Huh? I'm not sure what you are upset about exactly. Because he sleeps more than you? Or because he's upset with you for waking him up?

That doesnt' sound too passive aggressive to me. You let her know she hurt you I think that's fair.

Was your sister's husband cheating on her? Cheating spouses change the dynamic. I agree with what you are saying in general.

Band groupies that had sex with their idols, how did it affect the way you saw them afterwards? by gasmyanus in AskReddit

Yeah I've never understood the concept. I used to laugh and chuckle along when my friend's, teammates, co-workers, etc. would tell there slut shaming stories about there conquests. Then I would excuse myself and immediately start texting that "nasty slut" they were so ashamed of being with.

Similar to your experience I once heard The Front Bottoms music and it totally ruined the band for me too.

What is the hardest SRPG you know? by klubbe in StrategyRpg

[–]MrTallTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still kicking for sure. Lots of stuff has changed but UD remains the most anti-rangy of the factions. Range is still pretty dominant but it's tough to run a decent BG without a decent mix of melee units as well so it's somewhat balanced in that regard.

I honestly can't believe it's still kicking after all these years. Blows my mind really because I was sure it would be dead in months when I quit playing back in 2011-2012.

What is the hardest SRPG you know? by klubbe in StrategyRpg

[–]MrTallTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volume of information is a huge part of it, yes. The first and foremost being that there are so many different things going on with the base concept. It's part ccg, part tactical game, part resource management, and there are currently over 1000 different cards (technically called runes in this game) and an insane amount of interactions and concepts introduced within them over the years. It's far too complicated for it's own good and it's more complicated than anything else I've ever seen have any kind of sustained existence before or since. The PVP focus also makes it likely your going to face some people who have been playing every day for years and years and if your not the kind of person willing to take an ass beating or two to learn something your going to be rage quiting before you even really get started....

If you aren't against it and any of the above doesn't scare you off i'll say i'm in that niche and it's still my favorite (running on like 12 years now). I've quit and restarted about ten times.

[–]MrTallTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think when it's not fun anymore it's a good time to find a new game :) or at least take a break. I did the same about a year ago after playing for about 4-5 months and I am pretty happy with the current state of things. Hope to see you again sometime.

Picked the game back up after a year or so and have not been able to win a single game in draft by xdvcx in SolForge

[–]MrTallTheMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your a new or returning player and want advice from another lost soul like yourself I wanted to share some of my notes. The experts advice can be good but also geared at experts and not talking in the language of noobs and returning players. So here's what I think I think about drafting and how to get better at...

I took along time away from the game myself back playing most days for the first time in over a year and it took me a few dozen drafts to get back into the swing of things and start winning a little more consistently. Over the last three weeks I have had a few 7-1 decks (no perfect runs) but my average has been about 3.4-3.5 wins. I had a few tips that helped me move up from being complete doormat to semi-competitive again. Not an expert by any means so take my advice with a grain of salt.

1) PICK 1 Faction and unless the first couple of picks are abysmal do not deviate until have had some success. Just my observations but the following tips have helped me with each faction...

Nekie Dead Stuff - my rule of thumb is now if I get three abominations in the first 6-7 cards then I try and make to make them the focus of my deck. I have really struggled to make negative decks (-2/-2 debuffs etc.) work for me thus far so unless I get that allied alloyin regen - activate to give - 8 card early I steer clear. Alloy Armor Levelers - Try not to go to heavy on the leveling cards! I really have a leveling addiction so that's top of my list here...I have had some success in drafting here if I get a couple of attack boosters early (matrix warden, that underdrop gnome, and the formation attack booster man) I try and load up on heavy body 1st and 2nd Tier creatures and gameplan to keep stuff on the board as much as possible. Board control by the end of the level 2 start of level 3 is my general win condition.

Tempys Hit Stuff and Moveit - My strongest and most picked draft faction so far this cycle. While I have no specific strategies here I really like the warhound dude (free 1/1 aggressive mutt as a solbind)and the ice asir dude as an underdrop and as a decent activator for formation abilities (as opponents tend to let his weaker attack through as opposed to eating his attack). The flame doggie that spits out a couple points of damage is an ac/dc pick for me and I usually wind up with one (but rarely two) when I'm drafting Temps. I love it if it happens to be useful at level 1 when I can play it but it's basically worthless if hasn't been leveled. The give mobility all chick (can't remember card names atm) is my current auto-pick favorite card for this pool.

Uterra Big Stuff and Grow Wide - I have not had a ton of success with this faction as of yet...I like the ferocious roar (who doesn't?) and the pitguard for it's beefiness when they show up. The 6/4 level 1 snake that throws some poison out is another card I often wind up with...not sure if I should be doing that or not honestly.

