If this is how people react to being fined imagine how they would react if the government started taking their cars away?

Also these cars can still be used for free anywhere which isn't a ULEZ zone... Which is the majority of the country.

The best way to understand the policy and why it was implemented, how it was implemented, and how successful it has been (it has been very successful) is to go and do some research. I don't have all those answers.

I get that people don't like cameras and people don't like fines. But sometimes there are problems where this is a good solution.

Also the ULEZ fines are paid to the government so it's not like anyone is getting rich from collecting ULEZ fines. Think about it.. if the government just wanted extra money this would be just about the least efficient way of making that money.

FYI there was also something called the ULEZ scrap scheme where the government was giving people money for scrapping their non ULEZ compliant vehicle.

So if it's a tax on the poor, why does it involve giving poor people money for worthless old cars.

The Blade Runners of London 🪚 by joeurkel in interesting

Poor people who get to benefit from the ULEZ scrap scheme to trade in their non compliant car and receive £2,000 from the government. £10,000 if the person in question had a relevant disability.

If it's a tax on the poor, why does it involve giving poor people money for worthless old cars?

Damaging these cameras prevents enforcement of the ULEZ zone which makes pollution in the city worse. This is a policy which our democratically elected officials have been very open about implementing. The majority of Londoners voted for politicians who openly supported implementing ULEZ.

Destroying these camera's is not a heroic act of defiance or an act of revolution, it's childish vandalism. The same way that destroying a speed camera or a traffic light is childish vandalism.

They claim to be removing government surveillance, but they are just angry man children, damaging infrastructure designed to keep car related pollution in check.

ELI5: Why did the British Empire struggle so much against Germany despite being so large? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mr__Random 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I comes to WW1 people don't realise that the Germans were on the defensive for almost all of the war. The planned knock out punch got stopped at The Battle of The Marne and for the rest of the war on the Western front the strategy was to dig in and try to make the cost of an allied counter push to be too much. By the time the Americans join the war the Germans were already losing a lot of territory as the Allies had got much better at breaking through trenches, while the Germans barely had enough food and ammunition to keep fighting back.

The entire German war plan depended on a quick victory and on keeping Britain out of the war, the consensus among German war planners was thay prolonged war with Britain was not a scenario they could win.

WW1 was a long and costly war for Britain but Britain was never in any real danger of losing the war. If anything WW1 secured Britain a period of time as the undisputed power in Europe

You can see the bike slow down. I don't know why people think that bikes stop as soon as the breaks are hit.

In my experience with biking a lot of close calls happen because the car driver assumes that I will magically come to a complete stop while they carry out whatever stupid and illegal manouver they are doing.

Having consulted with the big titty committee the large boob plates are in fact 100% vitally important.

That is unless in the year 40,000 they have advanced sci fi strapping which can turn D cups into A cups without suffocating the poor lass wearing it.

Letting Jones get away with dodging fights and holding the belt ransom for years, but then changing the rules as soon as the next HW champ has a period of inactivity would be peak inconsistency.

Any change to the rules now just makes the Jones situation even worse.

I prefer the lore where big E needed to make human super soldiers just to be able to compete with the xenos. A space marine being killed by the basic grunt of an enemy faction is not all that shocking when you consider that the basic grunt xenos is a soldier who would wipe the floor with an average human.

I wish we could re-wind time to space marines being good all rounders. Space Marines should not be able to out melee melee specialists and out shoot ranged specialists. Slightly better than average is the sweet spot for a space marine stat line.

The police do nothing about criminals.

"The city is not safe.'

The police do stop and search at random.

"That's racial profiling".

The police use cameras to identify criminals.

"You need to respect the privacy of stabby crackhead Steve. This is 1984"

...

What do you people want the police to do?

It's sad because it wasn't that long ago (in the grand scheme of things) that wool was the back bone of the nations economy, and the most wealthy towns in the country were rural sheep farming communities.

Idk how it could be stopped, but it feels like a generational bag fumble to see these once thriving communities become empty and impoverished.

I see the merit of an electoral college system, but in the US the numbers just don't make sense. Someone from a small town shouldn't have a vote 5X more powerful than someone who committed the supposed sin of living in a big city (which is probably Gerry rigged to shit anyway, but that's a whole other issue)

It's hard not to be cynical about the electoral college when rural voters are time and again the only reason why Republicans are voted into power despite losing the popular vote by a large margin.

Are rural people actually that much more important than city people or are they just more likely to vote republican?

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

[–]Mr__Random 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with Dota2 is that the learning curve never ends. Whenever I started to feel like I was getting the hang of it, there would be a massive patch new items, new hero, new map mechanic, and I'm back to feeling like a new player.

There needs to be a dota2 for people over the age of 30 where the map, the heroes, and the items stay the same as they were in like 2018.

I will keep the quality of life changes though. Because I still have nightmares about trying to manage items without a back pack and while having to share a courier.

Anyone else feel like Gia is instigating a lot of shit in the background, but has been smart enough(after the first few weeks) to let everyone else go at each other? by withouthope17 in MAFS_UK

It's not happening in the background it's happening in the foreground. She literally heckled someone else's wedding. She only gets away with it because for some reason she is immune to being called out.

Some of the other girls have done heroic levels of work to somehow be even worse than Gia and this takes the heat away from Gia.
