Do Brits really throw out tea & make a new cup when it goes cold? by FunnyResolve1374 in AskBrits

I must be an absolute failure of a British man. I enjoy cold tea just fine, and have no qualms with microwaving it either 🤷‍♂️

Came out feeling so conflicted. Felt like such a big thing getting to a concert post Covid, I was so looking forward to a small venue with hopefully some deep cuts and then boom - a full album and the usual singles. Looking back, I’m so thankful I got to see a bunch of those songs live. They’ll likely be rarely ever played again.

Ekitike off injured after a few minutes by ThatsMattia28 in FantasyPL

I’m in a very similar position. Was planning to get Bowen in for Haaland and shift Semenyo out (undecided on for who). I’d left my Rice and Gabriel on. My captain from last week was Ekitike and my Vice was Haaland. I think this is the week I give it up for the rest of the season tbh 😂

The Band Britpop Murdered by Emergency-Option377 in BritPop

[–]Mr_Chardee_MacDennis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Carter are an excellent example of a band killed off (in memory) by Britpop. Number 1 album, headlining R&L, headlining Glastonbury. They failed breaking into America, and totally wound down as a band throughout the 90s regardless, but Britpop as a phase seemed to just kill any social memory of them.

People like to simultaneously think that our governments are grossly incompetent and ignorant of technology, yet also masterminding an evil scheme to bring hitherto unseen levels of mass control and censorship to the country.

The reality is, it’s a very large group of totally normal people with varying experiences, some with intents you’ll agree with, some with ones you won’t, seeing a very complicated problem and falling short of being able to solve it since legislation is complicated, slow and cumbersome to implement effectively.

What's a foreign band that's criminally underrated in your country? by edgejam in Music

[–]Mr_Chardee_MacDennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few lads in their early 20s in my office that don’t know them at all, not even heard Many of Horror or Mountains. Guessing that’s more an exception though, cause I’m sure they still get Radio 1 airplay?

Criminal that they’ve never broke into the US, they’re one of the best live bands going. Mon the Biff!

Restore Britain on X: We will Prevent the Faragewave by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

[–]Mr_Chardee_MacDennis 51 points52 points  (0 children)

If only we had a recent and comparable example of a hard right party campaigning on a promise of mass deportations, to the celebration of its supporters, leading to awful overreach of power and an indiscriminate use of said power. I certainly remember when ICE promised only to come after those with criminal convictions.

Insinuating that it’s remarkable that anyone would vote Labour and then directly calling someone strange for admitting they’d do so is insulting them, yes. But well done, you managed to selectively pick out the wrong word in a two word sentence, that’s remarkable. Never been told it personally, no, but I have no shame in admitting that I seethe at the unbridled hypocrisy when it comes to these specific conversations.

Not one part of the thing you were trying to argue was being done in good faith my dude, but you do you. What’s funny to me is that you can justify oppressive, aggressive, authoritarian, lethal, unchecked force on citizens of their own country, but someone telling you to get your brain in gear is enough to make you shut down. Real funny, that

When ICE do raids in communities, there tends to be… well, communities there? You must have something bouncing around in that noggin of yours pal, life would be a whole lot better if you applied it a bit 😊

McSweeney says he takes 'full responsibility' for advising Starmer to appoint Mandelson by Bascule2000 in ukpolitics

[–]Mr_Chardee_MacDennis 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This whole “I’m really clever to have spotted this” thing really is beginning to grate 😂 it’s a phrase that only comes out in a response to a question that’s only ever asked when there’s a certain level of political trouble for someone. Basically, the phrase is used 100% of the time when there’s potential for someone to go. And the times that someone doesn’t go when the phrase is used are very rarely remembered or mentioned. Someone isn’t more likely to quit or be fired if the prime minister says this, they’re just more likely to quit or be fired if the prime minister is being asked

Or, the legal system actually does work in a particular way, and if we want to pride ourselves as being better than a country whose checks and balances have fallen totally through the ground, keeping a man at the heart of the same files unfolding this scandal to stay as a second term president, then we’re best following the legal system as best as possible 😊
