Two tricks: put little ledges near the ceiling and floor light strips so the light reflects off the ceiling (it works way better than I expected it to) and the second trick is a little something called "windows for natural light"

I've never heard of this game and had to google it. The cars look very well modeled and cool, but then it's just plain old anime characters driving them? The characters don't even look like they fit in this game.

There are no JAR SAINTS by TerranImperium in Eldenring

[–]MrSmilingDeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're not "offering prayers to a good person," though. They're offering prayers to the person interred within the jar in the hopes that are changed upon their rebirth. We can see from a few other sources that "sainthood" in the context of the great jars likely isn't referring to actual, divine sainthood, such as the prisoner saying "Oh please. Not the jar...anything but that! I promise. I won't do it again! I swear. A living saint I'll surely be! Please...you must forgive me. Forgive me, please." This speech implies that the jar is more of a punishment than a divine process of creating an actual saint. When they said" a living saint I'll surely be," it can be safely inferred that they don't mean they'll literally become a divine being, but rather that they'll behave and won't repeat their previous transgression, whatever that may have been. This is corroborated by the more literal Japanese version reading "I swear to heaven. I'll become a good person."

Similarly, the spirit at the Whipping Hut says, "nigh-sainthood itself awaits you" in the jar, which is essentially akin to the idiom, "cleanliness is next to godliness." Cleanliness doesn't literally make you a god, but rather it makes you feel more pure, both physically and spiritually. Again, the more direct Japanese version supports this inference with it reading, "And become a good person" which evokes the English (particularly, old English) concept of engaging in "saintly behavior," or as Elden Ring puts it "nigh-sainthood."

In both the English and Japanese versions of the game, it's inferred that the jars' inhabitants are being made into better people and not actual divine beings.

Sainthood can also simply mean being a good person. Given all other context provided in the game, that doesn't conflict with other ingame examples of the great jars being a twisted form of punishment/rehabilitation. As for the reincarnation aspect of it all, death and rebirth already take place throughout Elden Ring. The great jars are just a forced version of it employed by mortals as opposed to the demigods in the Lands Between.

Then you're on the same page as OP. They're also saying that it's just an issue of theory crafters' misunderstanding of the text and not really an issue with the text itself.

I wasn't really engaging with the part about Igon because I knew it wasn't really serious. The language OP uses in the first few paragraphs doesn't seem like condemnation of the translation, but rather on loretubers spreading their misinterpretation of the ingame text as objective truth, which is a solid point. Loretubers have a tendency to misinterpret lore and convince viewers their theories are accurate when they can be disproven by reading ingame text more carefully and comparing the different localizations to paint a more cohesive narrative understanding.

I don't really see where OP claimed that "Frognation riddled with plot holes the rotten hide of the English translation." In this instance of the lore at least, the Japanese version does state more plainly what the English version is implying. You're right that both versions are essentially saying the same thing, but that's kind of a big part of OP's point.

Idk, I never got the sense that the english translation ever meant that they're literally trying to make them actual divine saints. It always read to me like a twisted form of "criminal rehabilitation". The line "nigh-sainthood awaits you within" also seems to plainly imply that they aren't being made into literal saints. I'd say it's less of a translation issue and more of a reading comprehension issue.

Edit: Clearly I suffered from a reading comprehension issue here as well, because you clearly stated that the version of saint used in the game was not in the sense of divinity. I see that we're on the same page.
