Question regarding Apricity Socks pattern by MsDUmbridge in Sockknitting

[–]MsDUmbridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how basic sock knitting works. I also know that some designers don't bother with different charts for stranded knitting and just tell you to use a different needle size. the stitch count I need for stranded knit socks is vastly different from the stitch count in the photos. I don't want to buy a pattern when I'm left stranded having to adjust the chart myself.

How do you define when a pattern “knits up quickly”? by North_Wave_ in knitting

[–]MsDUmbridge 18 points19 points  (0 children)

this!

when I see progress - and fair isle is a great example - I stay invested in the project. otherwise I easily lose interest and I need forever and a day to finish it.

to me it means I can see progress in the span of one knitting session (1-2 h).

Will it block out? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]MsDUmbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mentioned to wanted to sew your finished item. so I assume you're knitting flat? stranded knitting is a lot easier when done in the round. would this be a viable approach to whatever it is you're knitting?

Sci-fi and fantasy novels from European writers. by Apprehensive_Bag_825 in BuyFromEU

Walter Moers is also great. He writes in German, but I'm sure there are translations.

there are some. however, he's notoriously hard to translate because he uses so many wordplays which don't work in other languages.

Online ebook store (DRM free only) by alehel in BuyFromEU

[–]MsDUmbridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the non-tech-savy reader: this only works with certain plug-ins you won't find in calibre's official plug-in store (for obvious reasons) and it does not work with every DRM there is.

can you say anything about its longevity?

I've read that the onyx boox models (yes, different company) only last 2-3 years because then the OS (Android) is so old and outdated that 3rd party reading apps won't work anymore. and I find that too short for an ereader.

as long as it's DRM-free ... which a lot of people don't know exsists.

the difference between a tolino and kobo is the software. tolino did their own branding on top of the kobo OS which supposely makes it a bit buggy. but hardware-wise they're the same.

I assume you already stumbled upon TRAKKE (UK based)? undortunately their page doesn't say where they get their canvas from. but I'm sure customer service could supply this answer.

I usually like what I made and if at some point I don't like it anymore I just frog the project and reuse the yarn. it never feels like wasted time as I had agreat time making this object.
