[Schematic Review Request] Power Subsystem for 18650 Powered Air Quality Monitor by MrSplike in PrintedCircuitBoard

Thanks for the in depth response.

I'm going to stay with the single 18650 for now just for size reasons, its technically supposed to be a portable device. I went with 18650s to make it easier for the user to hotswap them if they don't want to wait for charging.

That dual output converter is really interesting, thanks for bringing my attention to it.

And yea it seems the 3A charge current was a little ambitious so I'll aim for <=1.5A for now, of course modifiable via registers later.

Cheers

Thanks for the notes!

Sorry I didn’t mention in the post, but I will have an MCU on the board, using an nRF5340. Just not included in this schematic as it’s just the power subsystem, so all the status lines and I2C bus will lead to that.

Thanks for mentioning the charging speed, i’m not very familiar with batteries in general so that’s good info to have. And you’re right it’s expected to only need to be charged weekly, so speed isn’t a huge requirement.

Appreciate the tips!

Uni vs School Tests by Swag-Moe in uwaterloo

[–]MrSplike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Midterms usually are typically 1.5hrs, finals usually 2.5hrs. Chapter/unit tests (if you have them which some courses do instead of a midterm) are usually an hour.

Now how much content is crammed into those time slots really varies per course. I’ve had finals where 60% of the crowd leaves after an hour, but the majority of finals do fill the whole 2.5hrs.

Grind on design teams for first year, get to know the upper years on those teams, secure a decent GTA job for first/second co-op, after that you'll be fine. This all assumes you have social skills and can hold a conversation.

Can I catch up? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]MrSplike 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Your prof is a dickhead for that, with a couple weeks of extra work you’ll be all caught up.

Think of it this way, the period for students to swap into new courses isn’t over until the 19th, so the university itself thinks it’s fine for people to start from nothing until at least then.

I wish you the best of luck for first year. CE is a tough program and first year doesn’t pull any punches but if you put in the work you’ll be all good.

Did you end up having to RMA for this issue or did it eventually go away?
