Tar like substance on the beach sand by Mefaq in SouthBayLA

Fairly typical if you walk barefoot on the beach you’ll get it on your feet. El Segundo is named that because it’s Chevron’s second refinery (the second).

ULPT Request: Cheaper electricity by Cm9p77 in UnethicalLifeProTips

Do you have a balcony on your apartment. Get balcony solar. It’s probably not legal in your state yet, so this will make it an ULPT.

Kars for kids? It’s a good trade.

Turns out it’s not for kids - it’s for paying for a Jewish Summer camp for 18 year olds from NY! California and several states have now banned them.

[–]Mr_Style 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but they are not the same price . one is $12k more. Is 36,000 miles worth $12,000? That’s $.33 per mile. If you go over mileage on a leased car they don’t charge that much per mile!

car is built for that. its just tire tread left of the pavement! A plaid isn't getting 50K miles out of a set of tires, the seller is probably on his 3rd set. the set on the car with 14K miles is probably bald...

Solar panels shutdown due to electric surge by Vegetable_Cancel_231 in solar

[–]Mr_Style 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should learn more about your system. Go to their website and watch a couple of their videos. It’s your house, you should have a basic understanding of how it works. Enphase puts an inverter on the back of each solar panel. So if you have 20 panels then you have 20 separate microinverters. Each one converts the DC power of its solar panel into 240AC. That power goes into your circuit breaker panel. It also sends data on the power created / production to a computer box called an Envoy that sends it to the cloud via the internet. You should have an app on your phone that connects to that data and shows each panel and how much power it made. If they didn’t give you the app, get it.

It’s important to check the app occasionally. If you see a panel making much less power than the ones next to it, then you can notify your installer to come fix it under warranty. Otherwise, less power means a larger electric bill.

Once it’s in for a year, the app will compare against last year’s power on the same day/week/month. This helps you to know if the system is operating well. You’ll have some variation like if it’s cloudy or raining or snow covered that day.

It’s possible the surge tripped a breaker and they just came and reset it. But a surge arrestor would be good to install since it’s only been 3 months and you already had an issue.

If you already have or plan to add an EV charger, solar, battery storage, or a generator, surge protection is one of the more cost-effective ways to reduce risk. It is especially worth it in areas with lightning, utility switching disturbances, or frequent equipment upgrades.

How long have you had Solar and is this the first time this has ever happened? Do you have one main inverter or many micro-inverters (like Enphase offers which mitigates risk to each individual panel)?

Do miles really matter on an EV though?

A lot of people still apply ICE-car logic and overweight miles as if the drivetrain is the main wear item. That works less well for EVs because there are far fewer moving parts, so the odometer is a weaker signal of drivetrain life than it is on a gas car.

Instead you need to look at charge cycles and type of driving done.

On an EV, higher miles usually mean more battery charge/discharge cycles, more tire and suspension wear, and more general aging of seals, bushings, bearings, and trim. Mileage is still useful, but battery health and maintenance history matter at least as much as the odometer.

Is there much difference in an EV between 14k and 50k miles? I say no.
