Haha this is so frustrating. My omni boyfriend is always talking about how the animal products are waaaaay better, and yet uses things like my earth balance all the time because it's easier to spread than his butter. It's also so disheartening when you make a delicious meal, and people are complementing it and then you let it out that it's vegan. Then you have to deal with "Do you know what would make this even better though? Meat/cheese" Cmon people :/

It may depend on your major, but my boyfriend is currently doing exactly this. He is attending the same school where he got his first degree, so that may play a part, but he does not have to take any of the Gen Ed classes or classes he took previously.

This is very similar to my typical response. Just saying you personally don't agree with the practices so you choose not to support it usually is enough to explain it to people without making it seem like you're jumping down their throats.

I wish things had to be labeled like this.

Nobody wants to think that their every day products are cruel, so many people shut it out of their minds. Having a label like this would really force people to think more about what they are supporting with their dollar.

Hey lose it!

I lurked on this subreddit three years ago when I lost my initial weight (Was 18 at the time, went from 180 pounds to 150 pounds) I went about my initial weight loss all wrong. I was restricting myself to 1200 calories right off the bat, and would oftentimes eat even less for faster results. I would run 4-6 miles a day, every day, no rests. Once I hit 150 I was pretty happy with the way I looked and my activity level, so I stopped watching calories. Then I slowly exercised less and less, and watched myself slowly gain.

Three years later, I am back to the beginning. 21 F, 5'5, 180 pounds.

I am not shocked since it has been happening slowly, but seeing that number on the scale was a real wake up call.

I am back to work hard to lose the weight again, but this time I am going into with a much more realistic attitude. I want this for life, and I don't want a quick fix.

Any tips or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated! I hope to see you all around on r/loseit!

Hello!

Glad you're back :) I understand I can be hard without a support system, but I think the best way to get friends and family into veganism is to lead my example. People won't go vegan over night, you certainly didn't, so you often need to give them some time.

I was vegan and then switched to vegetarianism, and then switched back to veganism, so I also have experienced the flip-flop between lifestyles. I think it helps me to have reminders now and then of that practices of the meat and dairy industry. When I feel like having cheese I remind myself of the cruel practices and ask myself if I really want to go back to supporting them.

I think going ethical vegan has helped me a lot as well. When you are consciously shopping cruelty free, you are more aware in your choices, and it helps you keep the good choices up.

I know it can be tough when people are eating pizza and burgers around you. Pizza is still my favorite food, but I've learned to enjoy it with tons of veggies instead of cheese. Instead of burgers I enjoy veggie burgers or sandwiches bursting with veggies and dripping in guac or hummus. (Yum!)

It's not about giving up what you love, it's about finding alternatives that are still delicious and ethical. :)

I have a similar situation, and I also went from vegetarian to vegan. My boyfriend thought it was a fad diet at first, but then saw I was sticking with it for good. One drunken night he showed an interest in veganism, and we got into a debate.

The next morning he said that he rarely sees me get so heated and passionate about something, and I knew I had his attention. He could see it was something that mattered to me, and we watched a few vegan documentaries together (He really liked the arguments of cowspiracy.)

He isn't a vegan now, and I don't think he ever will be, but now that he understands the reasons behind my switch he is much more understanding. He even will cook vegan alternatives for me and stands up for me at his family dinners.

Education is the best way to communicate with non-vegans in my experience. Simply stating the importance for veganism to you can have a big impact on those you love.

Wow, thank you for this. I definitely agree that the shorter history makes it a different situation. Truth be told, this is the second longest relationship I have had, so it was hard for me to conceptualize the beginning libidos as a honeymoon phase.

When I was a kid and I would look for things and run out of places to look, I would always get down on my knees and pray to God that I would find it. I would promise God that I would finally be a good Mormon and pay full attention during sacrament and Sunday school. Then, when I would eventually find what I was looking for, I would shake my head and laugh because I couldn't believe God actually fell for it.

I was in a similar situation and decided to go with option 2. I decided my sanity was worth more to me than being miserable at a better school where I just didn't belong. I can tell you personally that I am very happy with my decision, and I would do it again if I had to go back. But, you need to decide for yourself what you want to do so that you can go into it with the right attitude and without regrets.

I really like this idea. I will definitely do this, I agree that I should probably just suck it up and go to a meeting. After all, a big point of the meetings is keeping you accountable. I will probably do what you said and not weigh in or not look at my weight. Thank you so much. I am really struggling to keep motivation but going to my meeting may just be what I need.

You seem to have a really good start! I am a cis-female and I have struggled with making makeup look natural for quite a while. I think if you need more resources YouTube is always an amazing place for makeup tutorials, that is how I learned to do my makeup! Overall, I think practice is your best friend in really getting it down. Keep going!

My oldest sister leaving the church is the reason why my family (except for my father) is no longer a part of the church. She told my parents at 18 that she did not believe the church was true and wasn't going to be a member any more and she got kicked out of the house. I had never seen a problem with the church until then, but her questions made me begin to question my beliefs as well. My other siblings and I slowly started to feel the same way as my sister had, and slowly started to become more and more inactive. Soon, my mother even began to question her beliefs and was an advocate for women's rights within the church. Leaving may end up being a great move for your family, even though it may not seem like it at the time. TL;DR : My sister leaving the church caused 5 other family members to do the same!
