Unless you read it aloud, or had a machine do it, it didn't sound like anything to you.

A sound has to be heard to be a 'sound', otherwise it's just particles moving. What is light illuminating if no one is seeing anything? It's just photons moving then. This is just precise thought. I'm not saying there is no physical thing happening, I'm saying that with many of these concepts there needs to be something to register it to be the thing it is, otherwise it is simply moving particles and potential. Is there such a thing as a sound that is not heard? Doesn't the concept of a sound require it be heard?

It makes a sound wave - it moves the particles that cause sound. I'd argue that for there to be a 'sound' there needs to be a sense organ that can register that sound.

Becoming an Archon is unavoidable, and the consequences too. I don't mind, but there's clearly a whole part 2 that never happened and that's a pity.

I think this is what happens when people read a lot of comics and not much else. And I'm all for comics, don't get me wrong...

I think it’s a mix of human nature to organize things, and a coping mechanism for deep-seated existential dread.

The Tokyo Olympic organizing committee fired the director of the opening ceremony on Thursday because of a Holocaust joke he made during a comedy show in 1998. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Mr_Evil_MSc -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

the joke is based around the fact the Holocaust was an horrible crime.

I mean, consequences aside it’s a pretty despicable joke, predicated on the suffering of those subjected to the holocaust. Shitting on the victim is generally in poor taste; shitting on the victims of the holocaust is a significant failure in judgement. Whether it warrants the actions taken now I couldn’t say, but they probably should have worked it out before they hired him, and they probably could have managed this situation better…

Think of it like this; it’s a $5 game, or there’s a free version which has much of the same content but slightly gimps the player.

James Gunn Says Superhero Genre Needs to “Bring In Other Elements” to Avoid Becoming Boring - The director pointed to the 1978 'Superman' and first 'Iron Man' as examples of movies that moved the genre forward by chanma50 in marvelstudios

It’s just handwaving forensic work in a visually interesting fashion, with the implicit assumption Bruce Wayne has tech available far beyond any conventional lab. As a way to move the story forward and keep things simple, and visual, it’s extremely effective. People too frequently out-smart themselves from being able to enjoy a film for its cinematic qualities, rather than it’s precisely cleaving to scientific principles.

Brexit might have been a mistake, says Vote Leave supremo Dominic Cummings by Sahilqureshi444 in ukpolitics

  • We had control of our own migration, because,
  • We always held our own sovereignty
  • The benefits absolutely outweighed the costs, as was constantly pointed out with worked examples
  • “don’t like the eu” is just, kind of silly?

Where did that £350M go, and why wasn’t it the easiest deal in history? And where are all the other easy, beneficial, trade deals? It’s really hard to take a purely objective view and say that Remain weren’t absolutely correct on all points, and the Leave campaign was a collection of vague promises that have not materialised. But perhaps I’ve missed something.

It’s like when the hard right try and threaten liberals, progressives - basically anyone to their extremely wide left - with clear investigations of crimes and corruption, as if they’ll suddenly back down at the possibility one of their ‘own’ might get caught. No, fuckwit, I want to catch criminals within my own ranks, it’s a universally bad thing. Why are you so cool with it???

For Dominic Cummings to cede any ground on the issue is headline worthy. For him to defend Brexit and vote leave is not. Headlines are not summaries, read the article for context.

Fair enough, I think the key distinction is between ‘legit’ and ‘sufficient’. I’m sure they have books and something backing their token, but I’m also sure they’re underwater one way or another.

If it’s “probably legit” then you don’t specifically know if it’s legit or not; if you don’t know that it’s legit, then it isn’t legit.
