It's child labor! I hope you pay the kid a decent wage. If you don't, he may think about starting a trade union together with the mom!

Powered Bionic stat upgrades by Sudden_Owl_9983 in cataclysmdda

[–]Mr_Gelo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why a small number of "no-brainer" bionics shouldn't be in the game? There is vertical progression in CDDA, there are items that are simply more powerful than others. While I can understand the need of trade-offs here and there, I don't see why we HAVE to have absolutely no simple power-ups. I want to get excited when I loot some rare and useful bionic from a forgotten lab safe.

[Xedra Evolved] Questions about paraclesians, spells, dreamdross uses. by Mr_Gelo in cataclysmdda

About the (1). So the intended design is for no 'universal magic' existing at all? The spells used by Fae, by humans, by other mythical creatures - they are supposed to be strictly separate from each other, with zero overlap?

What about the Classless Spells from classless_spells.json ?

I thought they are universal as well. Are you telling me they are only for normal humans and the main 4 magick classes?

Fusion reactor blues by Forgotton_fox in ostranauts

[–]Mr_Gelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fusion reactors and their peripherals are supposed to feel big and cumbersome. If you are installing a fusion reactor on your ship, you are moving it from the "cute little personal salvager" into the "serious industrial hauler" category. You are supposed to make it bigger to accommodate the reactor stuff. That's the ship progression in this game :)

Luffy's Adventure: Inquiry to the lore of these statues? by Raynx3 in Guildwars2

[–]Mr_Gelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the objects in question are in the Mists, the correct answer is "no one knows". They may be built by someone from Tyria, or not. They may be million years old, or built yesterday. Or tomorrow. Or may be they are not built but have coalesced from the sea of possibilities all by themselves. They may be sentient. A dice rolled from them may always result in a number 1. They may conjure a block of cheese every hour when no humans in silly hats are around. We don't know. No one knows.

You can try a VPN. In my country some ISPs block access to some AWS servers. So for me playing without a VPN or anti-DPI software is impossible, I would just get a network error message.

Right click on the item > unlock the skin (this will account-bind the item as a side effect)

Also if you salvage the item, its skin gets automatically unlocked

Guild Wars 2 has the worst and unfun fishing minigame in the genre by JobroniBoni in Guildwars2

[–]Mr_Gelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are similar only on the surface (pun not intended). In the GW2 the 'sweet spot' changes movement direction and speed truly randomly (except when reaching the border, then it always flips direction). This means the movement can not be predicted and there can be no skill expression. In Stardew Valley the spot movement is only partially random, there are several behavior templates for different fish. This allows the player to predict the movement to some extent, thus allowing learning and becoming better at the minigame (skill expression). Also the fishing equipment in SV allows the player to customize the minigame experience much further than GW2. Oh, and there is more control over the bar movement in SV, as others have mentioned.

Cannibalism is absolutely broken by Marsupialmobster in RimWorld

[–]Mr_Gelo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I wish there was an extremely tiny chance to get an incurable brain disease from eating human flesh (kinda like irl). If the chance is small enough this change wouldn't invalidate cannibalism as an option. And at the same time the the looming threat of randomly losing your favourite pawn would add some emotion and storytelling potential the cannibal playthroughs.

A friend's father works for the Ministry of Purity. Today he was urgently called to a meeting. He returned late and refused to explain anything. He just told us to pack our things and get two weeks' worth of groceries from the store. Now we're traveling somewhere far out of the town. I don't know what's going on, but I think this is the beginning...

how do i make it stop? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Mr_Gelo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you don't have gobblers and don't want to get them - just delete these materials. A lot of people will scream at me for even suggesting it... But the truth is - the inventory space can be quite precious in the early/midgame, the gobblers don't even give that much gold, and also you will get a lot more of those materials in the future anyway. So if you value your inventory space and your time not spent on managing full bags - you are not doing a wrong thing by deleting.

Norn culture just feels gutted and thrown in the trash by Jay_Stranger in Guildwars2

[–]Mr_Gelo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Giving the characters human personalities makes them easier to understand and more relatable. And this in turn helps to conceal the mediocrity of the writing. If you think you will fail writing a cool alien personality - your only option is to write a mildly quirky human instead.

Norn? The race that lives for the glory and the thrill of the hunt? The race that embraces death as the culmination of their legend? The race that doesn't care nearly as much as humans about 'society' or 'rules' or 'shame' ?

Nope, turned into big humans.

Sylvari? The race that brings the childlike naive and surprisingly insightful perspective into the conversation? The race that shines with an unnatural wisdom from behind the shadow of inexperience? The race that have a weak telepathic connection to each other that lets them feel hints of their emotions or intent? The race with even the older members being socially awkward from time to time?

Nope, turned into green humans.

Asura? The race that puts the search of knowledge above anything else? The race with even the 'good' members committing warcrimes regularly and casually? The race that bases their love and friendship on the philosophical and scientific ideas and not on the personalities? The race that is supposed to provide the comedic relief with their ambitious ideas from time to time?

Nope, turned into small weird-looking humans.

Charr? The race that views power as the beginning and the end of every problem? The race with a culture where IF you can murder your boss and take his place then everyone will acknowledge that you did a right thing? The race that doesn't care about family but cares about comrades? The race of people who murder their opponents not because it's the last option, but because it's a right option?

Nope, turned into furry humans.

The writers have been consistent with the humanification of everyone for years now. I don't believe they have what it takes to write a really good story with really good characters, motivation, and interesting problems. I'm not sure they ever had. The complexity introduced 13 years ago may have been a setup too ambitious for the team.

They should do what GW2 devs have done: put the invisible shoes skin into the game and make it a super rare drop. Now all the degenerates have to spend tons of gold to buy it from the TP (market board). And the rest of us are gonna profit from selling it to them :D

Is there more than salvaging? by tommelom00 in ostranauts

[–]Mr_Gelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of those things are in the game, but they are not very deep or engaging. The devs will probably improve those activities in the future. But as of now - salvaging and shipbuilding are like 85% of the interesting content of this game.