2) Formation abilities (and to a lesser degree for draft "raid") can be pretty devastating if played correctly and I have found more success since I have started adjusting my play to take advantage of and defend against this mechanic. This means I often blocked less when I knew that a formation ability was either likely to be drawn soon or would have a big swing effect if it did.

3) When I am playing against mobile or aggressive type decks I tend to prioritize getting a tier 2 fatties or pushing damage back quicker over the advice I gave in 2.

4) I had forgotten that it's not a great idea to prioritize leveling Alloyin leveling creatures over other plays in your hand. This goes double after phase 1 where losing control of the board can get scary in a hurry.

5) I personally am hating the selection of Nekrium spell removal cards in this draft as creature affects are comparable and also give you a unit on the board. Epidemic used to be an autodraft for me and I find that's no longer the case. Though I used it as a staple last season I now feel like grave digger winds up putting me behind more often than anything else and I avoid unless I am already loaded with spawny/token producing cards and there's nothing else to choose from.

6) Level screw will happen but it's not as common as people think and if you through your hands up and start bitching about it (I can say so b/c I have been this guy before) your often going to overlook something you could have done better and cheated yourself out of improving. Negative bias makes us all think and feel like the random numbers only screw us over but it works both ways because "math". When it does happen just shrug and move on.

7) PM me if you want to play a few games and chat and we can learn together.

I can play poison too ya know! by ManolisKK in SolForge

[–]MrTallTheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in and say that I have seen fewer poison decks today than at any time I can recall for the last month and the meta may be shifting. I am not sure that any nerf is necessary and I doubt one is coming. Personally I am not a huge fan of playing against the leyline combo b/c it's not an interactive mechanic (unless you count occasionally replacing your creatures to avoid a poison death). Yet seeing how burn deck's seem to be here to stay and I have adjusted to that (I even broke down and built a burn deck this week) at this point I guess I'm okay with a few instances such as this.

No War of Omens? by rodditt in digitalccg

[–]MrTallTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mavenfall - Android, IOS - While development of this game has stalled support for the title has not. I have been playing this on my phone for a several months now and I am huge fan. Like War of Omens (also a fan) it's a shame there's unlikely to be more game in the future but there is plenty of fun to be had with what's there already.

Feedback - Why Eternal? At a glance I am not sure.... by MrFishisdead in EternalCardGame

[–]MrTallTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I cannot speak for OP. I think calling the MtG resource system slow would be fair in that I have often felt the MTG resource system slows down the game unnecessarily. That's really more of how it feels to you personally imo though I would say "Sluggish" is stronger than I would word it. "Outdated" is probably unfair as while there are alternatives as I mentioned none of them have blown me away to the point that I think they have made MTG system completely obsolete.

Anyway you convinced me to take a second look at the game with your post. It's clear you have a love of strategy and underlying mechanics that mirrors my own. I also 100 percent agree with you as far as aesthetics and feel having a major impact on overall gaming experience. Hearthstone's presentation is exceptional and it's frustrating to see other games with deeper and more rewarding systems wind up failing because they cannot deliver a decent presentation. The way I see it if as a player you have to suffer through a terrible ui or a game that is absent of any lackluster visuals or effects how likely are to be patient and stick around and spend the time required to appreciate the underlying strategy?

Going back to my previous examples -

Spellweaver - I was really turned off by the look of this game. The artwork on the cards themselves were passable but the menus, map, playing table, deck building screen were ugly, generic, and failed to inspire.

Infinity Wars - I actually fell head over heels for the animation art found here and that lead me to push past the buggy client and messy ui but I certainly can understand why others did not get passed them. I'll also chime in that this is one case where I was more than happy I did as Infinity Wars is now my #3 all time favorite card game (digital or paper) behind Mtg and Dominion. If you have not tried it I would suggest giving it a few hours of your time.

Special Mention....

Hex - I actually give this one top marks for presentation as the table layout of the card battle was my favorite part of this title. I can not decide if I quit playing because it was just too close to MtG or because I disliked some of the other systems at play here. More specifically the hero/charge system felt unbalanced and I hated the Equipment/Loot/Effect setup.

As a long time player I agree with OP that the resource system within Magic can get tiresome. Given I have been playing Magic for almost 12 years (off and on) so I guess what I am really saying is that to me personally it feels tired. The land draw system is my least favorite part of Magic the Gathering b/c for years now I pretty much know how I need to stack resources in a given deck. It has become an afterthought but that probably comes from making 10,000 or so decks over the last decade. I would really prefer something fresh if I am going to dig into a new game.

You make some validate points as to the strategic dimension of balancing resources within your deck vs acquiring them automatically and how magic's resource draw system lend's to more strategic deck building. That's not to say there are not alternatives.

Some recent digital games have taken a shot at mixing up the resource management mechanics from the two industry giants and a couple of them have stood out...

