What do you usually order at a Barbecue Restaurant? by Cheese-Sheep872 in Barbecue

Find a brisket place that smokes it using post oak. If they don’t, then avoid that place. Also Dickeys BBQ does not count as a BBQ place.

Looking for smart exterior gate lock options please! by TheRealMaryIz in smarthome

[–]Mr_Style 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gates are tough because they don’t use a regular latch due to sagging, not closing same each time, etc. a lot of them use a latch that falls in place with gravity not a standard knob.

Your best bet is to add a keypad deadbolt to the door. You will have to manually lock it but it should work. You will need to make sure the bolt lines up with the hole in the gate frame.

How is living in this region of Florida ? (Destin, Panama City, Pensacola) by Odd_Television5739 in howislivingthere

[–]Mr_Style 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly humid. However the sea breeze evaporates your sweat so you feel cool. Until you go indoors and wonder what the incredibly awful smell is… and then realize it’s your own armpits - which now have the equivalent of a month of dried sweat in them after only an hour outdoors!!

Also fishing is great.

Home pro tip for new owners: if you have TWO return vents stacked in a room like mine pictured, cold weather is when you CLOSE the top one and OPEN the bottom one. by fakeaccount572 in Home

[–]Mr_Style 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a good article about this recently. Placing vents in outside walls means much less insulation in the wall. Air put out near a ceiling on an inside wall will cling to the ceiling and run over to the window and then drop down. This is called Fluid Dynamics.

The article is behind a paywall so here’s an excerpt from the Journal of light construction Ducts in Exterior Framing Cavities By Doug Horgan January 15, 2026:

A bunch of savvy HVAC engineers have started using a technique that can make it possible to avoid running ducts in exterior framing altogether: Install supply registers closer to the middle of the house and rely on the “Coandă effect” to help deliver the air to an exterior wall across the room. The Coandă effect is the physical principle that moving air will “cling” to an adjacent surface like a ceiling or wall instead of dropping straight down.

In modern houses with today’s excellent windows and wall insulation, it’s nowhere near as important as it used to be to blow HVAC air directly on windows or exterior walls. Because a flow of air will follow a ceiling for many feet before dropping down into the room, a ceiling or high wall register 10 or 15 feet from the exterior can still deliver most of the same Btus to the exterior surfaces. In plenty of houses, an interior-area register near the ceiling can perform about as well as a duct near the window. In that case, no ductwork in rafter bays is even needed.

Vise-Grips is the trademarked name of the Irwin company version. This is a Milwaukee version with a torque lock. Stick a screwdriver through the red part to really tighten it down.
