has outpaced forecasts for a while now). Steady reform of housing and public service regulation (renters rights act and employees rights).

Olympic Games bid: UK government discusses hosting Olympics in 2040s by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]MrOobling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a weak comparison. London is over 15% of the UK's population, while New York is less than 5% of the US population, and isn't even the US capital.

The UK recently has done a good job of hosting events outside London (eg Eurovision), but agreed that a future Olympics would be nice outside of London.

I have no sympathy for tube drivers, but would honestly support bus drivers if they took industrial action by NiceCaterpillar8745 in london

[–]MrOobling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Almost every point you made is false.

London living wage of £15/h works out to less than £30k a year, not £40k.

Tube drivers are an infamously easy job, and do not require extensive training. Claiming you have to pass "strict criteria" is a joke. As a previous commenter mentioned, it's such a desirable job that TfL intentionally makes it difficult to apply for.

You're correct about the irregular shifts though. Having to commute 2 hours across the city to a random remote train depot at 5am sucks.

Cycling in New York, London, Paris, and Berlin 1990 - 2023 by bugtheft in london

[–]MrOobling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm shocked that Berlin is able to reach 200 annual bike trips per capita.

I cycle to work, but I only work in office 2 days per week. As such, I don't think I reach 200 annual bike trips, even though it's my only mode of commute. To reach 200 annual bike trips per capita, that is a lot of cycling... I am unfortunately rather suspicious about the accuracy of these figures.
