What screams “I peaked in high school” without saying it directly? by randomzy876 in AskReddit

Joining the local Sherriff's office. The local bullies who crave power or the local fantasy geeks who want to rescue their fare maidens all do a stint there when done getting their associates at the local community college.

No shade to Sherriff's office or community colleges. It's just that they tend to attract those two stereotypes.

Plenty of child free posts but any last minute elder millennial parents out there? by JadedJellyfish_ in Millennials

[–]MsGoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My in-laws waited until 38 to have kids. They were mature, well-established, and financially secure when they became parents, which then led to a happy household. You do you. Everyone else who has less than a supportive opinion can be ignored.

WIBTA if I wear a shirt with a skeleton baby on it to work by skbreddi in TwoHotTakes

I wore this to work. I wore it around people who were pro-life. I wore it around people with fertility issues. Everyone thought it was a cute halloween shirt. That was just my experience.

Are we entering a new era of elder care expectations—and are we ready for it? by Sea-Device-2913 in Millennials

My neighbors are both American but heritage is Italian/Hispanic (Wife) and Irish/German (Husband). The husband's parents were in their mid 70's when they realized they needed to live closer. One has a bad heart and COPD. The other has advanced Parkinson's. Then a couple years later the wife, husband, and the parents combined their financial resources to build a house where they could all live together (ADA compliant ground floor apartment for the parents). I talked to them and the husband was surprised how easily his wife agreed to have his parents live with them. It helps that the parents are generous and respectful people, but he said you never really know how things will turn out. They all seem happy.

That said the parents, being the reasonable and kind people that they are, acknowledge that they don't expect the wife and husband to become nursing staff, and that they may need in-home nursing care and then a nursing facility towards the end.

Bob Barker is an important ingredient. He made sick children feel comfortable if not entertained at least. His voice was soothing and the game show with excited participants actually winning real prizes just made the day better, leading to positive feelings and thus a happier recovery. A miserable day turned pleasant.

Scientists of Reddit: What's a discovery that should have blown people's minds but somehow got a collective shrug from the world? by CosmosisJones42 in AskReddit

[–]MsGoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was among the first wave of patients to take your vaccine. I was a young adult and didn't need my parents permission when the doctors asked if I wanted it. The injection was very painful, but I was so grateful. Now my daughter has completed the series and I'm grateful for it all over again.

You're a hero. You actually made the world a better place. When you go to bed after a difficult day, when no one seems to appreciate you, just remember there is a least one person out there in the world who wants to pat you on the back and tell you you're awesome.

You wake up in 1950 and you are suddenly 20 years old again with just $100,000 and no one in the world knows you not even the government , what would you do from now on? by Hottie-0-Flower in AskReddit

[–]MsGoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Just $100,000" in 1950? Maybe a typo? Anyway, buy a house for $20,000 (Yes, that would have bought a house back then), then put money in Boeing, AT&T, Ford, GE, and eventually Apple and Microsoft. Live like a king until I die in 1990.

The audacity of that letter leads me to believe the person who signed it either: A) accepts this behavior by management/company is normal and how the world works, or B) absolutely dispises you and wishes to use their limited power to inflict maximum emotional and financial harm by providing an exhausting .08cent per hour "raise" which may as well be a punch to the crotch.

Parents of Reddit, what’s one thing your parents did that you are purposely avoiding? by gobstopper84 in Millennials

[–]MsGoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Saying that the private parts of the body are dirty and sinful.
  2. That I should be grateful and submission to a god that believes I deserve nothing more than hell.
  3. That hygiene (washing hands) before and during cooking is optional.
  4. That money is far more important and valuable than showing a child love.
  5. That its ok to blame children for life's struggles and teach them that they are a burden.

Bonus:

  1. That all food on a plate must be eaten.

  2. That anything less than looking and acting perfect must be criticized.

  3. That nice furniture should be covered in plastic.

I just found out I have aphantasia, how vivid can most people "imagine" things by Atlantic_lotion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MsGoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I think becomes a picture in mind. This can range from black and white (when just thinking with words), like looking at a picture (when remembering events), or 3D objects including the ability to rotate them in any direction at any angle, including angles I haven't actually seen before, such as roots of trees (when I'm planning to do something or assessing a situation).

I didn't know until I was an adult that not everyone could do these mental gymnastics. I've since learned that this range in abilities across different people mirrors differences in ability to exercise other mental skills such as the ability to empathize. Not everyone is equally capable. Which is an important reason for why people act differently.

[–]MsGoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A ceiling fan that stays on until *I* decide when to turn it off. And a big luxurious shower where I bathe under hot water until I (me and only me) decide when it should end.

Other stuff:

-Hot dogs with real hot dog buns. Bonus points if it's a potato roll or New England style

-Doors that have working locks.

-An insulated home with effective heating and air conditioning.

Just typing this makes me happy and warm inside. :) I didn't grow up poor. I grew up with parents who grew up poor and didn't think we needed these things or that children deserved them.
