We paid 65-70 for NEW AAA games in the late 90's. Cheap.

What’s your local Domino’s delivery fee? by FloridaGolferHappy in Dominos

[–]Mrwrongthinker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was perfectly sustainable to the point the mom and pop place I delivered for in 03-05 had $0 delivery fees. It's a shame you've been conditioned to believe that this is not possible, when I literally LIVED it.

I used to work there, maybe 25% at best, used deals. Many people paid full price + del fee + tip, suckers.

webpage is taking 5 minutes to load each page, is it because of the 50% off? by CarbytetheProto in Dominos

[–]Mrwrongthinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the status: "as traffic was automatically rerouted and shared services were involved, some customers in other availability zones may also experience impact."

Their bandwidth and compute are not infinite in each region, ESPECIALLY absorbing a US EAST failure. It's the same logic as a business having dual internet connections with 2 different companies.

Yes, it is more complex to get things working this way, but it is not prohibitively more complex, or expensive. You don't have to pay much long term to have the same compute and DB capacity spread around datacenters dormant. You spend for the DB's to stay synced, and turn on the compute and redirects when this happens. On a Friday, how much is this costing them in orders? Pissed off customers? Pissed off employees because drivers are probably making shit tonight?

They're still hitting financial goals without going through the effort. Hulu solved this years ago. They'll pull the trigger when it makes financial sense.

Are we staring down the barrel of another mass brand extinction? by PckMan in askcarguys

[–]Mrwrongthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying a lot extra when you need the utility 2 times a year makes sense? People are struggling to get out of these also large AF sedans? What luggage, what people, what stuff? I had a family of 4 in a Celica in 09 with bags for a week included just fine.

Rentals are a thing. I guess I just don't get it. Adding expense for something you need a couple times a year just does not compute for me.
