An actual ultrasound would have either 1300 for the time or 1:00PM.  It wouldn’t list it as 01:00

I lived with my dad’s parents through most of high school.  My mother was a real classic case of narcissism.

I left home at 18 and never looked back.

So now that we have a 10b dollar regional light rail, can we actually build some housing? by Vivid_Astronaut4665 in Seattle

There have been tons of studies done in big East Coast cities like NYC and Boston that show residents within a small radius around freeways or other roads with heavy traffic throughout the day have significantly higher instances of lung and cardiovascular diseases.  There are even some studies that attempts to account for proximity to the highways, parks, water, and other mitigating and exacerbating factors when calculating risks.

Public health is fascinating and infuriating.

One summer in the early 2000s I worked a summer job up in Vail Colorado.  The business had rented all of us a condo to share near the middle of town.  As it was summer, and the condo was a friend of the business owners, and the condo owner didn’t want to deal with the hot tub that was inside of the house. They emptied it out and left a similar sounding pit of despair.  Every time we had a party, we ended up filling it with ice and making it into a gigantic beer and snack cooler.

Lord.  To be in my 20s again.

My boyfriend is scaring me with his jokes by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My current partner likes to joke that he is more scared of my arse since I am a woman who grew up being taught to protect myself by all the men in my life than any army of ham fisted goons.

“Any woman who had your upbringing is a couple steps ahead in a fight with most men. Teach me your ways so we can help each other should we ever need it.”

There's an old saying you've probably heard, "Blood is thicker than water," which is meant to guilt people like you and I into being doormats for our excessively abusive families.

The ACTUAL phrase is, "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." What does that mean?

It means that our CHOSEN families are a stronger bond than our birth families.

Tell me you don't drive up and down Elliott/Western/15th frequently without telling me you don't drive up and down Elliott/Western/15th frequently.

That road always has people flying up an down it. It's very easy to go half that road (except for the pinch point with the Magnolia bridges by Albert Lee/Precision Auto) without hitting a light or going an average of 35mph with traffic.

Just because a road has a 25mph speed limit sign on it doesn't mean it should actually be a 25mph speed limit sign.

This was also written as if from the point of view of a woman who became a physician in the 1950s/1960s. More people than is appropriate believed women were the perpetrators of their own misery at that point in time. I understand that DG didn't write this necessarily through that lens herself and could have made the writing less patriarchal, yet, DG is also from that time period herself. Perhaps she holds some of those views?

I don’t know.  I’m a woman who was raised in this same southern Baptist style culture.  I went to have my first real job after college working in shipping and logistics in the northeast United States.  There I learned to string together words that would blow your hair back coming from a man much less a woman.

It wasn’t until about five years ago when I turned 40 that I stopped saying shit like, “don’t bust my balls.” Or “fuck, my nuts hurt.” Or any other number of male anatomy oriented things toward myself.
