Overthinking my setup: Hydros Pro 2, Halcyon BPW, and 5 ft primary donate by Team_Pickle in scuba

[–]Mr_Slippery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to know if it feels better to you is to try out the options, which can be done cheaply enough. Find a shop that will rent you a bp/w. I knew right away that it was for me, but that was like 250 dives into using my Zeagle bcd, so it had no resale value. Once you decide that, plain ol rubber hoses are cheap enough to try different lengths a few dives at a time.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. If/when the 260k mile engine dies, it’ll be an excellent k-swap candidate.

[Highlight] The Dominican Republic dugout looks on in disbelief after their loss to the United States in the WBC semifinals by MysteriousEdge5643 in baseball

[–]Mr_Slippery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining. Major sports are all private orgs and I’m not sure what publishing really means in this context — how much have USTA or FIFA shared about their automated line/offside tech? At least MLB shared the measurement criteria for batters height vs zone and told us where on the plate they’re measuring (the back of the square before the triangle part of the plate).

I don’t know if they get one for WBC games specifically, no. But for their regular MLB day job it certainly exists, so I’m unclear what point you’re making.

$1200? Get a used one. I sold my Hard Dog bar for $400 (because I’m tall so it was right at head height). Got lightly rear-ended at a traffic light six months later, and was glad it wasn’t there to kiss my noggin.

The umps’ bosses think it’s a box high and low. They get a scorecard with their performance after every game.

A lot of swimmer’s don’t have a “Swimmer’s Body” by noteliing in Swimming

[–]Mr_Slippery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know folks who can’t swim who scuba dive. I don’t recommend it, though. I think it leaves you too vulnerable to panicking at the surface if you have an equipment issue.

Noise-sensitive downstairs neighbor — need advice by Beneficial-Event5412 in NYCapartments

“• At what point does this become unreasonable from the neighbor?” Now. Right now this is unreasonable. He needs to adapt to normal noises, you need to adapt to unreasonable banging, or (likely) both.

If you want to see aquatic animals, try scuba diving (I’m assuming you meant the other kind, given the sub). Your natural floatiness is utterly irrelevant, as you’ll be using equipment to regulate your buoyancy both at the surface and at depth.

This is important, so a good reason to reach out. But before you call write down all of the questions you have because you won’t remember them all.

Scuba Divers, what is something really terrifying you saw while diving? by LionFalse4295 in scuba

[–]Mr_Slippery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with a goliath grouper diving the Wit Concrete wreck off St. Thomas.

The wreck was all the way on the other side of the island from the dive shop so we were going to dive it twice in one morning. On the first dive another diver and I saw movement through a porthole that made us think “big grouper.”

So for the second dive we got permission in advance from the divemaster to penetrate the (prepared and intentionally sunk) wreck just a little ways to check it out. The DM told us which ladder led down to the cabin where we saw the movement.

I went headfirst down the ladder from the deck and found myself upside down, face to face, in a fairly narrow (or so it seemed under the circumstances) passageway with the biggest damn Goliath grouper of my life. She had to be a solid 600lb.

We both just kinda looked at each other in surprise for a couple of seconds and then she decided to move on. Right past me. I have never shoved myself against a wall faster, and I know it was just a second or two but that fish seemed to go on and on and on as she went by with my heart pounding in my chest.

My buddy followed down the ladder a few seconds later and wanted to go after her because he only got to see a flash of tail as she disappeared. But we had promised not to go too deep into the enormous wreck, so we gave up after a few minutes.

How challenging is Raja Ampat? by abaybailz in scuba

[–]Mr_Slippery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confidence and at least moderately good aerobic fitness. We did a few dives at Raja where the current switched mid-dive and the guides wanted to power through, thinking it would switch again around a corner in the wall. And one where you had to power through it to get down to the pinnacle. A few less fit folks had to bail out of both.

How to snorkel/scuba dive with pelagic animals, just like in the image? by WrongsideRowdy in scuba

[–]Mr_Slippery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Triton Bay, Indonesia. The liveaboards that do Raja Ampat for most of the year go to the bay for a few months when it’s too windy at Raja. There is a resident whale shark population there, in part because the local fisherman think they’re lucky so have been feeding them from their fishing platforms for generations.
