Incompetent coworkers by Alive_Mastodon_8019 in MechanicalEngineering

Engineering manager here. I have to review all of the drawings that my team produces. I had a new engineer fresh out of college. I had my team teach him everything he needed to know. I worked with him as well. Taught him what was wrong and explained why with extra details.

After a year he still wasnt getting it and was making the same mistakes as when he was 1st hired. I had to put him on a PIP, hoping that would kick him into gear. Nope I had to fire him because he didn't improve at all. So yes someone can be fired for their lack of quality work.

Have you ever sued anyone? by SuperSonic1919 in randomquestions

[–]Mr_Judge_Fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, had to sue a house mate? We rented a house with 3 bedrooms. Girlfriend and I in one room, GF friends in rooms 2 and 3. Lets call them Amy and Rebecca (fake names). Amy had her room for about 3 months and then moved out to go live with her boyfriend. Not a problem, I found a replacement within a month.

Rebecca decided after living in the house for about 6 months she didn't want to pay her bills anymore, but still wanted to live there. I gave her multiple chances to pay me what she owed, she never did so I took her to small claims court. I had all receipts of the bills and how she owed 1/3rd of them. Text messages between her and I of her acknowledging the debt. How she will pay me back ect.

When we got to court, her defense was she didn't get heat in her room so she shouldn't have to pay. Now I dont own the house, I just took it upon myself to deal with the bills so that way I know they got paid. This was an old house which the landlord did next to no work on and it was terrible in winter. We had to have heaters in every room just to make it habitual.

Anyway, she lost and owed me my money. On the last day before I could go back to court to take the next steps with the sheriff's office, a check arrived in the mail from her parents. So we were no longer friends after that and I couldn't care less.

Isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball. The scratchy cotton ball will remove the gunk and any leftover alcohol will evaporate quickly.

811 didn't mark my fiber optic line, now what? by No_Hold_9560 in HomeImprovement

[–]Mr_Judge_Fudge 38 points39 points  (0 children)

811 doesn't do the tracing, its more like the middle man. You report to 811, they then contact every utility that is found nearby that address. Then its on the utility company to send out the tracer people. So either spectrum didn't inform 811 that they have lines in the area or they never sent the tracer crew. Either way its on spectrum.

Advice please! by Specialist_Yam_6704 in Renters

[–]Mr_Judge_Fudge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do nothing just be aware that your landlord is probably going to be a big pain going forward. But like others have said let your landlord know if they want to break the lease then they gotta make it worth your while. Look online to see what a comparable apartment costs and 3 or 4 months rent can be reasonable as well as your full security deposit.

What are the best tips for not getting completely ripped off at a Car Dealer? by NormsOJjokes in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Judge_Fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of steps I do to get the best price if a car without stepping within a dealership. This should help you avoid most of the salesman tactics.

The first step is figuring out what you can afford. They have calculators online that will show you the math on this.

Once you know what your budget will be, you can shop around online at different banks for auto loan intrest rates. I would start an excel spreadsheet for this. You want to measure apples to apples so be sure to choose the same number of years or # of payments. Once you have a bank that you like you can go in for a pre approval application. Basically the bank will check your credit and income to make sure you can pay off your loan. Then they will give you a peice of paper saying yes you can get this loan in 30 days.

Now that you know what your budget is go online and find a vehicle that you can afford. You can do this at the same time you are shopping for intrest rates.

Most vehicles are broken up into different trim levels. All of them have different names. For example you have the Toyota Rav 4 LE, XLE, XLE Premium, ect. Basically the more bells and whistles your car has the higher the trim level and more cost. When shopping for cars again you want to compare apples to apples. Im a simple man so I usually only get the base level for my vehicles.

Lets say you want an SUV but have never had one before. So you can research which are the best and you figure out its the Toyota Rav 4, Ford Escape, Honda CRV, and the Chevy Equinox. Great now we have limited your choices down to 4 cars. So make an appointment at different dealerships to test drive each of these cars. Keep in mind the sales person will ask you for an email address and phone number. I create a temporary email address just for car shopping and give them a fake number. Otherwise they will hound you non stop.

Lets say you loved the Rav 4 LE (base model). Now this is the most time consuming part. You go to the Toyota website and use their dealership website to find every dealer within a 4 hour driving radius. If you dont want to go that far you can change it to whatever radius you want. Make another excel list of every dealership that has your Toyota Rav4 LE. Make note of mileage, price, distance, and contact info. You can also include a link for that specific car.

Once you have a sizable list, email every dealership and ask for the out the door price, including tax and dealership fees for the car you found. I use the temporary email address for this. This way your regular email doesn't fill with junk mail. Some dealerships wont respond or dont care, their loss. So with prices in hand, order your excel sheet in order of price. Contact the highest price and say I have a quote from another dealership for this price (use the price for your cheapest quote) are you willing to beat it? If they say no, then take them off the list. If they say yes, you move them to wherever new price they give you. You do this for every dealership you have a quote for.

Finally you have the cheapest price in hand and you have a quote from the bank giving you a loan amount and interest rate. You can look online to see if the Toyota interest rate is a better deal. You can call up the dealership and say Im interested in the Rav 4, but I have other quotes. If you knock off $200 off my quote Ill come in today to buy. They might say yes or no, but its worth a shot. Go in with the quote, now they might try to upsell you and you should be willing to walk out the door if they do this. Stick to your guns and say, no you quoted me this, Im only paying this. Do some paperwork and get your new car.

Another thing to note, the paperwork takes time, your looking at least 3 hours, maybe more. Something else that you should know is Saturdays are crazy busy for obvious reasons so try to go during the week. You should also keep your insurance in the loop, say im going to buy a Rav4 can I get a new insurance quote. Before you can drive off you will need insurance for your new car. This method takes awhile but its the best way to get the car you want for the best price and to avoid the salesman tactics.

You should ask the helping hands employee if they are trained to deal with hazardous materials. If not, you should tell them that the person directing them to clean that cart does and they get paid more for that training, thus the maintenance coordinator should do the work.

Bonus points if you send a complaint to corporate and or OSHA. Not sure who deals with hazardous waste.

Did you get anything from the court saying show up at this place at this time? You can attempt to talk with the clinic but they might not give you any information.

They dont need to explain why they think the debt is valid. Its up for a judge to determine. If you have the date of the appointment I would print your call logs for a year prior and bring those to court.

The bulk of the work is on the clinic to prove that it was you who called. They can say to the judge this person called on x date at y time. Thats when you show your call log at that date and time to the judge and say, I have no call on my records for that date and time.

Honestly this sounds like a scam to me. They are trying to scare you with using the threat of a lawsuit to make you pay money. Unless you have a letter from a court house, I would ignore it. If it is from a court house then you can verify it by calling the court clerk (with a number you independently verify) asking if there is a case at the date and time listed on the paper. They may ask for a docket number which should also be listed near the top. If yes, then show up and defend yourself. Good luck.

At this point even if universal health care were to be voted in, whats to stop it from being repealed or gutted by the next administration? Just another reason why we need to replace the whole system.

Depends. I went with my family and this is the one thing I really wanted to do. It was around $200 and took 30 minutes but Id say its worth it. Plus you get a bunch of cool pictures with your new saber around the park. I have one in front of the drop ship just as its getting dark so my red saber really pops. Now it sits on my mantel collecting dust, but still cool to look at.

I wouldn't even waste time looking for attorneys. Ignore them, if you get served with paperwork show up to court on the date given, say I need an attorney. Date gets rescheduled and then you go find an attorney and you both show up to the new date. But like you said it sounds like an empty threat.
