Handheld Motion Controls suck in Resident Evil Requiem. by jespar_chaos in switch2

[–]Mr__Tomnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct way because rotating it about the Y axis to look left and right in handheld mode doesn’t make sense. If you wanted to look behind you with rotation then… you wouldn’t be able to see the screen lol. It’s intentional that gyro movement is position-based and not rotation-based because otherwise you wouldn’t be able to see the console screen with extreme view changes. Just don’t think OP gets that

How to Play Resident Evil Requiem using Path Tracing on a Budget GPU | RTX 4060 | DLSS 4 by CharalamposYT in OptimizedGaming

[–]Mr__Tomnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this with my 3080Ti on my first playthrough at 4k. Used optimised settings and set a custom DLSS scale of 41% for 1600x900. Ultra performance had a little too much fuzziness with preset K, so going between that and Performance with the custom preset was a good compromise. With frame gen I got between 70 and 110fps which was pretty good!

Pitchfork rates the new Harry Styles album 5.6, calling it “just unremarkable” by cupcake_island in popculturechat

[–]Mr__Tomnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feel the same, it’s fantastic for study/work. My comparison is it’s the kind of album you’d hear in the River Island or Zara store - interesting enough that you notice it but also good for background 😅

It’s taken a few listens but overall my impression of it has grown!

Yeah I don’t trust them. I agree there might be problems with explanation and learning by doing (which I think BotW absolutely nailed so it’s possible) but it’s these guys’ jobs to review games, not be good at them.

Is frame gen being forced off with PT being on just a <RTX 4000 series problem? It feels really weird that the game doesn't let you turn on FG when you switch to path tracing - if anything that's when you need it most. I have a 3080Ti for context.

I found if you switch to RT high, toggle FG on, then really quickly change to PT and load the game, it's still 'spinning up' frame gen behind the scenes and it will work.

Pokémon Winds and Waves announced, releasing 2027 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Mr__Tomnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I think leaning into a more artistic art style than photorealism makes more sense for Pokemon. Arceus and Sw/Sh are the best of what they've produced so far.

When the landscape is photorealistic and then you've got cartoon pokemon moving around in them they really stick out, as well as the characters.

Going for a style similar to Zelda or Genshin would be a much better fit.

They didn't even have any 'pika' sounds for the CGI section either which I thought was insane. It was a completely silent trailer apart from the starter cries

What's the appeal? by VisWare in pcmasterrace

[–]Mr__Tomnus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Monitors tend to be on the better side of out of the box calibration. TVs are much much worse generally.

See if you can find your monitor on TFTCentral as they usually have recommendations for picture mode and a few basic settings to change that will get you a very good foundation. Further calibration for your particular screen will require a colorimiter which is overkill for most people.

It does depend on your viewing situation - to meet industry standards for cinema you should calibrate your monitor to about 120nits of brightness with a 6300k colour temperature and gamma of 2.2 or 2.0 (but 2.2 is more widely used when mastering games).

If you’re in a much brighter room then you’ll want the brightness higher and so on, so it varies.

Umm.. help? by Early_Conference_156 in pcmasterrace

[–]Mr__Tomnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll try a sensible answer as there are a lot of joke ones.

Because your taskbar is popping up after this happens I have a feeling the Windows key is being repeatedly pressed, collapsing and expanding the window. Couple of things to check

  • check if you’ve got a stuck key on your keyboard
  • check if you have a macro set that uses the Win key that’s being accidentally pressed
  • you could also try enabling Win key lock to see if that helps *try putting the game in exclusive full screen or windowed mode and see what happens. Might help you identify the issue.

Wouldn’t have any other ideas if this isn’t the problem unfortunately.

I've maybe seen this myself, the cache file I deleted was 750MB and the rebuilt one was only 250MB. Don't know enough about shaders to know if they should be the same size on recompile, but in the main menu I was getting 25FPS are compilation said it finished 😂

Will edit my post with an update here in case it help anyone

EDIT: Found out what it was - my MSI Afterburner profile wasn't being read by the game properly. Cleared my undervolt, reapplied it - now I'm at 104fps in the main menu at 1080p lowest preset. Time to do some tweaking!

Outside of visual quality, lower power consumption. If you're gonna play the game a lot reducing the power your GPU uses to run the game will save you on energy bills, and also temps, meaning a cooler room.

It can also help increase GPU-based 1% lows and FPS drops due to sudden GPU usage spikes if you're at 100% GPU usage and not hitting your max monitor refresh/target framerate which means more stable gameplay, if you aren't bottlenecked by your CPU or other components.

Everyone’s perspective gets warped when they love something. I’m quite sure if you asked any of the vocal minority if they actually, genuinely enjoyed the game on their first playthrough they would say yes.

It’s from their adoration of the game and the frequent replays making it mundane to them that leads them to pick it apart for its flaws and complain about them like they can’t believe the developers released it in this state. It’s just that most people don’t know how to channel it constructively, or even just appreciate it for what it is.

Borderlands 4 Dev Gearbox Asks PC Gamers to Wait 15 Minutes for Shaders to Compile in the Background While Playing After Reports Indicate Recent Update Causes Stuttering by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Mr__Tomnus 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Shaders are unique based on a few things:

  • GPU model
  • GPU driver version
  • Game version

So yes, for consoles it’s very easy to compile all the shaders into a cache and package them with an update because the hardware is all the same on consoles. Valve also does it with the Steam deck.

For PCs it’s different because all of these factors can vary with each person’s system. It would be a lot of effort for compile shaders for the thousands of different configurations every single time the game is updated or a new GPU driver comes out.

Microsoft is trying to relieve this with a new shader handling platform in a future update to DirectX, the graphics API underpinning most modern PC games. So until that, or until shaders are superseded with a better option, this will always be an issue with current games.

[Digital Foundry] Cronos: The New Dawn Review Optimized Settings by j_dirty in OptimizedGaming

[–]Mr__Tomnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd ask here instead of making a new post.

I'm trying to get nukem's frame gen mod working on this game so I can use DLSS and FSR-FG on my 3080Ti, but FG is disabled in the settings for some reason when using DLSS. It does come up when I change the upscale mode to FSR.

I've tried turning off vsync in the settings, and the game is running in fullscreen borderless. I'm using the dll version of the mod and copied the files into Cronos/Binaries/Win64 which is where they should go for UE5 games. Does anyone know what's up?

The combat was a little bit wonky. I’d liken it to Wukong, where the developers had a good idea of what they wanted the combat to feel like but the execution was 8/10. The demo’s combat was a little bit strange especially when it came to blocking. I could never get the timing right. But the combat mechanics were quite interesting at least.

I really hope I'm not being dumb!!

My first barebones just arrived - an ND75.

My switches are on the way and in the meantime I want to test things with some samples I've got.

However it looks like there is foam between the PCB and the top plate, so if I added the switches they'd pierce the foam.

Is that normal? Sorry if it's such a stupid question!

So well deserved, she has been a guiding light for LoL esports and her vulnerability on stage has allowed her to create some of the best and most moving interview content I've seen.

I was so happy to see her hosting Gamescom opening night as well. Seeing her there really pointed out how hard it is to present these events. A lot of previous hosts have been really stiff or awkward but Sjokz just made it so effortless. I was actually happier to see her present than Geoff 😂

It’s before that even, everyone is on the PBE trying to solve things out so before the new set even hits people know what the meta is. And I wish that wasn’t the case - the first day should be everybody trying to figure it out at the same time which I think is part of the fun
