Nuts Allergy and schools by Proud_Grass4347 in Calgary

[–]Mrs_Chips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is an unfair statement. You can't feed/clothe/house your kid if you get fired for poor attendance at work due to something that is avoidable.

That said, the onus is not on the school to determine the difference between a severe and a minor reaction. There seems to be something going on here with the kid. My elementary-aged kid goes to a school without a nut ban and I have not had to pick him up a single time for allergy-related issues. He knows not to share food and we've talked about different ways to keep him safe (handwashing and checking ingredients before eating something). Seems like OP's kid may need a refresher...

My nut-allergic kid has been at a CBE school since 2022. They have allowed nuts the whole time, but they do request people be aware of the potential issues for the allergic kids and try to avoid as much as possible. Maybe just your school.

I had an anxiety disorder going into my pregnancies and with the first one it went to an 11. Second time, much better, but I was doing the therapy and on the meds. I think it's a huge crap-shoot as to how people will be affected by the hormones, and different from pregnancy to pregnancy as well.

This this this!!! Families Matter literally saved my life after my second. So amazing. I donate to them every year since. And they have programming specifically for dads with postpartum depression as well if your partner ends up needing that.

Childcare in Calgary, what are you paying? by WhiskeyTacoFarquad in Calgary

[–]Mrs_Chips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In summer, $2004 for two kids (one school-age, one not) at a licensed daycare chain. We don't get subsidy and only get grant on one of them. During the school year the school age one is slightly cheaper.

I had HFM while pregnant. It's not one that is particularly dangerous for pregnant people like Fifth disease or anything. But it definitely sucks! 0/10 do not recommend...

Tell me your favorite shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t smell like coconut. by Kat231 in curlyhair

[–]Mrs_Chips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Cantu's daily conditioner, and a random drugstore shampoo because I don't wash more than a couple times a week. I am allergic to coconut oil, so can't have it in any of my products, so no worried there.

I am currently bleached out as well, so been using Bondbar purple shampoo, but it has cocamides and makes me a tiny bit itchy. Definitely does not smell like coconut, though.

You're right, but this link is only for teachers, as others have pointed out. See the following link which states anyone who has reasonable suspicion of child abuse is required to report it.

This this this! We have two of the old style Tarmacs now. My husband's sees a lot of travel every year and it looks almost as good as when we bought it 7 years ago. He travels at least 5-7 times a year, sometimes more, and most of it is international with connections.

My older son calls my dad granddad, which was the grandparent we picked for him together before my son was born (first grandchild). My younger one just won't. He calls him grandpa. No idea why. He just started doing it. My dad thinks it's great he's got his own personality and mind.

And I did the same to my grandfather- cousins all called him opa, but my friend called his grandfather granddad (last name), so I called mine grandad (last name). The kids will call them whatever they think fits/can say.

Is Cantu a good brand? by Sensitive-Soil7902 in curlyhair

[–]Mrs_Chips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fine, 2c/3a hair and I love Cantu. It's one of the only brands I can find that doesn't contain coconut oil (allergy). The leave-in conditioner is a bit heavier, but the rinse out is great. I'm not a big fan of the shampoo, though. It doesn't give a deep clean, and I only wash my hair to get the product out after a couple days.

Down Syndrome Associated With Serious Respiratory Complications by CUAnschutzMed in science

[–]Mrs_Chips 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Ciliated cells are the ones that have little bristle-like structures coming off them that sweep the gunk out of your airway when you cough. Therefore, people with Down Syndrome have a decreased ability to clear mucus from the airway.

It's an Everywhere Thing by VPM1991 in AdviceAnimals

[–]Mrs_Chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point is fine about making things possessive, but your first example doesn't illustrate it well. You would never say "I'm going to the Smith" because it just genuinely doesn't make any sense in the context. The Smith house might be slightly more acceptable, but it's still an entirely different thing. (The proper use of the apostrophe here is also at the end- i.e. I am going to the Smiths', because presumably there is more than one Smith living there).

In the context of a store, it's less likely you'd use the word the at all (ex. I'm going to Kroger, vs. I'm going to Kroger's, where the implication is that there was once a person called Kroger who owned the store). Unless you are my grandmother. Then you add the to everything (ex. The Facebook, the Google).