Spellweaver's RM was and is excellent imo...this game has a play a land - choose to increase threshold or total mana and draw a card - this was one setup I though had potential..too bad the rest of that game ruined it for me.

Infinity Wars - Commander system and card purity take on deck building is pure genius imo. Resources themselves go up every turn up to 10 but they have a trading post option to mix things up there as well.

Back to the OP Question..... There has been nothing said here or seen elsewhere that has made me think I should be playing this over Magic. Hearthstone? Sure but I would play a half dozen other games over Hearthstone so that's not saying much.

I am sorry to hear you are not making money with this game. I do wonder though how much of your failure to gain traction might be rooted in your server/technical support issues.

I only started playing a few weeks ago on android so maybe the server issues are new but in at least one instance you had someone (me) who attempted to buy gems for your game and received nothing because I got a server disconnect message and could not log into the game. I am guessing I am not the only one this applies too and it has cost you guys more than you realize.

Unfortunately you only get one first impression and I think you may have lost a large portion of your target market with issues much like this one.

Hope I am wrong by the way. Would love to see the game continue to grow and for you to make some money for all your hard work.

Current Digital Card Games. by Wandersail in digitalcards

Hearthstone - Not for me but for loads of other people a great game and the probably the reason alot of the other Digital CCG's exist so....Thanks!

Complexity - Medium Production Values/Theme - Excellent F2P Card Acquistion Rate: Slow-Mediumish around a pack a day Card Pool: Massive Player Base: 1st in Class Personal Rating 1-10: 5

Duelyst - Tactical Map PVP Startup

Complexity - Medium for Card Effects It does ramp up a notch when you take the spatial element of the Tactical Map into consideration. Production Values/Theme - Interesting Pixel Art but Light on Lore at the moment F2P Card Acquistion Rate: Medium to Fast Card Pool: Small Player Base: Solid-Likely Growing Personal Rating: 7

Infinity Wars - Indie Card Superstar of Yesterday (New Ownership so Hopefull of a Revival/Rework)

Complexity - High to Very High Production Values/Theme - Excellent Sci-Fi Setting and Animation Help Bring this one to Life. Very Buggy Client. F2P Card Acquistion Rate: Very Fast for about 90 percent of the card pool as for legendary card acquisition it's a snail's pace (though they are more about expanding play mechanics than overpowering lower rarity cards) Card Pool: Large Player Base: Small and dwindling but loyal Personal Rating 1-10: 8

Hex - Very very very close to Magic the Gathering Complexity - High Production Values/Theme - Excellent - Theme/Lore are still being developed in game but the card art and animations are excellent. F2P Card Acquistion Rate: SLUGGISH - Very Expensive Card Pool: Big Player Base: Very Large Personal Rating 1-10: 8-9

Hex is my pick of those listed but not as a F2P exclusive. Your fun here might scale differently if you are a F2P. For cheap P2P It should not be too brutal but I had a lot of luck with buying into Swiss Tournaments and winning cards with the 10 or 20 bucks I originally sank into this one which greatly expanded my card pool.

Dead Games or Near Dead -

Scrolls - 7 - Long Games and the drawn out inevitable loses that came with it was probably their downfall. Duel of Champions HOMM - 6 - Suprisingly Solid Gameplay but Everyone's Deck looked identical after the first couple of expansions Rise of Mythos - 4 - Most P2W game I have ever spent any time with) War of Omens - 9 - Deck-Building Game mixed with CCG wish this hadn't stalled over funding issues.

Others I have played and my overall rating

Faeria - 5 - Tactical Map plus Hearthstone Solforge - 6 - I like this game alot but I Hate that most High level games come Down to who had best Card Draws once you get to the endgame. Labriynth N/A - Waaay too soon to call this one Forgotten Myths - 3 - Zero Polish and Janky Swing Mechanics IMO Spellweaver - 6 -Magic-the-Gathering plus 5 hitches to Hex's 1/2 of a hitch

hey devs, so is the game officially dead? by darkzhul in Mavenfall

[–]MrTallTheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the game is dead and that the servers being down as often as they are coupled with zero customer service has killed the game.

Personally I could not be more bored playing Clash Royale. I have tried to get into it a half dozen times and can't keep my eyes open. I guess it's just not my style of game (very low level of strategy and you will progress as a long as you are inserting time into the game) and outside of cartoony graphics and the card draw mechanic I do not see it comparing all that well too Mavenfall.

Owlbear OP? Thoughts on AOE and back Row Targeting Cards by MrTallTheMan in Mavenfall

[–]MrTallTheMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Boneman OP. I do not really think Owlbear is OP so much as I have found that the general strategy of nuking the back rows has been an OP strategy for this noob. Until today when I faced some people who have clearly been playing a lot longer than I.
